Summary:
The Occupational Therapy Assistant provides direct, hands-on therapeutic interventions to support patients in regaining or developing skills necessary for daily living. Working under the supervision of a licensed OT, the Occupational Therapy Assistant implements individualized treatment plans, assists with adaptive techniques and equipment, and educates patients and their families on strategies to enhance functional independence.

Assembles both sterile and non-sterile equipment, as well as checking to ensure it is working properly
May assist with prep for patient procedure
May transport patients to the procedure room
May assist with positioning on the procedure table
Drapes the patient with surgical drapes per procedure to be performed
Passes instruments and other sterile supplies to surgeons and surgeon assistants
Retracts, cut sutures and performs other functions under the supervision of the physician performing the procedure
Participates in the count of sponges, needles, supplies, and instruments, based on type of procedure performed
Helps prepare specimens and assists with the disposition of specimens
Applies dressings
Post-procedure, assists with patient transfer from the procedure bed to the stretcher
Cleans and restocks the procedure room
Pulls supplies and instruments for upcoming procedures
Assists with the maintenance of physician preference cards and inventory management
Assists with the decontamination and cleaning, sterilization and performance of quality testing related to sterilization and high level disinfection
Performs other duties as assigned
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS and ABILITIES:
Must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients in the center
Demonstrates the ability to utilize recognized channels of communication
Demonstrates the ability to maintain good interpersonal relationships with patients, co-workers, and other health team members
PHYSICAL/MENTAL DEMANDS:
Surgical technologists work in clean, well-lighted, well-ventilated environments. Must stand for long periods and remain alert during operations. At times may be exposed to communicable diseases and unpleasant sights, odors, and materials.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/REQUIREMENTS:
Graduation from an accredited surgical technologist program within 18 months of hire
CST certification, or based on state regulations, they may be grandfathered in, without being certified
Prefer 1-2 years clinical experience in an operating room setting. May accept 0-2 years of clinical experience in a related field
Must be certified in Basic Life Support

Job Summary:
This position is to provide surgical assistance and organ preservation for donor grafts. Individuals in this position will be required to assist in all aspects of organ procurement including but not limited to packing supplies, OR set-up utilizing aseptic technique, proper organ packaging per OPTN guidelines, and adherence to all Paragonix/ Transplant Advocate policies and protocols.
Essential Functions:
Responsible for packing supplies for procuring OR and meeting team at pre-determined location.
Be available for recoveries on scheduled call days.
Responsible for adhering to all state, federal and local laws, policies, and regulations.
Responsible for recovery of donor grafts in keeping with the policies, rules, and regulations of all Transplant Advocates and Paragonix clients and their medical and surgical staff.
Participate in hospital and medical staff committees dealing with donor issues as requested by affiliated transplant centers.
Responsible for working on collaboration with Quality and Operations staff to develop best practice protocols.
Responsible for working in collaboration with the rest of the team to train and evaluate new members.
Expert knowledge on usability of all Paragonix devices
Ability to support teams in how to use Paragonix devices when not involved in a service case
First in class customer service and communication with multi-discipline teams
Utilization and training of the Paragonix App or other communication methods
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelors Degree in Health Science or equivalent experience in transplant related field.
Experience in pre-operative and post-operative care of transplant donor and recipient patients for at least 20 heart transplants and 20 lung transplants in a UNOS approved transplant program or cumulative experience of at least 20 thoracic transplants over the last 2 years.
Preferred Qualifications:
Certification as a certified surgical technologist
ABTC certification as a CPT or CPTC
