POPULATION SERVED: Core competencies will be assessed primarily on the following patient population(s) served: Cardiovascular, GI, GU, GYN conditions and diseases including but not limited to: cholecystitis, BPH, oncology, uterine fibroids, fetal ultrasound, etc. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: * Check the physician's requisition for complete information on the procedure requested; refer any questions to the Radiologist before performing the procedure. * Reviews the patient's chart to obtain pertinent clinical history, correlative test results, and laboratory data. * Position the patient for examination, explain the procedure, and give necessary instructions for carrying out the procedure. * Operate ultrasound equipment to its full capability with knowledge of an A-mode, M-mode, B-mode, Doppler, and real time techniques, selecting the proper transducer frequency and diameter for performance of the examination. * Capable of recognizing a diagnostic quality scan as well as artifacts from anatomic/pathologic structures that are visualized on the oscilloscope. * Processes images to the PACS. * Demonstrates Customer Service/Service Plus principles and behaviors appropriately. * Other duties as assigned. Majority of work activity performed in various nursing homes, home cares facilities, prisons and processing sites throughout regions serviced by Diagnostic Laboratories traveling in an automobile to the location. TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Login for self-dispatching or call into the dispatch department to obtain information regarding beginning case load. Arrive at their first case at the start of their assigned shift or have left their house thirty (30) minutes prior. Unload portable sonographic equipment and take into facilities to perform exams ordered by the physician. Must obtain clinically diagnostic, technically competent images. Education Required: Graduate of an accredited school of Diagnostic Sonography Preferred: Associate degree Experience Preferred: 1-3 years Certifications Required: Must be registered with ARDMS or ARRT within 24 months of graduation (12 months of hire). How you'll contribute An Ultrasound Technician who excels in this role provides quality ultrasound studies to include abdominal, OB, vascular, neonatal, pelvis, breast, and testicular small parts for use by the radiologist in the diagnosis of patient illness. Additional responsibilities include: * Performs sonographic examinations and procedures as requested by the referring physician delivery of care and services * Maintains appropriate supplies and a clean and orderly work area. Notifies supervisor of needed items * Maintains equipment to ensure accuracy and longevity * Provides age-appropriate care to all patients * Acts as a physician/staff consultant and educational resource for appropriateness and accuracy of scans * Maintains appropriate files, supplies and equipment.
