Job Summary

Reporting to the Structural Welder, is responsible for welding structural steel (c-channels) to fabricate the framing for sheet metal enclosure buildings using welding equipment and techniques. This position uses the FCAW process.
What a typical day looks like:
Plans details of work order procedures; gathers required tools and materials based on instructions and specifications provided for the job.
Lay out, position, align, and secure parts prior to assembly
Weld structural steel (c-channels) in flat, vertical, or overhead positions using welding techniques and equipment
Clamp, hold, or tack weld parts to obtain required configurations and positions for welding
Determine required equipment and welding techniques, applying knowledge of metallurgy, geometry, and welding techniques
Maintains, organizes, and cleans equipment and the work area.
Notifies supervisor when faulty equipment or defective materials are discovered.
Complete all other duties as assigned
The experience we're looking to add to our team:
High School Diploma or equivalent
Completion of a formal apprenticeship OR 2+ years' experience in dual shield welding process
Certification required: AWS D1.1 FCAW (Flux Core Arc Welding)
Reading comprehension skills with the ability to interpret and follow written directions, blueprints, and drawings including weld symbols
Basic math skills to meet technical specifications and measurements
Thorough understanding of machines and tools used in welding techniques including designs, uses, maintenance, and repair
Ability to demonstrate proficiency in the FCAW process for structural welding.
Ability to read a tape measure.
Ability to make jigs and setups
Overhead crane operation a plus
What the physical requirements are:
Must be able to weld components that are vertical, flat, or overhead.

Knowledge of different kinds of metal and their properties is also required. We will provide PPE, FRC, tools and equipment. We will also pay and train on safety.
Welder responsibilities are:
Explore and follow blueprints and drawings, taking measurements to plan layout and procedures
Prepare the appropriate welding equipment or method based on requirements
Prepare components for welding according to specifications (such as powered saws to match measurements when cutting material)
Use angle grinders to prepare the parts that must be welded
Use calipers, rulers etc. and clamp pieces to align components
Use manual or semi-automatic welding equipment in various positions to weld components
Check welded surfaces and structures for flaws by testing and inspecting them

Day to Day Duties:
Performing arc and torch cutting and gouging.
Using generators, compressors, tuggers, blowers, grinders, and other power and air tools.
Welding plate with 7018, 7024 and 6010 stick (SMAW), flux core (FCAW), and submerged arc automatic machines (3 o'clock and “goat”/tractor).
Using come-alongs, hydraulic jacks, hoists, air bags, winches, and other lifting equipment.
Using tank shell buggies, tank scaffolding, tank ladders, and other specialty equipment.
Performing vacuum box tests, oil tests, dye penetrant tests, and other non-destructive quality examinations.
Using gas monitors, fresh air kits, respirators, emergency rescue kits, and other safety equipment.
Operating forklifts, man lifts, boom lifts, and other large lifting equipment.
Knowledge of crane operations (including rigging and signaling)
Reading detailed erection and fabrication drawings.
Planning the sequence and methods of fitting up, welding, repairing, and constructing tanks.
Completing job safety analysis, safety audits, site-specific training, and other safety training.
Follow directions and work professionally with other crew members. \
