The UltrasoundTechnologist, under the direction of a physician and general supervision of the supervising technologist, performs ultrasound procedures in Diagnostic areas. Performs a variety of technical procedures that require independent judgment, with ingenuity and initiative, in applying ionizing radiation for radiographic diagnosis for Cherry County Hospital and Clinic.
Duties and Responsibilities- Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:
To produce diagnostic ultrasound images in an acceptable and high quality manner to be interpreted by the physician or radiologist
Consult with physicians and radiologists
Take calls during evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays as scheduled
Adhere to the ALARA principle
Follow all safety requirements and regulations that pertain to service performed by the department
Maintain radiology images
Maintain radiology reports and ensure the reports get to the ordering physician
Responsible for the procurement, storage, and utilization of supplies
Keeps up to date with new procedures, equipment, and methods
Ensures the confidentiality of patients medical, personal, and financial records is maintained
Knowledgeable of and committed to practicing Corporate Compliance policies and procedures
Complies with Cherry County Hospital personnel policies
Performs other duties as assigned
Skills and Abilities Required
Knowledgeable of functions of ultrasound
Ability to set up and operate equipment safely and properly

UltrasoundTechnologists explain procedures to patients, positioning patients and equipment, performing examinations, developing film and maintaining and operating specialized radiologic equipment.

Review patients' charts and Doctors' notes before the examination, and maintaining patients' records during and after procedures

Calibrate the equipment to ensure clear, usable images are taken of the correct area as specified by the Doctor
Log and organize image results, assist with the interpretation of the radiograph results, and consult with Radiologists to determine if other images need to be taken
Ensure the proper sterilization and storage of the equipment, maintain radiographic equipment, and report any equipment failures
Coordinate with the radiology department to schedule and complete radiographic procedures
Maintain up to date knowledge of current ultrasound practices

Summary: The UltrasoundTechnologist performs diagnostic ultrasound examinations and provides high-quality sonographic images and data for interpretation by a physician. In collaboration with the Lab and Radiology Manager, the UltrasoundTechnologist ensures compliance with all federal grants, OSHA, HIPAA and Hunter Health Clinic policies and procedures.
Essential Functions:
Performs a variety of diagnostic ultrasound examinations for patients including OB/GYN, abdominal, and other necessary studies, following established protocols.
Positions patients properly to capture correct areas and corrects positioning, as needed.
Reviews images for technical quality, ensuring that appropriate anatomical, pathological and clinical conditions are accurately captured during the examination.
Maintains accurate patient records and documents any incidental findings that might impact patient safety or patient care, providing that information to the appropriate provider.
Ensures ultrasound equipment remains in working order by reporting concerns or issues.
Assists with maintaining inventory and the ordering of supplies for the department.
Implements and maintains new testing procedures as instructed.
Schedules exams for patients, as needed.
Travels when necessary to meet operational needs.
Performs all other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Associate or bachelors degree from an accredited school of Diagnostic Medical Sonography is preferred.
One of the following is required:
Current licensure through American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT), specializing in Sonography.
Current registry through American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS), preferred.
Current Basic Life Support (BLS) is required, within 30 days of hire.
One year of prior experience in an imaging setting is preferred.
