Researchers in the Wissel Lab work on several experiments deployed around the world including in Antarctica, Greenland, and high elevation mountains. Experiments such as the Askaryan Radio Array (ARA) and the future radio component of IceCube-Gen2 at the South Pole and the Radio Neutrino Observatory in Greenland (RNO-G) search for EeV-scale neutrinos with antennas deployed in polar ice. Balloon-borne experiments like the Payload for Ultra-high-Energy Observations (PUEO) search for neutrino interactions in the ice and upgoing tau neutrinos from a high altitude. Researchers in the Wissel lab are also exploring novel concepts like the Beamforming Elevated Array for COsmic Neutrinos which searches for upgoing tau neutrinos from a high-elevation mountain. Previous experience in these experiments or related experiments is advantageous, but not required. The postdoctoral scholar will conduct research on RNO-G, which is under rapid expansion to cover a full 40 km^2. For RNO-G, the Penn State group is responsible for integration, testing, and validation of the data acquisitions systems and contributes to event filtering, both at the hardware and software level. As a part of the RNO-G team, they will contribute to searches for the highest energy neutrinos in the the data as well as instrument calibration and monitoring. The successful candidate may contribute to field deployment, installing and commissioning new stations for the experiment. The grant is in collaboration with Professor Eriks Rozners at Binghamton University. Part of the School of Sciences and Health at Elizabethtown College, the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry consists of six full-time faculty members who value collaboration, diversity of backgrounds and ideas, equity, interdisciplinary thinking, and student-focused teaching. Following a teacher-scholar model, faculty members in the department engage undergraduates in meaningful research and scientific advancement. Position Duties & Responsibilities : Perform standard qualitative and quantitative analysis: • Utilize standard analytical chemistry techniques: wet analytical methods, HPLC, UV, GC, AA, polarimeter, FT-IR, NIR, RAMAN, etc.) to test raw materials in accordance with approved testing procedures, including those from company, the National Formulary (NF), the United States Pharmacopoeia (USP), the European Pharmacopoeia (EP), and the FDA. • Properly document and maintain records of all analysis information of assigned materials on data sheets and laboratory notebooks for permanent file. • Evaluate all data obtained from analysis; if discrepancy or deviation occurs, consult with Supervisor and recommend additional testing if necessary. • Communicate to supervision in a timely manner all non-compliance situations, and assist in investigations. • Assist with troubleshooting analytical methodology and instrumentation malfunctions. • Perform special assignments as directed by supervisor, for example, revise existing analytical testing monographs to comply with compendia changes or other specific needs. • Accurate, complete and timely fulfillment of the job responsibilities will, in part, ensure GMP compliance as outlined in various Bayer and U.S. government rules and regulations.
