The R&D Lab Technician supports the Research & Development team by maintaining lab materials, preparing and shipping product samples, and ensuring a clean, organized, and efficient laboratory environment. This role plays a critical part in coordinating with QA, Operations, and R&D leadership to ensure product samples and raw materials are properly managed, tracked, and delivered for testing, evaluation, and customer review.
Key Responsibilities:
Maintain and track raw material inventory in the lab.
Manage the UPS account, coordinate logistics, and prepare product shipments.
Work with QA to organize and maintain finished product samples for R&D inventory and evaluation.
Generate and distribute Excel tracking sheets for samples, raw materials, and yogurt collections.
Gather and prepare product samples as needed in collaboration with QA and Operations.
Stage and prepare sample shipments to customers under the direction of the R&D Manager.
Maintain a clean and orderly lab environment, including sinks, utensils, ice cream machines, lab dryers, cryogenic freezers, and other equipment.
Partner with the sanitation team to ensure proper cleanliness of floors, work areas, and trash removal.
Skills & Qualifications:
Associate's degree in food science, Chemistry, Biology, or related field preferred (or equivalent lab experience).
Previous laboratory or food industry experience is a plus.
Strong organizational and recordkeeping skills.

About the Role:
The Food Scientist supports the Value Engineering team by leading the design, planning, validation, and implementation of cost savings, efficiency improvements, and consolidation projects across the TreeHouse Foods portfolio. Working under limited supervision, this role applies sound scientific methods from bench development through commercialization, ensuring project objectives are met while maintaining product quality, safety, and regulatory compliance.
The Food Scientist is responsible for defining formulation, nutritional, and process parameters, executing lab and plant trials, analyzing data, and developing solutions that achieve business goals. This position partners cross-functionally with Division R&D, QA, Procurement, Finance, Operations, and Business Unit leads to ensure alignment, while also providing technical oversight during internal and external plant trials and start-ups.
In addition to strong technical expertise, the Food Scientist brings effective project management and communication skills to influence outcomes, support customer meetings, and generate pipeline opportunities that drive cost optimization through formulation and processing efficiencies. This role requires an aptitude for technical leadership, proactive problem-solving, and the ability to manage multiple projects across product categories.

Base pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Hourly and salaried non-exempt employees will also be paid overtime pay when working qualifying overtime hours.
