Experience Required: Sufficient driving experience to demonstrate the ability to become skilled at safely driving large vehicles, transporting large numbers of people, and transporting individuals with special physical needs.
Skills, Knowledge and/or Abilities Required:
Skill in operating large school buses and special needs equipped buses and vans in a safe and lawful manner during varying weather, road, and traffic conditions; and to recognize when conditions are unsafe for bus operation. Abilities to learn and apply the laws, rules and regulations governing the operation of a school bus regarding traffic safety, passenger loading and unloading, and student discipline. Learn specific bus routes, complete scheduled routes in a timely manner, and adjust to periodic changes in schedules and routes. Recognize potential mechanical and safety equipment problems and to explain these problems to mechanics. Write legibly; and to make clear, brief, factual written and oral reports. Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work. Ability to read and follow written direction as relates to performing this job.

Education Required: High School Diploma or equivalent and sufficient education to comprehend and apply motor vehicle operation laws and district student transportation policies and procedures.

Essential Job Responsibilities:
Operates District school buses for the purpose of safely transporting students over scheduled routes, to/from school or other approved designated school activities.
Operates District school buses in accordance with District policies and procedures, and in compliance with all State of Oregon traffic laws and regulations (OAR's and ORS's).

Skills: are required to perform single, technical tasks with a need to occasionally upgrade skills in order to meet changing job conditions. Specific skills required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: completing thorough pre- trip inspections, operating school buses, administering first aid and preparing and maintaining accurate records.
Knowledge: is required to perform and understand written procedures, write routine documents, and read, speak and write the English language sufficiently to converse with the general public, understands highway signs and signals in the English language, respond to official inquiries and make entries on reports and records. Physical Requirements
The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require the following physical demands: occasional lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling; intermittent stooping, kneeling, crouching and/or crawling; and continual manual hand and finger dexterity. Generally the job requires 70% sitting, 15% walking and 15% standing.
Required to demonstrate as stated in "Physical Examinations OAR" including, but not limited to: physical capacities required to operate a bus: continual sitting, leg/foot use required to depress brake pedal to a pressure of at least 90 pounds and depress clutch pedal to a pressure of at least 40 pounds unless operating an automatic transmission, reaching, handling, grasping, fingering. Frequent twisting, pushing and pulling, e.g., up to 30 pounds of force to manually operate bus entrance door and during an emergency situation, a student(s) might have to be assisted requiring carrying or dragging a 125 pound person 30 feet in 30 seconds or less. Occasional standing, walking, crouching, stooping. Intermittent climbing, e.g., a maximum step height of 17.5 inches to enter bus and in an emergency situation, exits from an emergency door opening of 24 x 48 inches and at least 42 inches from the ground in ten seconds or less, balancing, lifting and carrying.
Senses Requirements
Possess a reaction time of ¾ of a second or less from the throttle to the brake control. Continual hearing and not less than 7/15 in at least one (1) ear. Drivers requiring a hearing aid must wear a properly operating aid at all times while operating a bus. Continual vision requiring near acuity and far acuity of no less than 20/40 in each eye either with or without corrective lenses and binocular acuity of at least 20/40 in both eyes with or without corrective lenses. A field of vision of not less than a total of 140 degrees, depth perception and color vision to distinguish red, green and yellow colors. Drivers requiring corrective lenses shall wear properly prescribed lenses at all time while operating a bus.

POSITION DESCRIPTION

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Perform daily pre- and post-trip inspections for the operation of the bus, including all emergency equipment; record inspections on daily logs.
Maintain bus records, keep all mileage records, maintenance records, and gasoline purchases, and submit to Facilities Manager as required.
Bus maintenance will be scheduled and completed in collaboration with the IT/Facilities manager.
Ensure the bus has all required safety equipment on board, useable, and unobstructed.
Keep bus clean, free of debris and any safety hazards at all times. Conduct Emergency Evacuations at minimum three (3) times per year.
Provide School Bus and Pedestrian Safety training to children and parents within the first thirty (30) days of school.
Work with facilities manager to establish and maintain the most economical daily route. Ensure timely communication of any schedule adjustments/changes to parents and preschool director.
Maintain a current student roster including the child's name, address, and estimated time of pick-up/drop-off and name(s) of adults authorized to pick up children from the bus stop, and a map of the route in the bus and in the classroom for substitute drivers and classroom teachers.
Maintain accurate and up-to-date emergency contact information on all children in the program.
Ensure each child is released to the care of an authorized individual on the Permission to Release form.
Observe and report incidents of concern of children on the bus to the Preschool Director.
Report all accidents to the proper authorities per state requirements.
Assist with the required use of seat belts for all passengers, and ensure that all children are placed in appropriate height/weight child safety restraints.

* Child Safety & Supervision: Ride the bus daily, ensuring children are safely picked up, correctly fastened in their seats, and properly released to authorized guardians.
* Positive Environment: Maintain a safe, healthy, and orderly environment on the bus, using developmentally appropriate guidance to create a positive atmosphere.
* Family Connection: Interact with parents in a respectful and confidential manner, building a positive link between home and school.
* Team Collaboration: Work closely with the bus driver to ensure routes run on time and assist with keeping the bus clean and organized.
* Classroom Support: Regularly assist in the classroom, providing support to students and program staff as needed.
* Adherence to Standards: Strictly follow all safety policies, program/agency code of ethics, and program procedures at all times.
Abbreviated Requirements:
* High School Diploma or equivalent.
* Ability to successfully pass applicable background and Oregon Central Background Registry checks prior to employment.
* Completion of appropriate Fit for Duty and TB Testing according to Head Start regulations prior to hire.
* Must complete Program Training within 30 days of hire.
Licenses and Certifications (or acquired within the specified timeframe):
* Current Oregon Registry Step Certificate (or acquired within 90 days of hire).
* Current First Aid/CPR certification (or acquired within 90 days of hire).
* Current Oregon Food Handler Card (or acquired within 30 days of hire).
* All state licensing requirements for program staff (or acquired within 30 days of hire).
What Will Make You Stand Out:

Transportation Driver

Transport residents to and from hospitals and nursing homes. Must be comfortable with the elderly and/or vulnerable population.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Operating the facility's transport bus or van in a safe manner to and from community hospitals
Ensures the bus is clean and available to transport residents and patients daily
Work with Sapphire nursing home admission teams to coordinate resident transportation for the day
Assisting residents on and off the bus and into and out of appointments safely

REQUIREMENTS:
Valid Oregon state driver's license that is unexpired and in good standing.
