Effective June 1, 2023: Diagnostic Medical Sonographer Certificate OR Bachelor's Degree in Ultrasound required for all new hires.

Performs diagnostic ultrasound procedures according to industry standards, along with department policies and procedures.
Responsibilities:
* Evaluates the request for diagnostic, vascular and OB/GYN ultrasound services and assesses the patient to determine the appropriate procedure protocol and methods of application.
* Utilize equipment and accessories, employ techniques and procedures, perform services in accordance with an accepted standard of practice to generate ultrasound images and demonstrates expertise in limiting the exposure to the patient.
* Provides patient education in the form of written material and/or verbal explanation prior to, during and subsequent to the procedure in order to reduce the patient's anxiety and enhance his/her comfort zone with respect to tolerance of the procedure.
* The Sonographer acts as an agent through observation and communication to obtain pertinent information for the physician to aid the diagnosis and treatment management of the patient.

* Monitors stock of supplies in imagining rooms to assure their regular availability by timely reordering, rotation of dated items, and by maintenance of a clean and orderly environment.
* Reports incidences of equipment failure, irregularities in equipment performance, and equipment in disrepair to supervisor as soon as possible.
* Performs venous duplex lower extremity ultrasound exams from the common femoral to the peroneal veins bilaterally according to the Vascular Laboratory protocol.
* Creates a preliminary report in Prosolv electronic reporting to be read and signed off the by the reading Vascular Surgeon. After the preliminary report is created, the technologist checks in PowerChart under Rad Studies -> Vascular Imaging to verify that the preliminary report is present in PowerChart as was written in ProSolv.
* Any acute findings are reported to the ordering physician or their designated subordinate and the documentation regarding who was notified and the time is entered in ProSolv.
* Documentation of the patient's visit and the results are created in Data Check.
* Provides imaging services of optimum quality with optimum productivity and customer service.
* Collects data to support the measurement and tracking component of quality management.
* Participates in formal and informal process improvement and problem solving to enhance the quality of service to customers
* Identifies areas for potential improvement and recommends corrective actions.
* Ensures the continuity of care through effective interactions with other departments, i.e., other off-site facilities, emergency department, registration, radiology reading rooms.
Qualifications
Required:
* College based two-year training program with clinical education in an accredited health care setting.
* Technical competency in General Abdominal/Small Parts scanning, Abdominal Doppler, General Gynecological, 1st trimester Obstetrical and Venous Lower Extremity scanning.
* Graduation from an accredited program in Ultrasound.
* Must have ARDMS certification in at least 2 of the following - Abdomen (AB), Obstetrics and Gynecology (OB/GYN), Vascular Technology (VT certification) - upon hire, AND must receive the 3rd certification within 6 months of start date.
* CPR Certification (BLS) through the American Heart Association.

The Ultrasound Technologist performs all ordered Duplex Ultrasound scans and assists the physician or provider in performing procedures for patients suffering from chronic venous insufficiency. The Ultrasound Technologist also participates in quality and safety initiatives, educating and motivating patients, and in practice building and administrative activities.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
Perform patient evaluation and assessment prior to ultrasound examination within scope of practice
Perform ultrasound examination of patients and create a diagram demonstrating venous anatomy, physiology, and pathophysiology to assist the physician in recommending a safe, effective treatment plan
Assist the Physician in educating the patient on the treatment plan and how the treatment plan addresses the patient's specific needs
Assist the Physician or Advanced Practice Provider during Ultrasound Guided Injection treatment sessions with the appropriate directions regarding needle placement and recommendations for volume and strength of solution to be injected
Assist the Physician during endovenous thermal or endovenous adhesive ablation procedures with the appropriate directions regarding catheter placement and withdrawal, and set up for and clean up following ablation procedures
Perform all additional scans indicated by the treatment plan at the direction of the Physician to ensure the efficacy of treatment and safety of the patients
Within the limits of safety, adhere to the standard time allotments for each type of scan in order to maintain the smooth and efficient flow of patients throughout the course of the scheduled day
Working with the operations staff, review and update the ultrasound schedule to ensure safe patient care and to maintain the patient load at an efficient and productive level
Develop and maintain a high level of skills commensurate with the standards set by the National Medical Director through continued education and interaction with other VCA Ultrasound Technologists
Maintain equipment and manage the supply inventory to ensure continued and effective operations
Clean and maintain designated ultrasound and procedure rooms following each procedure or scan and at the end of the day to ensure smooth patient flow throughout the day
Obtain and document patient photos at several intervals throughout the treatment process
When not actively engaged with a scheduled patient, assist other staff members with their duties in the spirit of teamwork in order to maintain an effective and efficient operation
Maintain flexibility with given schedule, and in the nature of team spirit, provide support and coverage for other clinics in need of ultrasound coverage
Build rapport with patients by instilling a high level of confidence in our providers' ability to fully address their medical concerns

Hours: Monday-Friday, (8a-5p)

What you will do:
Arterial imaging
Venous Imaging
Carotid Imaging
Questions regarding exams checked with tech II prior to patient leaving department
Transcranial Imaging
Record preliminary report on all in patients in EPIC.
Positive venous results on in-patients are phoned to nurse, intern or referring physician
All out patient venous preliminaries are phoned to ordering physicians
Assists patients family as needed
Monitors patients pain level during vascular testing ; consults with Vascualr Tech II, inpatient's nurse, or physician if needed
Side rails up following exam
Assists patient with bathroom needs
What you will need:
Education: Graduate from an accredited ultrasound/vascular tech program.
Certification: Will need to take RVT within 2 years of employment.
Experience: Some medical terminology required. Also, should have knowledge of basic ultrasound physics. Good communication skills and knowledge of computers recommended.
