    General Description This position is responsible for transporting students in buses on scheduled trips. This includes transporting students from home to school and return home, to and from providers, and any field trips that are scheduled. The driver is to utilize extreme caution in the loading and unloading of passengers, driving safely and maintaining good behavior by the students on the bus. As the driver he/she is responsible for the care and maintenance of the vehicle. This position is responsible for the conduct of the Bus Aide assigned to the bus and should demonstrate courtesy, respect and a positive attitude when relating to children, parents and service providers in the course of his/her duties. This position will also perform ground maintenance and landscaping functions at the campus to maintain its appearance. Examples of Work Performed Drives the students in a safe and prudent manner whenever the schedule directs. Maintains good behavior and order on the school bus, sees that passengers buckle up while driving. Maintains various records concerning trips made, situations that occur, parent consents, mileage, maintenance log, and the general care of the vehicle. Maintains a regular schedule to ensure students arrive at school and/or to arrive at appointments in a timely and coordinately fashion. Maintains and services the use of two-way radio and use professional language. Is accountable for all reports submitted on a daily/weekly basis required for the job. Adheres to and maintains the obligations as described in the Confidentiality Policies of the agency. Monitors assigned facility for physical discrepancies. Makes necessary facility repairs as needed or makes necessary arrangements to have proper credentialed persons to work at assigned facility. Maintains the grounds, grass, shrubbery, trees, walkways, steps and retains walls of the assigned facility. Operates mowers, trucks, edgers, trailers, and other hand tools and hand powered equipment while landscaping. Requests materials necessary for all repairs with supervisor's approval. Attends all training deemed necessary to comply with Texas Child Care Regulation Minimum Standards, and Head Start Performance Standards. Performs other duties as assigned by the immediate supervisor or Executive Director. Education and Experience Must have a high school diploma or its equivalent. Must have Texas CDL drivers license with endorsement (P) Passenger and of (A) Air Brakes. Must keep a current Region I Bus Driver Certification. Employee will be randomly tested for use of drugs. Need appropriate or correct vision, requires ability to judge distance and space relationship, uses peripheral vision while eyes are fixed, and requires ability to identify and distinguish colors. Assist Bus Driver during emergencies and evacuation drills and ensure the vehicle is maintained in a sanitary condition. Is responsible for the implementation, monitoring, and compliance of bus rules during transportation of children by providing educational activities as part of school readiness efforts and provide feedback to teaching staff/coordinating staff regarding observed behaviors/development during bus activities. Based on the PFCE Framework, acts as a liaison between parents and center staff regarding center activities, child issues, and upcoming program events.
