Key Responsibilities
Formulation & Compounding
●Prepare sterile and non-sterile research formulations including capsules, creams, ointments, suspensions, solutions, injectables, and syrups.
● Weigh, measure, and mix ingredients using precise technique and calibrated lab equipment.
● Perform potency calculations and assist with formulation trials or process improvements.
Product Testing & Documentation
●Support stability studies, compatibility assessments, and basic analytical tests (pH, viscosity, density, particle size).
●Document research batches, maintain lab notebooks, label samples, and ensure accurate tracking of materials.
●Assist in updating SOPs, formulation worksheets, and project-related documents.
Laboratory Operations
● Clean, maintain, and calibrate equipment such as capsule machines, mixers, homogenizers, and balances.
● Manage ingredient inventory, monitor supply levels, and request ordering when needed.
● Maintain a safe, organized, and compliant R&D workspace.
● Experience with picnometers and viscometers preferred per hiring manager intake.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
● Work closely with pharmacists, QA, and product development teams on ongoing projects.
● Provide observations during formulation trials and support preparations for pilot-scale batches.
Required Qualifications

Job Functions
Responsible for all Laboratory analysis (hands-on working on the Bench).
Understand and keep current with all Laboratory safety and reporting techniques.
Provide guidance to Laboratory Technicians to maintain proper level of training among Laboratory personnel, which can include supervisory duties.5
Understand and keep current with all Laboratory analysis methods.
Responsible for the operation of Gas Chromatograph and other Laboratory equipment.
Position requires a dependable and reliable individual; whose daily presence adds to the success of the Department.
Perform quality control duties on a daily basis.
External and internal witnessing and participation in audits

Education and Experience
Bachelor's degree in Chemistry or related sciences (Required)

Dow Industrial Solutions (DIS) has an exciting opportunity for a Senior R&D/TS&D Technician supporting Products and Application developments in Lake Jackson, Texas.
DIS is a diverse business that serves 17 market segments with 20 technology platforms. Technology platforms consist of surfactants, amines, polyglycols, solvents, fluids, chelants, and more. The successful candidate will collaborate primarily in the Surfactants segment with an enthusiastic group of R&D and TS&D scientists, technicians, and technologists to evaluate, develop, scale up and commercialize new products across our technology platforms. Responsibilities
Works in a safe manner in accordance with facility and site Environmental Health & Safety policies.
Performs analytical and product characterization testing for one or more projects as directed by project leads. Sets up and runs simple reactions, prepares formulations, and characterizes material (e.g., surfactant properties). Conducts analytical analysis, with GC, GC-MS, and LC, as necessary. Tests materials in market applications.
Prepares for, manages, and independently executes procedures and laboratory work requests, for which activities may include sample or materials preparations, equipment setup/configuration and operation, and proper handling and disposal of waste materials.
Develops experimental plans for review/approval by Lead Scientist, and executes approved plans by performing routine and non-standard tasks or procedures of higher complexity
Acts responsible for calibration, safe operation, and routine maintenance of simple and moderately complex instruments and testing equipment, and troubleshoots and repairs faulty equipment, or initiates repair processes as appropriate.
Accurately and reliably documents data and observations, communicates results clearly to stakeholders, and provides recommendations on next steps.
Participates in technical training to attain on-the-job proficiency
Participates in good housekeeping practices
Maintains inventories of consumable materials, chemicals, and supplies related to activities by anticipating usage rates, order lead times, and ordering/purchasing procedures.
