Provide solutions to reduce defects and maintain production schedules. Document all painting processes, materials, and quality control procedures. Maintain records of paint batch approvals, test results, and any changes to standard operating procedures (SOPs). Provide training to production staff on proper painting techniques, equipment usage, and safety procedures. Encourage continuous learning and knowledge sharing within the team. Develop, and/or support the specification and installation of capital equipment. Provide daily shop floor support in the areas of machine operation, set-up, troubleshooting, safety, process improvements and ergonomics. Actively promote and participate in the continuous improvement program, lean manufacturing, and Six Sigma process. Ability to travel up to 10% including international. ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS: Bachelor's degree in Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Chemical Engineering; or a related technical field or equivalent experience in a similar role. 8-10 years engineering experience in a technical role related to finishing and painting processes in a high volume, fast paced manufacturing environment. Expertise in surface preparation, application techniques, and curing methods for cabinet finishes. Strong knowledge of coating systems, including solvent-based, water-based, and powder coatings. Proficiency in process optimization and quality control methods. Familiarity with painting equipment and technology, including spray booths, HVLP (High Volume Low Pressure) sprayers, and automated painting systems. Job Description Day in the Life Start your day by reviewing incoming requests from JEM associates and prioritizing what needs attention first. You'll join a quick huddle with Operations, then head out on a route that mixes proactive inspections with hands-on fixes across our buildings, utilities, and production support areas. What You'll Tackle Respond promptly to department and individual service requests, exercising sound judgment while representing JEM and the Operations team. Perform routine interior and exterior facility inspections to identify maintenance needs and repairs. Clean machining equipment using appropriate methods and materials (cleaning solvents, cloths, vacuums, and more). Complete light HVAC work along with painting, basic carpentry, and masonry tasks. Inspect production and building equipment regularly to determine maintenance and repair needs. Handle electrical upkeep (e.g., replacing/repairing fixtures) and plumbing repairs (e.g., fixing leaking faucets). Coordinate and monitor contractors (electricians, plumbers, etc.) for routine and emergency work. Install modular office spaces and maintain office furniture to support team growth. Use and care for hand, power, and specialty tools safely and effectively. Track parts/supplies and purchase hardware, tools, and other items within budget via local vendors or the JEM purchasing department. During winter, remove snow and apply salt at facility entrances and exits. Serve as an active member of the Safety Committee; champion safe work practices and deliver updates/training as needed. Drive continuous improvement across facilities maintenance processes. Operate a forklift safely and maintain current certification. Comply with all JEM policies and procedures, including ISO, OSHA, and AWAIR requirements. Manages heat exchanger tube bundle assessment program to make recommendations for bundle testing or replacement timing based on life cycle and potential lost opportunity costs. Manages fixed equipment spare parts and updates to equipment files and asset database. Manages the procurement of in-kind replacements of fixed equipment. Analyzes equipment history and failure data to identify bad actors and threats, supporting data-driven decisions for reliability improvements. Collaborates with Inspection to discuss inspection findings, recommendations, potential projects, and other efforts to mitigate potential damage to equipment and enhance life cycle reliability. Performs engineering evaluations, including Fitness for Service and flange assembly calculations, per applicable industry codes and recognized engineering practices (RAGAGEP). Develops repair procedures for damaged equipment in accordance with RAGAGEP and MPC standards. Conducts focused reliability improvement programs and propose projects that increase reliability and/or decrease operating or lost opportunity costs. Use reliability analysis tools (LCCA, bundle analysis, failure history reviews, etc.) to achieve this. Works with Engineering to ensure reliability, corrosion, and operating damage mechanisms are considered for new project installations and existing affected equipment. This can include but is not limited to drawing reviews and shop inspections.
