The Ultrasound Technologist performs all ordered Duplex Ultrasound scans and assists the physician or provider in performing procedures for patients suffering from chronic venous insufficiency. The Ultrasound Technologist also participates in quality and safety initiatives, educating and motivating patients, and in practice building and administrative activities. JOB RESPONSIBILITIES Perform patient evaluation and assessment prior to ultrasound examination within scope of practice Perform ultrasound examination of patients and create a diagram demonstrating venous anatomy, physiology, and pathophysiology to assist the physician in recommending a safe, effective treatment plan Assist the Physician in educating the patient on the treatment plan and how the treatment plan addresses the patient's specific needs Assist the Physician or Advanced Practice Provider during Ultrasound Guided Injection treatment sessions with the appropriate directions regarding needle placement and recommendations for volume and strength of solution to be injected Assist the Physician during endovenous thermal or endovenous adhesive ablation procedures with the appropriate directions regarding catheter placement and withdrawal, and set up for and clean up following ablation procedures Perform all additional scans indicated by the treatment plan at the direction of the Physician to ensure the efficacy of treatment and safety of the patients Within the limits of safety, adhere to the standard time allotments for each type of scan in order to maintain the smooth and efficient flow of patients throughout the course of the scheduled day Working with the operations staff, review and update the ultrasound schedule to ensure safe patient care and to maintain the patient load at an efficient and productive level Develop and maintain a high level of skills commensurate with the standards set by the National Medical Director through continued education and interaction with other VCA Ultrasound Technologists Maintain equipment and manage the supply inventory to ensure continued and effective operations Clean and maintain designated ultrasound and procedure rooms following each procedure or scan and at the end of the day to ensure smooth patient flow throughout the day Obtain and document patient photos at several intervals throughout the treatment process When not actively engaged with a scheduled patient, assist other staff members with their duties in the spirit of teamwork in order to maintain an effective and efficient operation Maintain flexibility with given schedule, and in the nature of team spirit, provide support and coverage for other clinics in need of ultrasound coverage Build rapport with patients by instilling a high level of confidence in our providers' ability to fully address their medical concerns Develop efficiencies that will allow clinic to increase patient flow and still provide the highest quality of care to patients Please note this job description is not designed to cover or contain a comprehensive listing of activities, duties or responsibilities that are required of the employee for this job. Job Title: Ultrasound Technologists Period of Performance: 1 Base year, 4 option years. Compensation: $38/hour Work Schedule: The normal work schedule will be 40 hours per week, 8 hours per day, Monday - Friday. The shift will be from 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. This 8-hour shift includes a mandatory ½ hour non-paid lunch break. If patient care needs prevent the ability to take a 30-minute lunch, the Ultrasound Supervisor must be notified during the said shift to provide coverage or authorize no lunch. Primary Responsibilities Work cooperatively with Radiologic Technologists, Physicians, and a variety of allied health professionals to deliver comprehensive health care services to VA inpatient and outpatients. Other information: Required Job Qualifications: • Graduate of/ obtained certification of completion of/ a formal Accredited Diagnostic Medical Sonography Program • Active certification by American Registry and Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (RDMS, BR) in Breast or by the American Registry of Radiologic Technology (ARRT, BS) with advanced certification in Breast Ultrasound • 2 years of Breast Imaging experience. • Demonstrate sonographic skills to identify, record and adapt procedures as appropriate to patient for anatomical, pathological and diagnostic information and images. • Demonstrate independent judgment to acquire the optimum breast sonographic information in each examination performed. • Ability to evaluate images for technical quality, assuring proper identification is recorded and correct imaging protocol is followed. • Ability to operate sonographic equipment effectively. • Ability to consistently acquire high quality images, demonstrates overall excellent quality work. • Ability to evaluate and communicate breast information to the attending physician. • Ability to communicate effectively with the patient and health care team, recognizing the special needs of each patient. • Ability to provide appropriate 1:1 feedback, coaching and mentoring to staff in the effort to continually improve image quality and patient care. • Proven customer service skills. • Decision-making skills. • Good organizational and follow-up skills. • Able to work independently. • Clear and concise verbal and written communication skills. • Computer skills. Preferred Job Qualifications: • Epic knowledge. • Experience with performing both mammography images and ultrasound sonography. Responsibilities: 1.Serves as in a dual role performing both mammography images and ultrasound sonography. 2.Obtains optimum quality breast images for radiologist interpretation in mammography and the ultrasound modalities 3.Performs screening mammograms unsupervised and performs diagnostic breast imaging studies under the supervision of the radiologist 4.Performs screening examinations independently. 5.Performs diagnostic examinations independently. 6.Assists with diagnostic mammography procedures in the diagnostic mammography suite as needed. 7.Performs Breast ultrasound exams and procedures which may take between 15 to 90 minutes. 8.Obtains optimum quality breast images for radiologist interpretation and assists radiologist with invasive procedures using aseptic techniques. 9.Assesses patients through review of previous studies and history to determine screening versus diagnostic patients. 10.Independently performs clinical assessment and breast sonography examinations with minimal supervision. 11.Trains other mammography technologists on ultrasound techniques and procedures, monitors competencies. 12.Provides appropriate instructions for patients, and assumes responsibility for the safety, mental and physical comfort of the patients while they are in the sonographer's care. 13.Provides sonography instruction, oversees and coaches hands on clinical breast ultrasound exam performance for cross-training mammography technologists and students. 14.Trains mammography technologist on the skills required to perform ultrasound imaging and procedures. 15.Develops competencies and ensures that newly trained staff are competent in fulfilling their responsibilities as ultrasound sonographers. 16.Monitors quality and evaluates imaging and new ultrasound sonographers. 17.Develops training programs for new ultrasound equipment as necessary by the practice and maintains skills up to date with the field of ultrasound sonography.
