Job Summary:
The “Machine Operator - Team Lead” is responsible for overseeing entire production machine operations. The key responsibility of this role is to be in-charge of the Box Making area, lead the team of Box machine operators and maintain efficiencies while complying with OHS and FS standards.
Responsibilities:
Work directly with the Production Supervisor to ensure an efficient production workflow and production requirements and reworked product consistently match product specifications and customer expectations.
Responsible for set up and operation of packaging machinery, retooling changes in packaging and products.
Perform daily pre-operational and post-operational checks and complete corresponding documentation.
Set up the line; ensure the line is adequately supplied with the correct product and labels as indicated by the production board; regularly review to ensure any changes are captured and communicated to workers on the line.
Calibrate the HMI; adjust the programing to meet the needs of different packaging and products.
Monitor and control the machine performance and settings; trouble shoot error codes; report to engineer issues and concerns.
Direct workers tasks: instruct in the correct grading, sorting and packing requirements to ensure company standards are consistently met with the focus of maximizing quality and productivity; support and provide guidance when necessary.
Communicate and address variances, quality issues and concerns with Production Supervisor; help identify the causes and implement sustainable corrective action.
Monitor the working environment to ensure compliance of company and statutory hygiene, good manufacturing practices, food safety, health and safety policies and procedures.
Assist in providing training to trainee machine operators on all lines.
Perform daily routine cleaning on the machines in use, complete proper paperwork.
Perform weekly documented PM (preventive maintenance on the machines.) Use SOPs to perform the PM's.
Escalate any issues or defect with the machine through our workorder system. (Limble.)

Qualifications:
Secondary school diploma or equivalent required; post-secondary education, preferred.
Minimum one (1) year of experience as a machine operator; produce industry, preferred.

Strong English skills required; understand, read, write and speak; additional languages are an asset.

Primary Responsibilities:
Assemble aluminum skins using mechanical fasteners using impact and hand tools
Install refrigerator type doors and hardware on the enclosures
Using overhead cranes, attach CAT gensets on UL 142 above ground tanks
Using overhead cranes, attach assembled enclosures over CAT gensets and tanks and add finishing trim
Install exhaust systems to finished enclosures with impact and torque wrenches.

PURPOSE:
Ensure properly planned production, operation, machine settings, machine set up, organization of materials and documentation; according to quality and hygiene requirements, safety regulations, and customer specifications.
ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
Machine Operation
Set up machine and change machine settings for new work orders/lot changes; based upon the parameter checklist
Prepare customer orders for manufacturing, and understand the requirements of each. This includes checking the current order and the order sequence to ensure timely production of customer orders
Start up the production line

Serve as a backup for the Machine Operator Assistant
Monitor production process to maintain optimal performance and quality
Handover information regarding the current shift, to the oncoming shift. This should include information about the previous shift, current production order, lot changes planned for the next shift, malfunctions and measures taken to troubleshoot and repair
Document data pertaining to quality and production requirements; to facilitate an efficient process
Perform all duties according to safety, hygiene, and quality standards; outlined by company policy and customer specifications
Maintain a clean and tidy workplace
Maintenance
Regularly perform maintenance activities and cleaning activities on production equipment; including the floor, control panel, and finger guard at calendar unit
Maintain the following production equipment: Check photoelectric sensor for defects and pollution; check air tubes; check the drive belts for wear, tear, etc; check conveyor belts and deflecting rollers; check the bearings for heating, abrasion, and noise generation; take note of problematic areas and determine the solution
Remove parts of fiber web that are stuck in the carding unit
Identify, substantiate, record, and report any malfunction
Once a malfunction has been repaired, test to ensure that machine function has been fully restored
Maintenance of knives and winding rods
Change calendar and machine settings, when using a different calendar
Identify, substantiate, remedy, and report all malfunctions
Retract material and/or fibers if there is a disruption
Maintain clean and tidy workplace to prepare for the production of upcoming orders
Maintain safe production work area during maintenance activities
Quality
Manual inspections of finished roll goods (dimensions, winding, etc.)

Set metal detectors and other inspection systems and the production line
Manual inspection of labeling to ensure that the correct data is on each label and the correct label is used
Perform test runs of new material
Manual inspection of packaging material on finished roll goods
Monitor and evaluate initial production runs of new materials
Working with test equipment (ie equipment for testing tensile strength)
Entering information on all tasks into MES/ERP systems
Ensure that any out of specification findings are properly documented and given to the QA Specialist
Ensure that the required number of samples are received each shift for testing
Communicate with Quality Assurance Specialist regarding all testing processes, issues, and results

This position is accountable to operate manufacturing equipment and/or perform manual laborer work and/or quality inspections with a strong emphasis on safety and quality in the production and production support areas to produce high-performance, high-quality tires.
General Job Requirements/Experience/Background:
Safely and efficiently operate manufacturing equipment or provide operators with raw materials and services to produce quality products in support of business goals and objectives
Monitor high tech equipment making adjustments as appropriate to ensure quality product and efficient operation
Troubleshoot issues and make appropriate adjustments and repairs working with maintenance as necessary
Ensure equipment and work areas are clean and follow 5S standards
Ensure product quality; quickly identify non-compliance performance and take appropriate measures to correct
Record and document data in support of monitoring key performance indicators (KPIs)
Work cooperatively with others in the best interests of achieving business goals and objectives; demonstrate effective verbal and written communication skills
Must be able to multi-task in a fast-paced environment; exercise discretion with or without regular supervision; demonstrate self-motivation and willingness to be successful
Demonstrated ability to report to work on a regular and consistent basis; work safely; and follow company policies and procedures, including wearing proper PPE
Must be able and willing to walk or stand for prolong periods; stooping, bending, and manual lifting as necessary
Mechanical aptitude with ability to solve problems; manufacturing experience preferred; tire manufacturing experience desired
Perform other duties and tasks as may be assigned or expected
Production Work Schedule: 12-hour shift (7 to 7); rotating from day shift to night shift every 28 days
Quality Work Schedule: 8-hour shift, rotating weekly: 7 am - 3 pm; 3 pm - 11 pm; 11 pm - 7 am
