BUS DRIVER- FULL SIZED SCHOOL BUS REPORTS TO: Assistant Transportation Director/ Operations Supervisor ACCOUNTABILITY OBJECTIVE: The job of a school bus driver is performed for the purpose of improving student achievement by transporting students safely to and from school, and school-related activities; ensuring the school bus is in safe operating condition, managing student behavior and enforcing rules, regulations, policies and laws to ensure students safety during transport, loading and unloading. School bus drivers are responsible for safely and professionally operating a school bus over an assigned route (in all types of weather conditions including but not limited to heat, cold, rain, hail, sleet, snow, ice and fog). School bus drivers are responsible to abide by all the rules and regulations as provided by school policies and local, state and federal governmental agencies. Drivers must work with students, parents, staff, colleagues and others in a courteous and respectful manner.
PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES: (to be included along with other responsibilities)
1. Pick up and deliver students as per set route and schedule.
2. Obey all traffic laws.
3. Observe all mandatory safety regulations for school buses.
4. Be attentive to traffic and weather conditions while staying on schedule and ensuring the safety of passengers.
5. Transport only authorized students.
6. Pick up and discharge students only at authorized stops.
7. Check bus seats and floor, including under seats, for students after each trip.
8. Notify supervisor(s) immediately in case of mechanical failure or delay in more than five (5) minutes in scheduled deliveries or pickups; complete accurate reports as required.
9. Report all crashes and/or on-board accidents and injuries immediately per protocol and promptly complete accurate reports and forms.
10.Responsible for maintaining a safe environment within the school bus by enforcing rules of conduct and responding to emergencies using a variety of pupil management skills.
11.Report student misconduct according to established procedure.
12.Communicate with students, parents, staff and colleagues in a professional and courteous manner and present as a positive representative of the Worcester Public Schools.
13.Ensure assigned bus is clean and fueled.
14.Use two-way radio per established policies.
15.Perform basic first aid as appropriate, including CPR.
16.Maintain regular attendance.
17.Demonstrate high standards of ethical behavior and confidentiality of information.
18.Attend all scheduled training, in-service and safety meetings as required by the Worcester Public Schools,

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
1. High School Diploma or GED
2. Must be 21 years of age
3. Have a valid Class A or B Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with a passenger (P) Endorsement and a School Bus (S) Endorsement with Air Brake Certification.
4. Have a School Bus Driver Certificate from the Massachusetts Department of Public Utilities.
5. Pass all Criminal History Checks.
6. Pass a Department of Transportation (DOT) physical examination.
7. Pass a Worcester Public Schools pre-employment physical examination, along with a pre-employment drug and alcohol screenings.
8. Pass random drug and alcohol screenings through Worcester Public Schools.
9. Have a clean driving record.
10.Have no previous license suspension(s) for drug or alcohol related offenses.
11.Ability to listen and understand information.

A School Bus Driver provides clean, safe and reliable transportation for students to and from school as well as to and from special events such as field trips and athletic contests. NATURE OF WORK:
Hours of work are 6:30 a.m. to 8:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. M,W,Th, F and 6:30am to 8:30am and 12:30pm to 2:30pm on Tuesdays or early release days
Work involves assisting the bus driver in maintaining order on the bus, and assuring the safety of the children while entering, riding, and departing from the bus.
The bus monitor is subordinate to the bus driver and takes direction from the bus driver.
Training and technical assistance is provided by the Transportation department.
QUALIFICATIONS:
The Bus Monitor should possess a consistent demonstration of effective interpersonal relationship skills, which will enable him/her to interact in a professional manner with children, parents and staff.
Experience working with children
At least a high school diploma required. Additional education or training is preferred.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
Assists children in getting on the bus and to assigned seats.
Ensures all passengers are properly restrained while riding the bus.
Maintains order and behavior of children on the bus so the driver will not be distracted.
Maintains a safe environment for all students while on the bus.
Maintains a positive, calm attitude and a soft voice while on the job.
Assists the children in getting off the bus safely.
Releases children only to persons listed on the Child Release Form, and requires identification from any unknown or new person on the list.
Notifies the receiving school staff of concerns regarding a child's health, behavior, or emotional state.
Learns bus route and makes the substitute driver aware of it when necessary.
Maintains a list on board the bus of all children authorized by the director to ride the bus, and indicates daily the children actually riding the bus and to whom each child is released
Reports all unscheduled absences to the director of transportation.
Checks the bus to assure there are no children remaining on the bus at the end of each route.
SALARY/BENEFITS: $18.75.00 per hour.
