Hendrick Motorsports Hendrick Motorsports, a leading NASCAR Motorsports operation, is currently seeking a highly motivated Transportation Driver. Under the general direction of the transportation coordinator, this position has primary responsibility for testing, switchouts, equipment upkeep, and filling in at the racetrack as needed. The candidate should have extensive knowledge of following appropriate safety procedures for transporting equipment and knowledge of related laws and regulations related to operating commercial vehicles. The ideal candidate would have experience in checking to ensure that mechanical, safety and emergency equipment are working properly prior to departure, securing cargo for transport, and reading and interpreting maps to determine appropriate routes. General Description of Work
Performs semiskilled work operating a schoolbus, transporting students to and from school, activities or events, and related work as or assigned. Lead Drivers function as a liaison for Transportation Planners with Drivers and SchoolBus Supervisors. Lead Drivers assist in conveying directions from the Planner and work coordination for other schoolbusdrivers based on directives from the Transportation Department. Assists in student safety training; maintains transportation records; and assists in ensuring buses are in a safe operating condition. Work is performed under the moderate supervision of the Transportation Planner.
Education and Experience
High school diploma or GED preferred and minimal experience of 1 year of North Carolinaschoolbus driving experience as a licensed schoolbusdriver.

Essential Job Functions
Drives any route necessary in the absence of a permanent or substitute driver. Collaborates with Transportation Planner for bus coverage during driver absences.
Monitors AM and PM runs to ensure that each assigned bus is covered; notifying the Transportation Planner if a driver does not show or reports tardy.
Knows the routes of the assigned drivers and ensures that each bus has a copy of the most recent route always.
Trains substitute busdrivers on bus routes and required documents (TD-25, TD-28, count sheets) and conducts re-training as requested.
Inform Transportation Planner of drivers not adhering to the TIMS-approved route and conducts follow-up to ensure route compliance.
Conducts fire extinguishers inspections every other week.
Maintains files of bus routes, seating charts and any other documents concerning students and/or drivers as requested.
Collects and distributes paperwork as directed by the Transportation Planner for the purpose of new route sheets, yearly ridership counts, stop arm violation reports and 20-day count sheets. The TD-28 Bus Maintenance log is to be submitted daily to Bus Garage by 9:30 a.m.
Assists in bus safety training (evacuations) may be asked to assist the Transportation Planner in developing and presenting training, safety meetings and related operational instruction to enhance the assigned drivers' professional development and customer service skills. Should function as mentor to assigned substitute drivers.
Monitors the assigned drivers' pre- and post-trip inspections and bus cleaning.
Reports violations of “no trash cans on the bus”, non-compliance of parking procedures and DPI regulations of chemicals on the bus or the covering of safety markings.
Limited assistance to the mechanics in performing 30-day inspections.
Delivers buses to the Bus Garage for mechanical maintenance.
Other duties as deemed necessary by the Transportation Department.

Must be able to physically drive and evacuate a wide variety of bus types and models.

Physical Requirements
This work requires occasional exertion of up to 10 pounds of force.
Work regularly requires sitting, speaking or hearing, using hands to finger, handle or feel and repetitive motions and occasionally requires standing, walking, stooping, kneeling, crouching or crawling, reaching with hands and arms, pushing or pulling and lifting.
Work has standard vision requirements; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word and conveying detailed or important instructions to others accurately, loudly or quickly; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels.
Work requires visual inspection involving small defects and/or small parts, operating machines, operating motor vehicles or equipment and observing general surroundings and activities.
Work regularly requires working near moving mechanical parts, exposure to outdoor weather conditions and exposure to vibration and occasionally requires exposure to fumes or airborne particles, exposure to toxic or caustic chemicals and exposure to bloodborne pathogens and may be required to wear specialized personal protective equipment.
Work is generally in a moderately noisy location (e.g. business office, light traffic).

Register in the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) Clearinghouse
Must hold a valid Commercial Driver's License with Passenger and SchoolBus endorsement in the State of North Carolina. (1 year driving experience driving a NCSchoolBus).
Physical Standards Test and all legal requirements of the NC DMV and Cabarrus County Schools
Depending on the school/site you must hold or be eligible for a NC Dept. of Health and Human Services - Child Care Criminal Background Check and approval letter.

Some pre-existing conditions are prohibited, and some are allowed. Sometimes a condition may require a CDL physical every 12 months, such as high blood pressure controlled by medication. Drug Testing
You must pass a drug screen. Numerous prescription medications are prohibited or conditionally allowed. Most of the unapproved substances are opiates or mind altering drugs or stimulants. Please consult the Federal list or consult the doctor to ask.
Training & Testing
Schoolbusdrivers must:
Successfully complete the required three-day schoolbusdriver training class
Pass up to four different knowledge tests with a score of 80 percent or better on each test

Restrictions
Under North Carolina law, the N.C. Division of Motor Vehicles does not issue or renew a commercial driver licensing with a "P" or "S" endorsement to anyone required to register under sex offender and public protection registration programs.
Suspensions & Revocations
In addition to the rules that apply to the driving public, commercial driver license holders are required to follow rules specific to commercial motor vehicle drivers and comply with the Commercial Motor Vehicle Safety Act to maintain their commercial driver license and keep their school-busdriver certification.

SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Reports mechanical defect(s) or failure(s) to Administration. In the event the assigned schoolbus is declared unfit for service, performs pre- and post-trip inspections on substitute schoolbus.
Busdrivers are to perform required post-trip inspections, to detect students who may still be on board the schoolbus asleep or incapacitated and to detect any other irregularities or vandalism to the bus interior.
Operates the assigned schoolbus on the route(s) and schedule provided by Community Charter School.
The school administration will communicate any students that are added or deleted from teh bus routes. Administration will communicate with parents and busdrivers any changes to routes, bus stops and/or schedule.
Obeys all traffic laws and schoolbus regulations while operating the schoolbus. Busdrivers will observes all safety regulations and standards for schoolbuses. This includes clearing the schoolbus and evacuating students quickly in the event of an emergency.
The bus monitor will assist the driver in the discipline of students assigned to ride the schoolbus. Together they will establish a discipline plan that is consistent with school disciplinary objectives, as stated by the Admiistration, and which provides a clear, progressive plan of consequences for students who cause disciplinary problems and rewards for those who maintain proper schoolbus safety standards.
Reports undisciplined students to the responsible school administration.
Discharges students only at the authorized school or bus stop locations. Transports only authorized students.
Keeps the schoolbus clean and free of papers, bottles, cans food wrappers and other items which may present a safety problem.
Reports all accidents and remains at the scene of the accident until released by the on-scene transportation supervisor.
Completes personal time sheet and required reports, including reports required in the event of an accident or incident aboard the schoolbus. All bus attendance records turned in on Friday after completing afternoon route.
Remains in charge of all students aboard the bus at the time of an accident, determining the existence and extent of any injuries and maintaining the safety of all passengers.
Secures the assigned bus before leaving the vehicle at the conclusion of a run or route. This includes parking the vehicle properly, making a visual inspection of the bus to check for damage and the possibility of remaining passengers (replace All-Out Flag or turn off child minder alarm), and securing all windows and doors to protect the interior of the vehicle.
Maintains acceptable relationships with parents/guardians of students transported and with school personnel.
Minimum Training and Experience
Graduation from high school and some experience driving large vehicles with some experience in transporting students is preferred; or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required skills, knowledge and abilities.
Special Requirements
Must possess and maintain a valid North Carolina Class A or Class B Commercial Driver's License with schoolbus certification.
Qualification required to perform Job Functions
Must be physically able to operate a schoolbus. Must be able to quickly decelerate the bus and firmly apply the brake in an emergency situation. Must be able to turn the steering wheel of the vehicle rapidly in an emergency situation. Must be able to begin in a seated position with seat belt fastened, parking brake released, and engine running, secure the bus (parking brake set, key removed), rise from the seat, exit through the rearmost emergency exit, and be in position to assist passengers in exiting the bus within 20 seconds. • Attends meetings (e.g. classroom & behind the wheel training, inservice, safety, etc.) for the purpose of receiving and/or conveying information to perform job functions.
• Instructs students for the purpose of enforcing rules/regulations and maintaining safety.
• Monitors students for the purpose of preventing distraction to the driver or injury to themselves or other students/passengers.
• Monitors students with special needs until released to teacher, instructional assistant, parent/guardian etc. for the purpose of ensuring the students' safety.
• Reports observations and/or incidents (e.g. discipline, inappropriate social behavior, etc.) for the purpose of communicating information to appropriate personnel.
• Secures students and/or equipment with restraints, tie downs (e.g. wheelchairs, seat belts, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring the safety and well-being of students.
Other Functions
• Assists other personnel for the purpose of supporting them in the completion of their work activities.
