JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Lead HSE compliance efforts across marine, heavy civil, land piling, and railroad construction projects. Manage and supervise safety department staff, including reviewing and overseeing job hazard analyses (JHAs), risk assessments, and activity hazard analysis (AHA) preparation. KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES/OUTCOMES Health & Safety Responsibilities * Ensure full compliance with UK health and safety legislation, Approved Codes of Practice, and guidance. * Maintain and update the site Health & Safety Policy. * Conduct and review risk assessments, safe systems of work, and method statements for all bakery operations. * Oversee compliance with COSHH, manual handling, machinery safety (PUWER), and fire safety regulations. * Manage accident and incident investigations, root cause analysis, and corrective actions. * Liaise with the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) and other regulatory bodies during inspections and audits. * Deliver health and safety training, including induction, refresher courses, and toolbox talks. * Lead the site Health & Safety Committee and facilitate associate engagement. * Ensure robust emergency response plans for fire, chemical spills, and major incidents. * Conduct regular site inspections and audits to verify compliance and identify improvement opportunities. * Handle routine drug and alcohol testing Environmental Responsibilities * Develop and implement an Environmental Management System aligned with ISO 14001 principles. * Monitor and report on energy usage, waste management, water consumption, and emissions. * Ensure compliance with environmental permits and waste disposal regulations. * Manage segregation and disposal of bakery waste streams, including food waste, packaging, and hazardous substances. * Drive sustainability initiatives to reduce carbon footprint and improve resource efficiency. * Maintain accurate records for environmental metrics and prepare reports for regulatory compliance. * Coordinate environmental audits and liaise with external agencies as required. * Develop emergency response plans for environmental incidents such as chemical spills or pollution events. * Provide environmental awareness training to staff and contractors. * Ensure compliance with Waste (England and Wales) Regulations and Environmental Protection Act requirements. * Reporting on sustainability metrics * Takes leadership of sustainability targets and initiatives Security Responsibilities * Control the facility risk treatment plan and annual audits as well as reporting to WHQ * Responsible for key control system * Responsible for CCTV system and continuous improvement thereof * Responsible for the development of risk mitigation strategies to ensure security of all associates on site, protection of assets and robust disaster management plans. * Responsible for robust access control on site * Liaises with local authorities, business park body corporate and crime monitoring services to remain fully informed of risk developments. KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/EXPERIENCE Essential: * NEBOSH Diploma or equivalent qualification. * Proven experience in Health & Safety management within food manufacturing or similar high-risk environments. * Strong knowledge of UK H&S and environmental legislation. * Excellent communication and influencing skills. * Ability to lead cultural change and engage teams at all levels. * Proven experience in implementing and maintaining ISO 14001 Environmental Management Systems. * Ability to conduct environmental risk assessments and develop mitigation strategies. * Strong knowledge of UK environmental legislation, permits, and compliance requirements. * Experience in managing waste streams, including hazardous and food waste, in line with UK regulations. * Capability to lead sustainability initiatives focused on energy efficiency, water conservation, and carbon reduction. * Competence in preparing environmental performance reports and liaising with regulatory bodies. * Understanding of pollution prevention measures and emergency response planning for environmental incidents. Desirable: * Degree in Occupational Health & Safety or Environmental Management. * IOSH Chartered Membership. * Experience with ISO 14001 and sustainability initiatives. What You'll Do Under the direction of the Training & Safety Manager, the Workforce Safety & Training Coordinator supports the coordination and delivery of employee training and workplace safety initiatives. This role ensures effective training logistics, maintains accurate records, facilitates new hire orientation, and promotes a safety-conscious culture through compliance tracking, safety event support, and safety training facilitation. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Training & Development Maintain training records, schedules, and rosters; update the training calendar and reserve training spaces. Prepare and distribute communications such as notices and invitations for scheduled classes. Extract training data and compile reports to track employee development. Maintain training materials inventory and ensure timely ordering. Facilitate New Hire Orientation and maintain required onboarding documentation. Assist in setup, teardown, and upkeep of training rooms and equipment. Support the development and delivery of training modules, including soft skills and job-specific skills. Act as a liaison to other departments to coordinate training and employee development events. Workplace Safety Schedule and track safety training, certifications (e.g., forklift, PPE use, hazard communication), and safety re-certifications. Maintain accurate and up-to-date safety training records and compliance logs (e.g., OSHA-required logs). Assist in conducting safety observations and walk-throughs with the safety team. Support safety communication campaigns (e.g., posters, toolbox talks, monthly safety themes). Help coordinate incident response logistics (e.g., documentation support, follow-up training). Collaborate with operations to ensure that all field, facility, and warehouse employees are trained on safe practices. Leads and coordinates Safety Talks, to promote a safety mindset (e.g., Reviews, updates, and trains workforce) What You Need to Succeed ✔ Experience in safety coordination, training support, HR, or similar roles (manufacturing/food production preferred). ✔ Strong communication and presentation skills. ✔ Ability to manage schedules, records, and data with accuracy and attention to detail. ✔ Proficient in Microsoft Office and basic data-entry/reporting systems. ✔ Strong organizational and problem-solving abilities. ✔ Comfortable presenting training to small and large groups. ✔ Ability to work in cold, wet, loud environments (36-38°F). ✔ Flexibility to work weekends and overtime when needed. ✔ Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred.
