GENERAL RESPONSIBILITY: The Safety Director is responsible for leading and managing the comprehensive safety program across all companies within MWM Holdings. This role involves ensuring all safety initiatives are staying current and updated as needed to stay ahead of industry trends. The role also involves maintaining employee safety handbooks, training and other compliance records, compliance with federal and local safety regulations, and managing all aspects of insurance claims. The Safety Director works closely with all personnel across the various companies, management, insurance providers, and regulatory bodies to promote a culture of safety, prevent workplace incidents, and respond effectively when incidents occur.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND DUTIES
LEADERSHIP & PROGRAM DEVELOPMENT
· Promote a culture of safety and accountability across all of MWM Holdings.
· Maintain and update the corporate safety programs, policies, and procedures across all of the MWM Holdings companies.
· Maintain and update the Corporate Safety Policy and Employee Safety Handbooks annually for each company under the MWM Holdings umbrella.
· Serve as the key point of contact for all safety-related issues within the MWM Holdings organization.
· Responsible for assessing the need for and building a team of safety personnel to serve the needs of all MWM Holdings
TRAINING & COMMUNICATION
· Assist with planning and implementation of general and site-specific safety training for all employees of MWM Holdings.
· Develop and keep current new hire orientations for the companies under the MWM umbrella. Ensure that the orientations are being performed by someone within the first week of a new employee starting.
· Coordinate quarterly “All Field” safety meetings and annual foreman safety trainings for Midwest Mole & Southern Rail Construction.
· Ensure that all medical tests mandated for all employees by government regulation associated with safety items are completed and all records kept according to mandates.
· Implement and maintain a modern safety training system that allows for increased safety training for a remote employee environment.
SITE SAFETY & INSPECTIONS
· Ensure jobsite safety inspections are being completed.
· Make sure that safety inspections are being done in a proactive manner and often enough where needed to maintain a safe working environment for all employees.
· Conduct biannual inspections of facilities.
· Develop and manage a site-specific safety plan generator with customizable fields for project info.
COMPLIANCE & REGULATORY MANAGEMENT
· Ensure full compliance with OSHA, DOT, FRA and other applicable safety regulations for each company.
· Maintain OSHA 300 logs and safety training records for all companies.
· Develop and manage DOT programs, including driver files, HOS, inspections, maintenance logs, and certifications.
· Develop and manage FRA programs for each company as applicable.
· Oversee drug and alcohol testing programs (DOT, FRA and other non-DOT), including pre-employment screening and random testing.
· Conduct annual MVR checks for all company vehicle drivers.
· Manage “Driver Eligibility” policy and ensure insurance documentation is up to date.
· Knowledge of, or willingness to learn, OSHA Standard 1926.800 (Underground Construction).
INCIDENT & CLAIMS MANAGEMENT
· Ensure that we respond immediately to incidents, accidents, or near-misses and that all reporting is completed accurately and timely.
· Oversee investigations and ensure that we prepare detailed incident reports.
· Work directly with insurance carriers, agents, and attorneys on claims and litigation.
· Manage OSHA recordkeeping and facilitate timely closure of insurance claims.
RECOGNITION & ACCOUNTABILITY
· Oversee safety incentive program and violation tracking system.
· Prepare and present an annual safety summary report to senior management for each company.
· Oversee the tracking and rating of employees' safety performance for annual bonus consideration as applicable for each company.
PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT
· Be an active member in the safety committees of the various trade associations the various companies are a part of.
· Attend applicable safety conferences and meetings.
· Maintain company safety files and records.
· Participate in annual skills training for the various companies as well as spend time observing and learning about the work each company does
· Position MWM Holdings to win awards and receive recognition for our safety program.
QUALIFICATIONS
· Bachelor's degree (B.A.) from a four-year college or university preferred, or a minimum of 10 years of relevant safety management experience.
· Strong knowledge of OSHA, DOT, and general construction safety practices.
· Strong working knowledge of LMS systems and implementation and management of a LMS system
· Strong knowledge working with third party vendors that manage Safety Compliance/ auditing for owners (ISNetworld, etc.)
· Ability to understand government regulation and learn what it takes to be in compliance
· Proven leadership experience in managing multi-site safety operations.
· Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
· Highly organized and capable of managing multiple priorities.
· Comfortable with technology, reporting systems, and document creation tools.
WORK ENVIRONMENT

Environmental Health & Safety Manager
Central Rent-A-Crane is seeking an Environmental Health and Safety (EH&S) Manager with experience in the construction or heavy industry environment. The emphasis will be in the area of commercial construction, petrochemical, steel, wind farm, and heavy industry environments. The successful candidate must be able to work independently on multiple matters in a fast-paced environment. This is a full-time, exempt position with comprehensive benefits package working out of either the Fort Wayne or Fairland office.
Essential Functions
Be familiar with and maintain knowledge of relevant crane and rigging codes, standards, and regulations.
Identifies and ensures compliance with environmental, health and safety standards for employees at branch locations and large heavy-industry work sites.
Follows Corporate policies and procedures to ensure compliance with environmental, health, and safety regulations at Company facilities and work sites.
Conducts regular and random safety inspections of work sites and facilities in order to assess operations, compliance, and to detect existing, or potential accident, fire, or health hazards. Recommends corrective or preventative action(s) and prepares evaluation, i.e. audit, report(s) for Corporate office review.
Reviews injury/accident reports for causal factors and identifies follow up or corrective action(s) to prevent recurrence. Must be able to develop site-specific Job Hazard Analysis (JHA).
Conducts regular safety meetings with management and employees.
Implements established, EHS policies, procedures, and written communications.
Understands DOT compliance and ability to maintain driver files.
Prepares and disseminates information on safety issues on a regular and timely basis.
Responsible for personal, professional development. Maintain professional development through training, seminars, etc. that enhance knowledge of environmental, health, and safety, crane and lifting operations, rigging, forklift, and mobile elevating work platform (MEWP).
Maintains open line of communication with corporate office through regular verbal and written communication.
Job Specifications/Experience/Education
Bachelor's Degree preferred or 2 years of related experience as a Safety Manager in the construction or heavy industry environment, i.e. petrochemical, steel, etc.
Valid drivers license with acceptable motor vehicle record.
Ability to effectively communicate both verbally and in written format, i.e. report writing, training, etc.
Experience in accident investigation.
Computer literate, proficiency in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel, etc.

POSITION SUMMARY:
The Site Safety & Health Officer (SSHO) assists in the planning, management, and support of the functional area of environmental safety and health (ES&H) for assigned project(s). Establish and maintain contact with the Project Manager, Corporate ES&H Manager, and others as required to fulfill health and safety commitments on assigned projects. Anticipate potential safety-related problem areas and evaluate and recommend solutions or corrective actions.
EDUCATION/TRAINING:
College degree in science, engineering, health & safety, or related discipline or demonstrated field experience in applied occupational health and safety, emphasizing industrial hygiene (IH) cross-training.
A current, instructor-signed OSHA 30-hour General Industry Safety Training safety class certification and verification of annual 8-hour competency training and/or self-study (As required by EM 385-1-1 Section 1 Subsection 01.A.17. Valid First Aid and CPR.
KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE:
Minimum of five (5) years of continuous construction industry safety experience supervising general construction, five (5) years of constant general industry safety experience managing safety programs, or five years of experience and a Third-Party, nationally accredited SOH-related certification.
Knowledge of applicable government health and safety regulations and standards, including EM 385-1-1 (November 2014).
Demonstrated experience with event investigations, issues management/action tracking for safety and IH subject areas.
Ability to develop and implement corrective action plans due to identified issues.
Demonstrated industrial hygiene (IH) knowledge and other health and safety requirements.
Demonstrated ability to monitor work activities, evaluate health and safety conditions, and facilitate corrective actions.
Ability to prepare safety-specific documents independently, including project-specific safety plans and Activity/Job Hazard Analysis. Ability to identify and monitor for industrial hygiene issues.
SKILLS & ABILITIES:
Ability to review, evaluate, and develop appropriate health & safety and IH policies and procedures.
Ability to communicate effectively (written and oral) with craft personnel, project management, and client representatives is essential.
Ability to manage injuries and illnesses as well as accident prevention.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
Valid state driver's license.
Ability to pass a pre-employment background check.
Ability to pass pre-employment and random drug screens.
Must be available for standby assignments, work scheduled off-hours, and emergency overtime as required.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS AND DUTIES:
Managed and supported the functional construction and general industry area for field projects.
Establish and maintain contact with the Corporate ES&H Manager, Project Manager, and regulatory agencies, as required, to fulfill health and safety commitments on assigned projects.
Monitor, in an assigned area, daily work practices utilized by employees and/or contractor/subcontractor personnel.
Confer with departmental supervisors on safety and health matters to ensure that work plan procedures comply with customer and governmental requirements.
Recommend to supervision that Notices of Non-Compliance be issued and follow-up to ensure corrective actions, as stipulated and approved by supervision, are implemented.
Conduct accident investigations, OSHA/MSHA compliance audits, project health surveys, and insurance audits. Take photographs and prepare reports as required.
Communicate potential IH issues to the General Manager/ES&H Manager.
Anticipate and provide technical direction to project personnel on potential IH and occupational safety problem areas and evaluate, recommend, and implement solutions or corrective actions.
Research and provide training material, and assist in conducting safety, health, fire orientation, and other OSHA training.
Provide supervision, as required, to craft and/or administrative personnel regarding health and safety.
Enforce a stop work when safety concerns/issues arise.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Must spend the majority of the workday in the field with project personnel.
Ability to sit and/or stand for extended periods.
Ability to walk, reach with hands and arms, talk, and hear.
Ability to perform repetitive movements of the fingers, hands, wrists, and arms.
Ability to participate in physically demanding work while wearing personal protective equipment, including respiratory protection.
Medically qualified to wear a respirator, able to lift 30 lbs., and able to climb ladders.
OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Maintain working-level relationships with other participating entities responsible for ES&H in the Program.

About the Role
The Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) Manager will be responsible for ensuring the safety and health of all employees across all shifts. The EHS Manager will foster a safety-first atmosphere and motivate employees to be safety minded in all activities within the work environment. The EHS Manager will be responsible for developing and maintaining all safety and environmental policies, procedures, and standards to ensure compliance with all Federal and State regulatory agencies (e.g. ISO 14001, ISO 45001).
What You'll Do
Coordinates regular audits of safety practices and procedures across all shifts and provides corrective action recommendations to appropriate managers.
Coaches and trains team leads, supervisors, and managers on safety awareness, safe work methods, and safety & environmental policies and procedures.
Leads the continuous improvement efforts to achieve the Company goal of zero injuries.
Develops/maintains professional working relationships with state, federal, and local individuals/organizations relating to safety, environmental and health issues.
Creates and delivers safety training programs and educates employees on safe working practices, appropriate equipment operation, and emergency procedures.
Conducts tests and inspects working areas, machinery, equipment and working conditions for compliance with occupational safety and health regulations; recommends and follows up to verify the implementation of corrective actions.
Investigates incidents or accidents, gathers and analyzes statistics, and makes recommendations for improvements; prepares and submits accident reports in accordance with applicable regulatory requirements.
Ensures training records, health/safety manuals or handbooks, incident/accident reports, or other documentation are appropriately maintained.
Ensures the availability, readiness and proper use of required accident prevention procedures, safety and fire prevention equipment, protective clothing and devices, and first aid supplies.
Monitors known health, safety, or environmental hazards, such as noise, air, or wastewater pollution levels.
Maintains records on safety inspections, and inventory of safety and fire equipment and devices.
Develops and communicates facility-specific emergency response or evacuation plans.
Leads the safety committee and conducts safety committee meetings monthly.
Participates in all internal and external audits as required for ISO certifications and global requirements.
Maintains awareness of individual contribution to and impact of the quality, safety, environmental, and product compliance policies and activities; reports all quality issues, unsafe acts, and unsafe conditions to the proper personnel.
Additional Expectations
Remain compliant with the Code of Conduct and Policies which includes the Kingspan Group Compliance Policy.
Ensure that all duties related to product compliance are adhered to in accordance with the Product Compliance Policy, Laws, Regulations, and market demands.
Responsible for all tasks to achieve compliance goals and demands of the Compliance Management System.
Must raise concerns related to the Compliance Management System to their supervisor, manager, or any member of the Leadership Team, or through the confidential whistle blower service.
