About this Site:
Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore is located in Michigan's Upper Peninsula along the south shore of Lake Superior, between the communities of Munising (population approximately 1,800) and Grand Marais (population approximately 400). Travel time to either end of the park is just over an hour. Munising offers basic amenities, including grocery and convenience stores, a medical clinic, and K-12 schools. More extensive shopping options and a regional medical center are available in Marquette, Michigan, located 43 miles west of Munising. Grand Marais is a small community with limited shopping options but provides basic necessities. Government housing may be available in Grand Marais.
The park encompasses 42 miles of Lake Superior shoreline and is known for its colorful sandstone cliffs, expansive beaches, waterfalls and streams, inland lakes, over 100 miles of trails, and the historic Au Sable Light Station, built in 1874. The surrounding area offers abundant public lands and exceptional outdoor recreation opportunities.
Summers at Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore are generally warm and pleasant; however, mosquitoes and biting flies can be especially active during hot, humid days with southerly winds. Interns are encouraged to wear loose-fitting long pants and socks while hiking or working on trails to reduce exposure. Early and late summer temperatures can be significantly cooler than in other parts of the United States, making layered clothing advisable.

This is a paid in-person internship in our Grand Rapids Service Center office. The duration of the internship is mid-May through early August. In This Role:
This position will have a heavy emphasis on IT Network Infrastructure hardware such as firewalls, switching, and routing.
Part of a team that develops and supports two datacenters as well as over 100 school networks.
Will have the opportunity to put network hardware configuration skills to work.
Assist in a large-scale network hardware refresh across 30 school locations.
Opportunity to cross train with our server and voice infrastructure staff.
Exposure to Project Management, Asset Management, and Network Monitoring tools.
Qualifications:
Working towards a degree in computer networking or related field.
Knowledge and experience with Microsoft Excel.
Ability to lift equipment weighing 30lbs or more.
Experience with Cisco network hardware preferred.
Technical knowledge of computer networks and hardware preferred.
Communicates well one-on-one and in small groups, both verbally and in writing.
Achieves results and utilizes resources appropriately. A results-oriented “go-getter and achiever” who can work independently and as a team player.
Maintains a high level of organization and time management.
Adapts to dynamic and rapidly changing environments.
Demonstrates a passion for delivering exceptional service.
Can manage multiple tasks and keep organized.
Comfortable taking direction but also willing to provide feedback on better ways of doing things.
