The Surgical Technologist works cooperatively with the RN Circulator, the surgeon, his or her assistants, and other medical personnel to provide efficient, safe, and comfortable care for the patient. The Surgical Technologist is directly responsible to a RN Operating Room Circulator and the OR Charge Manager. The Surgical Technologist utilizes specialized knowledge to assess, plan, gather equipment, prepare, and maintain the surgical field, re-evaluating and anticipating the needs of the neonatal, pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patient and the operative team as the operation progresses. Care is based on age specific current standards of practice. The surgical technologist must be sensitive to the patient's right to privacy and dignity at all times. Employees providing direct patient care must demonstrate competencies specific to the population served.
High school diploma or general education degree (GED) and specialized formal training from an accredited surgical technologist course or previous experience as a Surgical Tech required.
Surgical Technologist certification preferred
On-the-job orientation from a qualified OR preceptor is required

Teaching Hospital Surgical Technologists act as a scrubbed or sterile member of the surgical team who provide instruments and equipment to the surgeon during operations. NECESSARY SPECIAL QUALIFICATIONS:
Certification or eligibility for certification as a SurgicalTechnician from the National Association of Certified Surgical Technology preferred.
NOTE: Incumbents with less than two (2) years of experience as a surgicaltechnician will be allocated to a Level 18. Incumbents with two (2) or more years of experience as a surgicaltechnician will be allocated to a Level 20.
Performs role of scrub person for assistance with obstetrical procedures.
Prepares, locates, and maintains supplies and equipment for efficient patient care, cesarean section, and other obstetrical procedures. Order supplies as needed.
Assists Registered Nurse with circulation for vaginal delivery. Sets up delivery room and warmer. Transports specimens to appropriate department.
Maintains fetal monitoring equipment and supplies. Troubleshoots faulty equipment and refers problems. Reports status of fetal monitors to charge nurse/nurse manager.
Cleans instruments and equipment used in obstetric procedures. Reports low stock levels. Disposes of waste from deliveries.
Safely transports and transfers patients before and after procedures. Maintains integrity of patient's property.
Assists with patient care as directed. Assists nursing staff with greeting patient and family and directing and escorting them to appropriate area.
Assists patient with gown and placing patient in bed. Timely communicates observations and activities to appropriate party.
Demonstrates effective judgment and ability to understand, react effectively, and treat (if appropriate) unique needs of patient age groups served.
Performs other related duties as required. Utilizes new improvements and/or technology that relate to job assignment.

SIGN ON BONUS ELIGIBILE* Under direction and supervision of the Registered Nurse and Surgical Team members, responsible for the handling of surgical instruments, supplies and equipment necessary during general to moderately complex surgical procedures. EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
* High school diploma or G.E.D. equivalent required.
* Graduate of a Surgical Technology program or six (6) months specialized patient care training in the armed forces required.
* Specific knowledge of surgical procedures within the operating room (OR), in addition to knowledge of surgical procedures, practices and techniques in providing patient care and assisting surgeons in the O.R.
CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSURES REQUIRED:
