Job Title: Ultrasound Technologist
Job Responsibilities:
Perform diagnostic procedures on patients using ultrasound waves to examine tissue and body structure, providing quality images for interpretation
Set up and adjust all equipment and manually maneuver transducers to perform exams
Implement safety standards and perform appropriate quality control procedures
Perform routine and complex studies and assist in a variety of imaging procedures
Recognize significant structures, artifacts, pathology and equipment limitations
Ensure equipment is properly functioning
Report potential problems or equipment malfunction to appropriate personnel
Lock/tag out equipment if appropriate
Ensure prompt submission of high-quality of all images and documents sent to PACS (image quality, correct lead markers and patient data/history)
Assist in maintaining a clean, and orderly department to include procedure rooms, storage areas, dressing rooms, film storage area and any other areas in department
Maintain compliance with regulatory agencies
Job Qualifications:
BLS Provider obtained within 1 Month (30 days) of hire date or job transfer date required
American Heart Association or American Red Cross accepted
Medical Sonographer credentialed from the American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS)
Sonography Tech specializing in Vascular Sonography credentialed from the American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS) or from the Competency & Credentialing Institute (CCI)
General and vascular experience required
Vascular certification required
Education:

Position: Ultrasound Technologist - Part-Time (24 hours/week)
We are seeking a skilled Ultrasound Technologist to join our team on a part-time basis (24 hours per week). This position will split time between our Livonia and Novi locations.
GENERAL SUMMARY
The Ultrasound Technologist responsibilities include using sonographic equipment to record images of patients for diagnostic purposes. Performs sonographic examinations to locate, evaluate and record critical functional, pathological, and anatomical data. Records test results, inspects and maintains equipment, and orders supplies when needed.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTION/COMPETENCIES
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Select and examine images, search for differences between healthy and pathological areas and determine if the scope of the exam should be extended based on preliminary findings.
Present the sonograms and preliminary findings to Physicians.
Complete the appropriate documentation and maintain patients' medical records.
Assist Physicians and healthcare teams during invasive procedures.
Maintain and clean the sonographic equipment.
Perform medical procedures, such as administering oxygen, taking vital signs and giving emergency treatments.
Select and examine images, search for differences between healthy and pathological areas and determine if the scope of the exam should be extended based on preliminary findings.
Present the sonograms and preliminary findings to Physicians.

Insert patient information and personal data into the computer to maintain examination records.
Assess the patient's physical, psychological and educational needs in order to obtain appropriate history prior to each exam.
Explains process to patient, instructs and assists patient in to position for exam.
Monitor images for quality and adjusted as needed.
Record optimal anatomical images that are transferred to the PACS system, disc, strip printout or film to obtain a permanent record.
Provide relevant technical information about the patient and exam to facilitate in the interpretation of the study by the radiologist.
Performs other position related duties as assigned.

CERTIFICATIONS, LICENSURES OR REGISTRY REQUIREMENTS
Registration with one of the two recognized medical diagnostic sonography organizations is preferred: The American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonography or the American Registry of Radiological Technologists.
BLS certification required, ACLS preferred.
Current R.D.M.S. Certification.

Under the direction of a radiologist, performs sonography procedures at a technical level not requiring constant supervision of technical detail. Performs a variety of technical procedures that will require independent judgement to apply prescribed imaging for radiologic diagnosis. Assumes responsibility for designated areas or procedures as required. Can assist the radiologist in interventional procedures. Serves as an ambassador of UTMC in the community, demonstrating our organization's values, services and mission.
Minimum Qualifications:

1. Demonstrates clinical competency in caring of patients as identified in department's Scope of Care.
2. Demonstrates competency in the care of the patient in the following stages of the life cycle: infants, children, adolescents, adults and geriatrics, as well as special population needs.

Required Education/Experience/Licensing:
1. Satisfactory completion of formal sonography program that meets standards of approval by ARDMS.
2. ARDMS-RVT registered or RVS registered.
3. Advanced certification per the IAC Standards and Guidelines for Vascular Testing Accreditation.
4. CPR certification through the American Heart Association.
Required Communication and other skills:
1. Possesses skills in communication; both verbal and written.
2. With medical staff and hospital personnel as well as referring physicians and their offices; stats and critical test results.
3. Uses verbal and written communication to report data concerning patients to appropriate individuals in an accurate, timely and confidential manner.
4. Promptly reports any errors or deviations from operational standards.
5. Identifies self to customers as US Technologist.
6. Direct all incoming telephone and written communication to the appropriate section of Radiology.

The Diagnostic Medical Sonographer is responsible to review the Physician Order and reason for exam and prepare the patient for the exam/procedure. The Sonographer performs a variety of specialized medical ultrasound examinations/procedures to obtain high quality images for diagnostic interpretation and may also assist the physician with US-guided procedures. Sonographers work closely with the Ultrasound leadership and the Radiologists. The Sonographer performs a variety of technical procedures that will require independent judgment, with integrity and initiative.
What the Diagnostic Medical Sonographer will need:
* Completion of an accredited Medical Sonography program
* Registered by the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS) with a minimum of one certification OR Registry-eligible with certification within one year of date of hire
* Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
* Must have in-depth knowledge of cross-sectional anatomy
* Must have the ability to produce and evaluate quality images
* One year as a Diagnostic Medical Sonographer preferred
What the Diagnostic Medical Sonographer will do:
* Explain ultrasound procedures to patients in order to allay apprehensions and elicit cooperation using care, courtesy, tact, and empathy.
* Review patients' charts and results from previous ultrasound examinations or other diagnostic studies, records patients' personal and medical information.
* Perform diagnostic procedures by adjusting, manipulating and controlling a variety of complex ultrasound equipment and accessories.
* Consult with the radiologist and experienced associates to determine the need for additional images for comprehensive interpretation.
* Schedule examinations and perform related clerical duties such as answering telephones and locating prior imaging and reports.
* Assist in the performance of aspiration, biopsy or operating room procedures maintaining sterilization, isolation and infection and infection control techniques to prevent contamination.
* Maintain documentation of infection control procedures and activities. Abide by Infection Control policy relating to Intracavitary probe disinfection, to include all accurate documentation within the department at each location worked.
* Take initiative to improve overall staff education via in-services, article distributions with peers, student's one-on-one training sessions, and assisting with new employee Orientation/Training as assigned.
* Adapt and cooperate with schedule changes and location changes. Rotate shifts, weekends, and holidays as deemed appropriate by management, including assignments to other campuses.
