Have a minimum of three years' previous safe driving experience. Have sufficient mechanical aptitude to diagnose minor problems and make appropriate repairs. Have the ability to maintain passenger discipline to ensure their safety and well-being and protect against vandalism. Provide proof of U. S. citizenship or legal resident alien status by completing Federal Form I-9 in compliance with the Immigration Reform and Control Act of 1986. Provide evidence that a criminal record history check has been conducted and clearance has been given by the Department of Education, or, during the initial six month period provide a sworn statement that there have not been any convictions of a crime or a disorderly persons offense in accordance with 18A:6-7.1. Provide information that includes current/former employers within the last twenty (20) years in which the employment involved direct contact with children; a written authorization that consents to current and former employers disclosing certain information; and a written statement as to whether the applicant has any employment history regarding child abuse and/or sexual misconduct in accordance with N.J.S.A.18A:6-7.6. ABOUT THE ROLE The Behavioral Health Driver plays a vital role in ensuring clients arrive safely and on time for their scheduled services. Demonstrate and understand, patient and receptive attitude toward special education students and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with adults and children. Assist with loading and unloading of students; utilize wheelchair lift, as necessary. Assist students in wheelchairs by loading and securing chairs before departure and assuring students are safely fastened into their seats; secure seatbelts, harnesses, tie downs and various adaptive and assistive devices; restrain physically active or aggressive students as needed. Monitor student behavior: provide assistance to meet the special needs of students; maintain order and discipline among students in accordance with District policies and procedures; assure student understanding of proper bus behavior and emergency procedures. Determine appropriate action in potential or real medical emergency situation according to established guidelines; administer first aid to passengers as needed. Communicate with teachers, staff, and parents concerning student needs, issues, and concerns. Clean up after students as needed. Maintain routine records related to student behavior and assigned activities. Perform related duties as assigned. TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: This is a ten (10) month position with salary and contract terms to be negotiated with the Superintendent and the Board of Education. EVALUATION: Performance in this position will be evaluated annually in accordance with provisions of the Board's policy on evaluation of personnel.
