The Role : The Software Development Technical Manager role requires a blend of personnel and technical management skills. Primary technical responsibilities include providing technical guidance for design, implementation, and unit test of new software features, estimating implementation schedules and resources, and interfacing with other departments to ensure features are implemented, delivered, and documented properly. Primary personnel responsibilities include mentoring, developing our staff's technical skills, and giving performance reviews. This specific role's focus is to drive major software release adoption through continuous improvement of the core platform's existing technical capabilities, and to provide technical support for existing customer upgrades and new customer go lives. You will have a team of direct reports and will work with other developers and cross functional teams depending on the initiatives and development timelines. The electric delivery system in New York contains approximately 5,600 miles of transmission lines & 621 substations. The electric delivery system in Connecticut contains approximately 130 miles of transmission lines and 28 bulk electric supply substations. Position reports to the Unit Manager Line Projects but will workday-today in a cross functional project team and support project needs as dictated by the RGE (Rochester Gas & Electric) project manager(s). Key Responsibilities Capital project engineering performance including all phases such as scoping and budgeting, conceptual engineering, contract management and design, engineering design, construction, and closeout. Responsible for leading and creating new conceptual designs and overseeing the work of external detailed designers. Proactively identify and perform special projects and studies that innovatively solve unique and complex problems with broad impact to the business. Develop alternate methods or design concepts to resolve unique problems or to improve processes/services, Solve unique and complex engineering problems. Identify innovative solutions, Oversee engineering studies to evaluate equipment and system performance and effectiveness and analyze operational issues in support of system reliability and operational efficiency.
