As a swim instructor you are responsible for the safety of each class and teaching swim skills to students using our curriculum. Job Title: Swim Instructor Reports to: Deck Supervisor FLSA Status: Non-Exempt Summary: Instructs students on water safety and proper swim techniques based on thorough knowledge of the Goldfish Swim School curriculum.Duties and Responsibilities:
Provides swim instruction based on the Goldfish Swim School curriculum.
Enforces safety rules and regulations to prevent accidents. Makes rescues and administers first aid when necessary.

Interacts with parents/guardians on the activities and development of students' swim skills.
Acts as a GSS “ambassador” to ensure parental satisfaction.
Uses problem solving and creative thinking skills to identify and resolve challenges that students encounter.
Inspects pool areas before and after each class for possible maintenance, cleanliness or damage issues. Reports issues to management as appropriate.
Maintains and ensures proper storage of all pool equipment. Places and removes lane lines.
Reports accidents and incidents to management. Completes required documentation and paperwork.
Performs Deck Teacher duties as needed.
Performs light cleaning duties such as window washing, deck mopping, trash removal etc. on occasion.
Attend required/mandatory workshops and in-service training outside of regular working hours.

Job Summary
Gulliver Preparatory School is currently seeking part-time Swim Instructors to join our team of professionals. The Swim Instructors will demonstrate competency to teach and lead specific skills and activities in the water. Adherence to the Gulliver Enrichment program teaching curriculum ensures that each student in the program learns water survival skills and then professes to propulsion and stroke development in a fun and gentle environment. In addition, the Swim Instructors are responsible for the prevention of accidents as well as the minimization and elimination of hazardous conditions in and around all aquatics areas.

Qualifications / Experience:
Previous swim instruction or swim coach experience preferred for teaching position, but not required.

Job Responsibilities
Maintain constant surveillance of the pool area using constant scanning techniques to achieve a 10x10 reaction time and dealing with redirection and warnings in a timely manner. Remain alert and attentive to all swimmers while on guard.
Know and review all emergency procedures and responds to emergency situations immediately in accordance with the YMCA of Central Florida policies and procedures.
Know, understand and consistently apply safety rules, policies and guidelines for the pool and aquatic area.
Greet and develop effective relationships with the members, participants and other staff.
Assist in the retention of existing members and engagement of new members by informing them of the Family Center aquatic programs, including lap swimming, swim lessons, swim team and group exercise classes.
Ensure cleanliness of pool decks and aquatic areas. Check the pool for hazardous conditions.
Attend all staff meetings, monthly in-services and trainings as required.
Promote and represent the mission and core values of the YMCA of Central Florida in the Family Center and its programs.

Work Environment & Physical Demands

Must possess the physical ability to pass a lifeguard water test and perform strenuous physical tasks necessary for a professional water rescue.
Must be alert at all times, keeping safety in mind. Must possess acceptable hearing and visual capabilities in order to monitor environment and members' well-being.

WATER SAFETY INSTRUCTOR

An Equal Opportunity Employer Nature of Work This is a part-time position for the Department of Parks and Recreation. Work involves instructing, leading, demonstrating and organizing classes and competitions in water safety, life saving procedures, swimming, and/or other similar programs. Supervision would be received from the Parks Aquatic Coordinator or designee. The exercise of independent judgment is expected within the limits of established guidelines and assigned authority. An employee in this position must have the ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
Essential Functions
An incumbent in this position organizes, leads, demonstrates, and instructs classes in water safety, life saving procedures, swimming, and/or other similar programs at beginning or advanced levels to adults and/or children. Promotes water safety events sponsored by the City of Miami. Assists the Parks Aquatic Coordinator or designee in the scheduling of Learn to Swim and water safety programs. Observes and analyzes students' performance and instructs them in techniques and strategies. Demonstrates proper use of equipment. Explains and enforces required safety rules and regulations. Conducts periodic inspections of equipment and/or facilities for cleanliness and safety. Prepares work orders for necessary repairs or replacements. Maintains accurate records of receipts and expenditures. May prepare or maintain reports. Performs other related work as required.
Minimum Requirements
Applicants must be 16 years of age.
The following valid certificates, and/or wallet card(s) must be possessed at time of application and maintained valid throughout employment: (1) Water Safety Instructor (2) Lifeguard Training (3) CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer, and (4) Standard First Aid issued by the American Red Cross or other nationally recognized certifying agency.
Additionally, some six (6) months experience working with persons with disabilities may be preferred. Must be able to pass the City of Miami's performance test, which may include swimming, running, and simulated rescue exercises.
SPECIAL NOTE:

Job Title: Swim Instructor/Lifeguard Reports to: General Manager FLSA Status: Non-Exempt Summary: Ensures the safety of patrons of the Goldfish Swim School by preventing and responding to emergencies. Wears the required Goldfish Swim School Lifeguard uniform while on duty including PPE and a rescue tube.
Maintains constant surveillance of patrons in the facility; acts immediately and appropriately to secure safety of patrons in the event of an accident or emergency.
Communicate the rules of the facility to patrons fairly and consistently.
Provides emergency care and treatment as required until the arrival of emergency medical services.
Ensures that medical services (EMS or other) are contacted by most appropriate means when necessary to respond to an emergency.
Presents professional appearance and attitude at all times and maintains a high standard of customer service.
Completes accident/incident reports as necessary.
Maintains a clean and safe facility as directed/assigned.
Assists with closing and securing the facility.
Qualifications / Experience:
Previous swim instruction or swim coach experience preferred for teaching position, but not required.
Experience working with children.
Relate well to children, parents, team members, and have great communication skills.
Must have or obtain AED/CPR/First Aid certifications as a condition of employment within 90 days (Courses are provided by facility staff once per month, limited exclusively to Goldfish Swim School staff members!)
Shallow Water Lifeguard certification - Ellis preferred, Red Cross accepted

Moves and lifts heavy equipment, tables, chairs, and other objects to prepare for and clean up after events and programs.
Collects entrance or equipment rental fees and money for food and beverages from customers; makes correct change and issues receipts.
Prevents unauthorized persons from entering the facility.
Checks chemical status of pool several times daily and adds chemicals when needed in absence of the designated Supervisor.
Attends 4 hours of in-service training per month as scheduled by the designated Supervisor.
Assists swim instructors in teaching Red Cross swimming and water safety courses as assigned by the designated Supervisor.

The position includes 40 hours of specialist training in our highly developed British Swim School methodology.

Roles and Responsibilities
Reports directly to the Aquatics Director and/or Business Owner(s)
Instructs swimming lessons in accordance with British Swim School training and standards
Conduct classes in a fun and gentle environment, following current teaching methods, policies and safety and emergency procedures as detailed in the British Swim School teacher training manual and as directed by the Aquatics Director.
Follows all British Swim School policies, rules, regulations and procedures, including emergency and safety procedures. Completes incident and accident reports as necessary.
Work a flexible schedule that may include holidays and weekends as required by business needs and as requested by management.
Work in an environment where noise levels are usually moderate to high and stand in the water for up to 5 consecutive hours.
Qualifications
Must be able to demonstrate swim instructor skills in accordance with British Swim School standards
Must complete all required British Swim School Aquatics specific training and successfully complete the final in water and written exams
Must complete CPR/AED & First Aid training within 90 days of employment
Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community and successful clearance of background check
Compensation: $12.00 - $14.00 per hour

The Swim Coach will assist in the development and recruitment of swimmers participating with the Tampa YMCA Swim Team programs and YMCA Swim Lesson program.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
* Assist the Head Swim Coach with the development and implementation of workouts, trainings and season plans.
* Lead supervised structured practices and/or dry land trainings, ensure attendance is documented.
* Evaluate swimmer ability/performance and plan strategies for their improvement.
* Assist in coordinating and executing swim team competitions and meet registrations.
* Attend specified competitions, training and/or special events as directed by the Head Swim Coach or Director of Competitive & Developmental Swimming.
* Develop and implement recruitment and retention strategies for athletes in the program.
* Follow all safety recommendations and guidelines per Tampa YMCA policies and USA Swimming
* Communicate program information effectively and in a timely manner to supervisors, participants and their families.
* Establishes and maintains a team attitude, and encourages good sportsmanship for athletes and parents.
* Attend all required staff meetings.
Education/ Experience Required:
* Must be at least 18 years of age.
* High School Diploma preferred.
* A Minimum 2+ years of experience coaching swimming or 2+ years in competitive swimming.
* Knowledge of USA regulations and safety requirements.
Certifications/Trainings Required:
* Must obtain within 30 days of employment and maintain current certifications in BLS CPR/AED, First Aid, and Oxygen Administration.
* USA Swimming Coaching Certification required.
