Follows written procedures for sterilization (steam sterilization and Steris machines); knows the responsibilities and the necessity for chemical and biological monitoring.
Participates in meetings, continuing education, in-service programs and educational workshops as required (mandatory and yearly hospital and departmental educational plans).
Attends monthly unit meetings.

Job Description
The ideal candidate will have 1.5+ years of experience and is expected to handle a variety of surgical procedures predominantly in heavy orthopedics, neurosurgery, robotics, spine, general, and gynecological surgeries. The Surgical Tech will be proficient with various equipment and instruments, providing support for an average of 25 cases per day.
Responsibilities
Assist in surgical procedures including, but not limited to, Aortic Aneurysm repair, CABG, Mitral valve replacement, and various robotic surgeries.

The VST will work closely with LIU-CVM faculty and may assist in other programs such as the small animal wellness clinic and other outreach programs overseen by clinical faculty.

* Set up laboratory materials and supplies before class
* Break down the laboratory when class is finished and clean and replace equipment and supplies into their proper storage areas
* Assist with live animal laboratories with duties as instructed by faculty
* Assist with end of the semester OSCE's for student evaluation
* Assist with room set-up and instruction for student independent learning activities in the laboratory
* Assist with the development of teaching models
* Developing and maintaining the equipment and teaching materials for the laboratories

THE OPPORTUNITY AT HAND
The Certified SurgicalTechnician (“CST”) is responsible for helping our O.R. to run smoothly. You will ensure we are prepared with the right instruments and tools at the right time. OUR EXPECTATIONS OF YOU
Daily: set up and prepares the autoclaves for use, ensuring that the core sterilizer and tabletop units are functioning properly and achieving proper run specifications
Inspect O.R. suite daily to ensure that it meets ASC standards for cleanliness
Initial morning scrub shall be for 3 to 5 minutes; routine scrub is required between cases
Gowning and gloving shall be in accordance with acceptable sterile technique
Set up phaco and retina equipment and instruments while patient is being positioned and prepped
Maintains the instrument table, mayo stands, and instruments in proper order and condition during the case
Assist with stocking of supplies, cleaning of equipment, and room “turn over” in a timely fashion and notify appropriate parties of anything that needs to be addressed
Check IOL with Circulating Registered Nurse for proper style, model, and power
Assist the Circulating R.N. in “closing” the O.R. The O.R. should be left neat, clean, and ready for immediate use
You may be asked to assist with direct patient care, from time to time
Responsible for making and sterilizing packs, instrument trays, packaging and wrapping necessary instruments and items necessary for certain procedures, to ensure their sterility
Responsible for end-of-week cleaning and maintenance of all inventory expiration dates
Conduct lens inventory and report results to the Clinical Director or purchasing agent. Assures a complete consignment prior to the next day's surgery
