The Energy Credit Underwriter delivers detailed quantitative and qualitative credit analysis and underwriting for energy loan requests. The Underwriter works with Energy Bankers and Portfolio Managers to understand and measure the risk associated with both new and existing client relationships and to create loan structures to mitigate these risks. This role prepares detailed documents summarizing loan opportunities with minimal turn-around times and recommends to Bankers, Portfolio Managers, and Credit Officers.
Duties & Responsibilities
* Complete formal credit loan approval memos including preparing a cash flow model and other financial spreadsheets and analysis.
* Prepare detailed financial memos on prospective loan requests.
* Accurately calculate financial ratios and monitor Borrower's covenants for compliance as outlined in loan documents.
* Analyze and assess financial statements and credit history of existing and potential clients to ensure loans are appropriately structured and meet credit requirements for lending quality and compliance as determined by the Bank's Credit Policy.
* Partner with Bankers, Portfolio Managers, and Credit Officers in managing loans and pipeline.
* Use independent judgement by identifying primary risks, issues and mitigants regarding extensions of credit.
* Participate in client site visits, client prospect calls, and in internal loan discussions to remain actively involved in structuring client loans.
* Monitor loan agreement covenants and borrowing base compliances and report exceptions.
* Assist in reports on overall energy portfolio, including assessing asset quality, stress testing, market analysis, and risk analysis.
* Exercise pre-approval and post-approval actions.
* Utilize diverse data analysis processes, techniques, and tools to analyze and interpret property related data.
* Provide feedback and guidance to Credit Monitoring Analysts regarding analytical approaches and techniques.
* Build trusted, collaborative and supporting relationships with internal and external business partners.

Education & Experience
* Basic knowledge of financial statements.

Compensation and Benefits

Hilltop Securities is currently looking to hire an Underwriter, Sr. in Dallas, Texas. The Underwriter, Sr. manages and expands the Hilltop Securities brokered CD business. They lead new issue CD underwriting, maintain relationships with depository customers, and collaborate with various teams to ensure competitive pricing and balance sheet solutions. They also develop and execute funding strategies for bank clients through different market conditions.
Responsibilities
Underwrite brokered Certificates of Deposit (CDs) by assessing risk and viability of CD issuers, reviewing financial statements, conducting due diligence, and ensuring compliance with regulatory standards.
Develop and execute funding strategies that attract & maintain bank clients.
Negotiate terms, resolve issues and ensure customer satisfaction.
Collaborate with the trading desk to ensure that the pricing of brokered CDs is competitive and aligns with Hilltop's balance sheet strategies. Analyzing market trends, pricing models, and financial data.
Work closely with the Financial Strategies Team to develop and enhance relationships with internal issuers.
Approve or deny business based on underwriting assessments, which involves making informed decisions on whether to accept new issuers or continue relationships with existing ones.
Travel required to visit existing clients and potential clients to understand their needs, present solutions, and build relationships. This includes attending industry conferences, conducting site visits, and holding meetings.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in finance, economics, business, or a related field preferred.
Advanced degrees or certifications (e.g., CFA) could be advantageous.
Minimum 5 years' experience in underwriting CDs and building relationships with bank clients.
Active Series 7 and 63 licenses.
Proven history of managing a book of existing depository bank business.
Strong analytical and decision-making skills.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Ability to travel as required.
