Responsibilities Works under general supervision in preparing and maintaining the sterile operative area of the patient before, during, and after operation. Places equipment and supplies in OR according to surgeon's preference cards. Assists during surgery in a number of ways such as to don gowns and gloves, adjust surgical equipment, hand surgeon instruments, hold retractors and count sponges, needles, and instruments used during the operation. Keep surgeons preference card information current. Able to clean, decontaminate and sterilize surgical instruments and supplies. Cross trained to function adequately in Central Sterile and receiving and decontamination. Qualifications Work requires proficiency in the application of sterile procedures in an operating room setting. Requires graduation from a surgical technology program accredited by the Committee on Allied Health Education and Accreditation. Work requires immediate response to emergency procedures which requires individual to respond within thirty minutes to the Hospital, as well as have a phone. This is a casual/PRN position. Hours will vary by department needs. Schedule is dictated by the surgery schedule that that requires flexibility to meet the needs of the department and patients. While this position is primarily day shift, call rotation is required. The position reports to the Director of Perioperative Services. Qualifications: Certification by the National Association of Surgical Technician's required 1 year surgical technician experience. Current BLS certification required. Knowledge and practice of correct positioning of patients. Knowledge and practice of safety in transporting of patients. Knowledge and responsibility for correct instrumentation according to size and/or age of patient. Knowledge and responsibility for correct prostheses for each procedure. Assists the team members with gowning, gloving, and draping the patient Participates in the surgical site and patient verification during the timeout procedure. Able to meet the physical demands of the position. Ability to participate in current and future training programs in order to learn new functions necessary for the OR to provide new and improved services.
