Summary:
Surgical Technologists facilitate the safe and effective execution of surgical procedures under the supervision of the surgeon. Essential Work Functions:
Prepares the operating room by arranging instruments, supplies, and equipment to ensure readiness for surgical procedures
Handles specimens with precision and care to maintain diagnostic integrity and follow institutional protocols
Verifies the availability of surgical supplies, checking machines and equipment for proper functioning prior to surgery
Assists with patient transfer to and from surgery as required
Anticipates the needs of the surgical team by passing instruments, sponges, and supplies during procedures
Provides and coordinates patient care with other health team members
Decontaminates and assists in the sterilization of instruments, surfaces, and other supplies and equipment
Ensures instruments, gowns, drapes, surfaces, and other supplies meet infection control standards
Adheres to hospital safety protocols, infection control guidelines, and regulatory standards
Performs other duties as assigned within the scope of practice
Required Essential Skills:

The ability to read, write, and communicate in the English language
Ability to read/comprehend written instructions, follow verbal instructions, and proficiency in PC skills

Mental Requirements - Must be able to cope with frequent contact with the general public and customers while meeting deadlines under pressure. Must be able to work under close supervision occasionally, as well as working without assistance from other personnel. Must be able to contend with irregular activity schedules occasionally and continuous concentration to detail

Job Description
The SurgicalTechnician (Scrub Tech) plays a crucial role in supporting surgical procedures by preparing the operating room, ensuring the proper functioning of equipment, and assisting the surgical team throughout the procedure. The ideal candidate will possess strong communication skills, teamwork abilities, and a commitment to providing excellent patient care.
Key Responsibilities:
Prepare the operating room by assembling surgical instruments, equipment, and necessary supplies.

Maintain a sterile field and ensure compliance with established infection control standards.
Pass instruments and supplies to the surgeon and surgical team during operations.
Monitor the patient's condition and alert the surgical team to any changes during procedures.
Clean and sterilize surgical instruments and equipment according to established protocols.
Assist with post-operative care, including transferring patients to recovery areas and ensuring a smooth transition.
Document surgical procedures and maintain accurate records of all supplies used.

Actively participates in Mass Casualty exercises and events.

Qualifications
Basic Requirements/Certifications:
The CST certification offered by the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA).
Current Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification.

Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and Electronic Medical Records (EMR).
Experience on a military site working as a government subcontractor or prime contractor is preferred.
Education Required:

The Surgical Technologist provides aid in exposure, hemostasis and other intraoperative technical functions that help the surgeon carry out a safe operation with optimal results for the patient. The surgicaltechnician performs these functions during the operation under the direction and supervision of the surgeon and in accordance with center policy and appropriate laws and regulations.
Duties and Responsibilities
Able to work in the operating room under the direction and supervision of the surgeon.
Scrubs, gowns and gloves without assistance.
Can assist members of the Surgical Team with positioning and prepping the patient.
Skillfully applies the principles of asepsis, maintains a sterile field and follows all infection control policies and procedures.

Prepares instruments and supplies to perform procedures according to the surgeon's documented preferred routine. Prepares the operating field for procedures. Performs routine and delegated duties. Detailed and experienced in ENT surgeries and procedures.

Schedule:
M-F Shift varies. Hours of surgical blocks are 8am-6pm.
What you will be doing
Organize equipment, instruments and supplies for cases according to patient needs and physician preference
Anticipate the needs of the physician and have equipment, instrumentation, medical gases and supplies readily available for all procedures
Trouble-shoot equipment problems and ensure all equipment is functioning before use
Keep surgical suites clean, tidy, free of soiled equipment and supplies and properly stocked
Wear appropriate attire in restricted areas
Demonstrate knowledge of sterile processing standards and practices along with safe care and handling of instrumentation
Assist with inventory management
What you know Required
Proof of ID and right to work in the United States
Experience working in an operating room
BLS certified
Desired
Two (2) or more years of hospital operating room experience
