Purpose and Scope
The Application Development Professional I supports the key focus area of pursuing new opportunities to enhance our portfolio of products and services by effectively and efficiently overseeing development orders to support profitable and differentiated growth. This position works cross-functionally with Manufacturing, Quality, Supply Chain, and Commercial teams to engineer orders that deliver quality products that meet customer expectations, including facilitating scheduling of development orders to balance development and manufacturing needs.
Repsonsibilities
* Assist in order management of development orders that results in customer satisfaction and drives technical development
* Use project management skills to determine, deliver and report on the milestones that drive development projects to final production including establishing project plans, meeting deadlines, monitoring progress of team members and commitments from the team members involved
* Report on first time quality and delivery metrics for development orders
* Manage timely execution of customer inquiries outside of our current capabilities, including facilitation of cross functional feasibility reviews, setting up development orders, managing these orders and ultimately preparing the summary of processing and product results in order to determine if there is proven successful capability
* Utilize lab analysis and physical metallurgy to support product and process development by managing laboratory work requests
* Use data analytics to assist in product and process development by reviewing manufacturing process data and mechanical property data to assess product and process capability
Techincal / Functional Skills
* Foundational level knowledge of ferrous metallurgy, steel making and processing
* Demonstrated ability to interface with customers, peers and associates
* Ability to facilitate meetings and present results to groups of associates
* Foundational level knowledge of Metallus manufacturing facilities and capabilities
* Requires ability to learn computer skills in Microsoft and Metallus systems and databases
* Foundational level metallurgical knowledge of heat treat, forming processes and microstructures
* Strong communication skills applied toward managing cross functional activities to serve customers
* Ability to multitask and manage numerous orders
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree in Material Science or related engineering field with at least 2 years of experience in Technical Services, Quality, Manufacturing, or Application Development
Preferred Qualifications

Optical Engineer

RESPONSIBILITIES: • Create innovative exterior and interior lighting systems for Automotive, Commercial Vehicles, and Recreational Vehicles using incandescent, HID, and LED light sources. • Ensure that optical designs can be tooled, manufactured, and meet legal and customer requirements within defined tolerances.
• Perform feasibility, and benchmark studies to support quotes, and future marketing.
• Analyze off-tool parts, perform root cause analysis, and assist in certification of lamps.
• Interface pro-actively with Design Engineers, Electrical Engineers, Tooling Engineers, and Customers.
• Define and understand legal market requirements for vehicle lighting including: FMVSS 108, ECE, CCC, and SAE standards.
• Assist in design of manufacturing tools, fixtures and processes that are required to build and service the optical sub-systems.
• Evaluate parts, optical testing related equipment and vendors related to optical development of lamps.
• Review all engineering designs that interact with the optical subsystems of company products.
• Optimize designs to improve beam characteristics and overall optical efficiency.
• Evaluate and characterize secondary optical solutions and customer lighting fixtures using optical instrumentation such as a goniometer, optical comparator, spectrometer etc.
• Generate clear and detailed documentation.
• Work closely with Engineering teams to find solutions to next generation products
• Work with Manufacturing to diagnose complex issues with the company's products.
Qualifications
REQUIREMENTS:
• B.S. in Engineering or Applied Physics.
• 4+ yrs. Illumination Optical Design (non-imaging) experience; LED experience highly preferred.
• Must have LucidShape or similar optical design software experience.
• CATIA V5, or other 3D CAD experience.
• Certification/Knowledge of test equipment like Goniometer and integrating sphere.
• Basic programming experience preferred.
• Excellent communication skills, both oral and written.
• Well versed in Microsoft office applications.
• Team player and self-motivated, and be able to thrive in a start-up environment.
• Balanced judgment to operate within defined procedures and practices to determine appropriate action.

Responsibilities:

Qualifications
Requirements:

Education: PhD, or Masters with a minimum of 2 years, or BS with a minimum of 3 years in Optical Sciences, Optical Engineering, Physics, or a related field
2+ years' experience in optical metrology instruments is required, such as profilometers and interferometers. Experienced in FIZEAU interferometer is a plus
Strong hands-on skills for engineering and handling fragile parts with attention to detail and quality
Strong computer skills with programming and modeling concepts as a plus
Understanding the impact of surface characteristics on the performance of optics
Basic knowledge and experience in precision optics fabrication is a plus
Good communication and interpersonal skills
