Opened in 2007, Progress West Hospital is BJC HealthCare's newest hospital in St. Charles County, featuring modern private rooms. It offers 24-hour emergency services and has partnered with St. Louis Children's Hospital to provide world-class pediatric emergency care.
Progress West Hospital also provides surgical services, endoscopy services, a cardiac catheterization lab, medical/surgical inpatient services, diagnostic imaging, lab services, and the Advanced Wound Center, a specialty wound treatment facility with state-of-the-art equipment. Progress West Hospital recently completed an expansion of its Childbirth Center to include enhanced services for at-risk mothers and babies, with a newborn ICU that provides care for babies born as early as 32 weeks.
Progress West Hospital is a Certified Level II Stroke Center. The hospital's medical office building houses offices for specialists in primary care, cardiology, obstetrics, pediatrics, and orthopedics.
The Imaging Services Department is a full-service department, providing comprehensive imaging support. Included within the scope of services available are these exam classifications: General X-ray, Fluoroscopy, Computed Tomography (CT), Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI), Ultrasound, Mammography, Diagnostic Mammograms and Ultrasound, Nuclear Medicine. This department, along with all departments within the hospital, supports the guiding principles of the hospital in providing care that is customized and reflects the patient's needs, values, and choices.

RAYUS Radiology, formerly Center for Diagnostic Imaging, is looking for a Sonographer to join our team. We are challenging the status quo by shining the light on radiology and making it a critical first step in diagnosis and proper treatment. Come join us and shine brighter together. As a Sonographer/UltrasoundTechnologist you will independently operate sonographic equipment, and perform and communicate the results of diagnostic examinations using sonography. This position is per diem, shifts will vary.
Essential Duties:
(85%) Sonographic Examination
* Performs clinical assessment and diagnostic sonography examinations, including breast,
ABI and a full range of other sonography examinations
* Screens patient before exam for any precautions or contraindications pertaining to the
examination
* Obtains and reviews the requisition for examination in order to be aware of information
such as procedure requested, clinical history, patient condition or any other special
requirements
* Uses cognitive sonographic skills to identify, record, and adapt procedures as
appropriate to anatomical, pathological, diagnostic information and images
* Uses independent judgment during the sonographic exam to accurately differentiate
between normal and pathologic findings
* Independently initiates additional ultrasound imaging procedures to facilitate optimum
diagnostic results (e.g., endovaginal exam, Doppler, etc.)
* Analyses sonograms, synthesizes sonographic information and medical history, and
communicates findings to the appropriate physician
* Maintains positive attitude and working relationships with radiologists, referring offices
and other associates and peers
* Converses with doctors, nurses, patients and family members as required
* Accurately maintains patient records within Radiology Information System (RIS)
* Provides interpreting physician with an oral or written summary of technical findings
* Identifies problems, secures relevant data to identify possible causes; generates
alternative courses of action and possible consequences
* Assists with the daily operations of the sonographic laboratory
* Maintains an orderly and clean work area promoting good safety habits for patients and
co-workers
(10%) Operational Support
* Demonstrates responsibility and accuracy for electronic data entry and maintenance
* Completes exam billing
* Maintains ultrasound equipment and work area, and maintains adequate supplies
* Participates in continuous quality improvements activities
* Assists with training new associates, providing resource and technical expertise
* Establishes and maintains ethical working relationships and good rapport with all
interrelating hospitals and referring physicians
* Helps supervisor gain support for unit goals and plans
(5%) Performs other duties as assigned
Required
* Graduate of a formal Diagnostic Medical Sonography Program or Cardiovascular
Technology Program that is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied
Health Education Programs (CAAHEP)
* Active certification by American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS) in the specialty(ies) as appropriate
Preferred:
* Bachelor of Science degree in Diagnostic Medical Sonography
* Advanced registry in Vascular, Abdomen, OB, and Breast imaging
* Bilingual

THE JOB
As a Sonographer, your focus is on ultrasound support for VEG hospitals and training facilities. This means working closely with our emergency doctors to provide same-day ultrasound scans for pets when they need it most. You'll deal with a variety of patient types and scans, so being comfortable adapting to new scenarios and willing to learn new techniques and think outside the box are all part of your day-to-day. You'll also assist in coordinating education opportunities and overall ultrasound training for your home and regional hospitals, inspire and motivate your fellow VEGgies to grow their ultrasound skills, and be ready to pitch in at the hospital whenever and wherever needed.
WHAT YOU'LL DO
Perform ultrasound studies and facilitate ultrasound training at your home hospital and regional hospitals
Maintain good relationships with and accept feedback from teleconsultation radiologists reading your studies (e.g., Antech, SonoPath, IDEXX, VetsChoice, etc.)
Ensure all training content and activities are in alignment with VEG culture, mission, and vision, and represent accurate, up-to-date sonographic techniques
Track doctor and nursing team skills with a VEG Ultrasound Certificate checklist
Engage in self-reflection and program evaluation practices to modify and enhance VEG's ultrasound training programs
Regularly meet with the medical directors, nursing trainer, and director of radiology education to discuss program development, training objectives, and additional needs
Regularly meet with the hospital manager and medical director to discuss implementation of new training protocols, training schedules, hospital training needs, and team concerns
Coordinate weekly schedule to work on the floor shifts with the hospital manager and medical director and devote time to training responsibilities
May assist in developing ultrasound curriculum material, such as PowerPoints, videos, simulations, and assessments to be implemented across the doctor and nursing team training programs
May provide educational demonstrations for doctors and nurses at other VEGs, including ultrasound topics, such as abdominal, thoracic, cardiac, cervical, and musculoskeletal studies
WHAT YOU NEED
Credentialed as a Veterinary Technician (LVT/CVT/RVT/LVMT), diagnostic medical sonographer (RDMS), and/or equivalent experience (e.g., sonographer course certificates)
3+ years veterinary ultrasound experience
Previous training experience and the patience to teach and develop doctors, nurses, and fellow sonographers
Comfortable mentoring others and giving/receiving feedback from colleagues
Adaptability to changing environments
Excellent communicator with peers, customers, and VEGgies
