    Education Assistants support Lead Educators in a variety of educational programming that occurs at the museum and off-site at schools and community partner locations. Education Assistants model the power of play by being active program participants, providing constructive support and direction, and enjoying activities as much as the children in attendance do! This part-time position will not exceed 20 hours per week. Education Assistants must be available for flexible scheduling based on programming needs, including evenings and weekends. Most programs occur between 8:00 a.m. - 8:00 p.m., Monday - Sunday. Since 1994 the Children's Discovery Museum has been inspiring a love of learning through the power of play. The Museum is a three-story, 34,000 square foot LEED certified building with numerous hands-on, interactive exhibit galleries. The mission of the Children's Discovery Museum is to nurture the whole-child by encouraging critical thinking, engaging creative expression, and stimulating curiosity through interactive play. Our high-quality exhibits, programs, and partnerships serve children and families in Central Illinois and beyond. * Provide support for scheduled programs or specially requested programs at the Museum and within the community (school programs, camps, homeschool, special events, afterschool, family programs, etc.). * Follow directions of Lead Educator and/or Education Director. * Facilitate activities for pre-established education programs. * Facilitate or assist in set-up, clean-up, and preparation of programs. * Be a present and active participant during education programs. * Assist children with activities as needed yet also help with fostering independence and skill-building. * Directly supervise children in programs and provide direction and reinforcement as needed. * Coordinate schedule with Education Director and communicate changes in availability. * Be a positive and responsible ambassador of the Children's Discovery Museum. * Must have previous experience working with children. * Must have a Valid Driver's License. * Classroom hours in Early Childhood Education, Elementary Education, Special Education, Child Development, or a related field. * Able to take and follow directions from Lead Educators. * Proactive communication skills. * Ability to maintain and be a part of a respectful classroom environment. * Must be comfortable with having a role of responsibility, working independently, and exhibit initiative. * Have a team-oriented attitude and exhibit a collaborative work ethic.
