Responsibilities for Research Fellows will vary according to the needs of each specific department. Each Research Fellow is required to devote an average of 20 hours per week to his/her responsibilities for the number of weeks specified in the contract. This position provides the principal framework in which doctoral students learn, under faculty guidance, to become effective researchers, proposal writers, and teachers. Each Research Fellow will work under the mentorship, direction, and supervision of the professor assigned to him/her.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities
1. To research scientific and/or engineering topics in order to publish peer reviewed journal articles under the mentorship of a principal investigator (Dean, Associate Dean, Department Chair, or Professor), who could be funded internally or externally on a grant or contract.
2. To present scientific and/or engineering research at national and/or international conferences.
3. To assist in and/or teach undergraduate appropriate level courses under the direct supervision of a faculty member.
4. To prepare other articles, reports, and presentations associated with a project and possibly to communicate results to outside sponsors of the research.
5. To be present for all necessary events put on by the School of Engineering and the Graduate School.
6. To attend all orientations and training sessions per the direction of the School of Engineering and the Graduate School.
7. To uphold and follow the Graduate School Honor Code and Graduate Assistantship Handbook.

Essential Functions:
Identify and assess Indigenous material culture, situating objects within appropriate geographic, cultural, and chronological contexts through analysis of materials, forms, styles, and related archival documentation.
Work closely with an external NAGPRA consulting group to develop compliance documents and prepare federally compliant inventories, summaries, and notices.
Foster respectful and ongoing relationships with Tribal Nations through consultation, communication, and collaboration in all stages of NAGPRA-related activities.
Coordinate logistics for consultation visits, including scheduling, documentation, and access to collections.
Develop and maintain accurate documentation of NAGPRA-related research, inventories, and consultation records in accordance with federal and institutional standards.
Assist in developing duty-of-care standards for the collection in consultation with Tribal representatives and the University's NAGPRA consultants.
Collaborate with institutional stakeholders, including the University Collections of Art and History, Special Collections and Archives, the Office of General Counsel, and the Provost's Office, to ensure coordinated and compliant practices.
Contribute to educational initiatives and public programming that raise awareness of NAGPRA, Indigenous heritage, and ethical stewardship.
May support the formation of a NAGPRA review committee and assist in preparing federal grant applications related to NAGPRA repatriation.

Minimum Qualifications:
A bachelor's degree is required. Master's or PhD in Anthropology, Archeology, History, Museum Studies, Sociology or a related field is preferred.
Experience working with archival, museum, archeological, or similar collections, including locating and analyzing historical documents and working with culturally relevant artifacts. Three or more years of such experience is desirable.
Familiarity with NAGPRA processes and federal regulations (43 CFR 10) strongly preferred.
Knowledge of Indigenous material culture, archaeology, and artifact typologies, with the ability to identify and contextualize cultural objects is preferred.
Experience working collaboratively with Tribal Nations and Indigenous communities or experience from which a similar skillset is derived.
Strong organizational, analytical, and writing skills.
Experience or training in archival practices, including organizing paper and digital records. Digitation skills. Working knowledge of Microsoft Office suite
Ability to work effectively across multiple environments, including archives, museum collections, and field settings.

Branch Group is looking for an Intern to join our Summer 2026 Internship program. We are searching for rising college sophomores, juniors, and seniors who are pursuing degrees in Marketing, Communications, or a related field. Our program is designed to provide a structured and supportive learning environment whereby the Intern will develop impactful skills and attributes necessary for a successful career in the marketing and design industry. Our interns will be tasked with the actual responsibilities of the Marketing team but with the training, support, and mentoring necessary to cultivate their development. Our team is forward-thinking, dynamic, creative, fun, and fast-paced.
Duties/Responsibilities
* Collaborate with the marketing team to develop and maintain project timelines, ensuring deadlines are met.
* Assist with a variety of marketing initiatives, including content creation, campaign support, event planning, and brand development efforts
* Assist in creating and scheduling social media content across platforms like Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, and LinkedIn to enhance brand awareness and engagement.
* Conduct market research and competitor analysis to identify opportunities and industry trends.
* May assist in updating the company website, as needed.
* Manage administrative items for marketing team: calendar, supplies, surveys, and shipping.
* Track and report on the performance of campaigns and event participation, providing insights for continuous improvement.
* Help organize and manage company events, including schedule, vendors, and community outreach.
* May assist with the development/updating of a variety of marketing materials, and produce or edit videos and photos.
* Interact with multiple business units and departments with a wide range of assignments from the office to a construction site.
* During the final stages of the program, the intern will prepare a presentation outlining their experience at Branch and work with other interns across the company.

* Portfolio required for consideration.
* Pursuing a degree in Marketing, Communications, or a related field.

* Travel may required. A valid driver's license with a good driving record is mandatory.

* Proficient in WordPress, HTML, CSS, and other related web design languages, javascript and jquery is a plus, but not required.
* Knowledge of and experience with Adobe programs such as InDesign, Photoshop, Premiere, and Illustrator.

The Montague Lab at the Fralin Biomedical Research Institute at VTC is seeking a Research Technician to complete general laboratory operations and collect data for in-vitro and in-vivo research projects. The lab is currently employing advanced quantitative methods to conduct leading-edge research on the role of neurotransmitters (dopamine, serotonin, and norepinephrine) in the human brain to understand human cognitive function and dysfunction. The research technician will be responsible for in-vitro data collection to inform in-vivo models of human neurochemistry. The technician will also be responsible for operating equipment in a clinical setting during study sessions with research participants. The successful candidate should be detail oriented, keeping careful records of interactions with participants in a hospital setting (such as in an operating room or recovery suite during their stay). They should also be flexible and enjoy fast-paced research environment.

A full-time research scientist is sought for the lab of Dr. Jenny Munson at the Fralin Biomedical Research Institute at Virginia Tech. The Munson lab is an interdisciplinary research group of engineers and biologists that study the impact of fluid flow in glioblastoma. Specifically, the project will involve the oversight and creative development of a translational study examining the glioblastoma microenvironment. This translational study will utilize patient tissues in established pre-clinical in vitro model systems and histological tissue analyses to generate data for correlation with patient clinical data. The position's responsibilities will include:
* Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams including biomedical engineering, cancer biology and clinical research partners.
* Design, plan, and execute experiments to investigate cancer-related research questions.

The Lessard Laboratory is seeking an enthusiastic and motivated research associate to work on laboratory studies related to exercise physiology, nutrition, metabolism, and diabetes. The lab is located within the Center for Exercise Medicine Research (CEMR) in the Fralin Biomedical Research Institute (FBRI) in Roanoke Virginia. The successful candidate will work on NIH-funded research projects to determine how exercise training, in combination with dietary and pharmacological therapies, influence health and metabolism. The primary responsibilities of this position will be to manage and supervise various experimental protocols including tissue culture systems, mouse husbandry and physiology, and molecular biology assays. The research associate will also spend significant time and effort on general lab maintenance and organization. The successful candidate should be detail oriented and highly organized with excellent communication skills. Additional duties include data management and analysis, and training/supervising new research staff and students.
