Role Purpose
Ensuring that the Health, Safety and Environment system meets the legal, environmental and physical requirements of employees at approximately 6 operating facilities in a specific geographic area, aiming at the sustainability of the company.
Major Responsibilities and Activities
* Provide leadership and direction to drive continual improvement and the achievement of goals through direct plant support to assigned locations within their Region or Business Unit in the implementation and management of our HS&E Management System, the identification of risk, and the control/prevention of occupational injury, illness, or property loss. Assist their assigned facilities to incorporate changes to the HS&E Management System as they occur.
* Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements through direct assistance with plant and corporate personnel in areas such as environmental permitting, industrial hygiene assessments, ergonomic assessments, risk assessments, problem analysis/troubleshooting, decision-making, and interpretation of applicable legislation. Lead the resolution of non-compliance issues. Complete and drive HS&E-related cost/benefit analysis on workplace projects/improvements. Participate in the establishment of annual strategic goals for their plants.
* Provide knowledge, direction and assistance to the management teams in their assigned plants in the reduction and elimination of waste, the achievement of 100% recycling, reduction of discharges of contaminants to the environment, and in the reduction of energy consumption and costs from its operations.
* Is a coach/mentor to employees charged with responsibility for the management of HS&E within their area of responsibility, including all HSE representatives. Interact with the unions at the local and national level as required. Facilitate quarterly nodal meetings, as necessary. Attend regular BU Meetings to discuss current performance, issues or concerns, action plans to eliminate concerns, goals versus actual, and current projects. Provide monthly HSE performance BU updates.
* Participate as a team member in annual plant internal audits within their region or BU and provide guidance, direction and implementation assistance where required with regard to non-conformances and continual improvement activities.
* Provide direct assistance and support as the HS&E expert on a matrix team and/or committee on plant and corporate projects such as new plant builds/acquisitions, equipment installations, process changes, risk assessments, and TQM strategies.
* Analyze HS&E-related statistical data and assist their facilities in developing action plans to address deficiencies, and present these findings in written reports and presentations to management.
* Participate in the development and implementation of proactive, preventive corporate standards and procedures, the annual review of the Woodbridge HS&E Management System, and the annual Corporate HSE TQM Planning process to support the business objectives of the organization.
* Conduct HS&E Audits of Woodbridge facilities as a Lead Auditor as required. Provide follow-up and track progress towards the resolution of open NCRs for Corporate audits as a Lead Auditor, and/or assist as the plant Regional or BU HSE Manager support person.
* Deliver training to plant employees as required and time and resources permit.
* Provide advice on the management of workers compensation cases.
* Interact with external customers/agencies as required or necessary. These may include: direct customer partnerships, government regulators, consultants, lawyers, and industrial/business associations.
Preferred Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications, Formal Education, Certification or Equivalent
* A degree and/or specialized certification in Occupational HS&E, and at least 10 years of progressive experience in Occupational HS&E in manufacturing. This position requires strong interpersonal and communication skills, the ability to influence and persuade, the ability to work within different and varied cultural environments, all levels of management and unions, demonstrable knowledge of regulations & standards, occupational hygiene, and HS&E principles/management systems, computer literacy, working knowledge of processes, chemistry, theoretical modeling of emissions and ergonomic principles.

Safety manager job in Chatsworth, GA
The Safety Specialist supports a proactive, hands-on workplace safety program across two manufacturing facilities. This role spends most of the time on the production floor, working directly with employees to reinforce safe work practices, identify hazards, and drive continuous improvement. Because Polytech Fibers has a large Spanish-speaking workforce, fluency in English and Spanish is required to ensure effective training, coaching, and communication.
The ideal candidate is knowledgeable, approachable, and firm-able to balance flexibility with strong safety principles. This position plays a key role in safety training, audits, incident response, OSHA compliance, and collaboration with internal teams and external safety consultants.
Key Responsibilities
Maintain a visible daily presence on the production floor at both facilities, coaching employees and reinforcing safety expectations.
Identify unsafe conditions or behaviors and take appropriate corrective action within training and authorization limits.
Support and maintain safety programs, policies, Safety Data Sheets (SDS), and OSHA recordkeeping and reporting.
Prepare and deliver safety trainings, toolbox talks, safety meetings, and new-hire orientation content in English and Spanish.
Conduct regular safety audits, inspections, and hazard assessments; document findings and follow up on corrective actions.
Serve as the primary contact for workplace incidents and accidents, including on-call response, medical coordination, investigations, and reporting.
Monitor safety trends and recommend preventive measures to reduce risk and improve safety performance.
Work collaboratively with Maintenance, Production, HR, Leadership, and safety consultants to support safe operations.
Enforce safety standards consistently while maintaining professionalism, teamwork, and operational awareness.
Requirements
Qualifications & Requirements
1-5 years of workplace safety experience in a manufacturing, industrial, or production environment.
Bilingual in English and Spanish (required).
Working knowledge of OSHA regulations, recordkeeping, hazard identification, and safety programs.
Experience conducting safety audits, incident investigations, and employee training.
Strong communication skills with the ability to influence behavior and gain buy-in at all organizational levels.
Ability to work independently, manage priorities, and support safety efforts across multiple sites.
Basic computer proficiency, including safety systems, incident reporting, and Microsoft Office.
Valid driver's license and ability to travel between two facility locations.
