WSP USA is initiating a search for a Lead Geologist for the Greensboro, North Carolina office to be involved in projects with our Earth & Environment Team. This person will plan, direct, and oversee environmental consulting services in support of public and private clientele. Your Impact
Plan, oversee, and mentor environmental scientists and engineers performing technical assignments (both field and office) on environmental projects/programs.
Provide technical review/oversight/mentoring of teams to assure compliance with environmental laws, company standards, contract requirements and related specifications.
Manage projects technically and administratively.
Oversee development and execution of cross-functional teams performing project scopes, schedules, and budgets.
Prepare comprehensive technical reports and presentations to explain research, findings, recommendations to prevent, control, remedy, or clean-up chemical and environmental concerns related to State and Federal regulations.
Plan and direct business development and marketing strategies/activities to capture new clients for WSP USA.
Represent WSP USA and interact in a professional manner with clients, regulators, and subcontractors.
May travel to project sites primarily in the Southeast.
Understand and assure compliance with company, client, and site Health and Safety standards.

Who You Are
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Geology, Hydrogeology, Geosciences or closely related discipline.
7-10 years of related experience.
Ability to pursue and develop clients in the public or private sectors.
Proficient in project management and/or business development experience.
Knowledge and experience with Federal and State (NC, SC, VA) environmental regulatory programs.
Highly effective interpersonal and communication skills when interacting with others, expressing ideas effectively and professionally to a technical and non-technical audience.
Must pass physical, background check and must have a valid driver's license and satisfactory driving record in accordance with the Company's driving (Motor Vehicle Safety) policy.

Your Key Responsibilities
DO: Project Delivery
* Serve as Project Technical Lead and Engineer of Record for water infrastructure projects with responsibility for reviewing and sealing of projects

As a Mechanical Engineer, your role in our professional consulting services team is to work independently on multidisciplinary projects of various complexity as a discipline leader, through all phases of a project lifecycle. You are responsible for leading the design of HVAC, Plumbing, and Fire Protection systems on municipal water treatment plants, pumping stations, wastewater treatment plants, hydroelectric power plants, and private industrial water applications in different locations across North America. Your Key Responsibilities
* Lead the design of HVAC, Plumbing, and Fire Protection systems for various projects from preliminary design through bid and construction phases.
* Develop basis of design reports (BODR) and technical memorandums for small-to- medium size projects, setting criteria for following design stages.
* Develop design documents including drawings, specifications, and opinion of probable construction costs (OPCC).
* Respond to RFIs, review submittals and shop drawings, and attend construction site visits for design compliance.

The position relies heavily on an ability to interact with clients, team leadership skills, and technical knowledge. The successful candidate will have the ability to work on a breadth of civil projects ranging from erosion and sediment control plans, spill prevention, control, and countermeasure (SPCC) plans, hydraulics and hydrology design, civil grading, and landfill design and closure projects. Additionally, as part of a growing team in our Earth & Environment Business Line, you will assist in the expansion of the Civil Engineering team's portfolio of clients. As a civil engineer, the candidate will be responsible for execution of calculations, design options, reports, agency reviews, and construction drawings for civil design projects. The candidate will have a strong desire to interact with clients and foster long lasting relationships.
**Your Impact**
+ Manage and direct small to medium project design teams
+ Prepare scope of work and costing documents for proposals
+ Coordinate with other senior engineering staff, lead junior team members, project stakeholders and other disciplines to manage an organized approach to project execution
+ Perform professional civil engineering work including design of erosion and sediment control measures in compliance with state requirements, SPCC plans, site grading using AutoCAD Civil3D, hydraulic systems (closed and open conduits), hydrologic analyses, and stormwater management facilities.
+ Prepare permit applications and respond to agency (owner) comments in design
+ Prepare construction drawings and specifications to implement designs
+ Prepare client-ready reports and drawings
+ Evaluate design options and understand cost/benefit of solutions
+ Training and mentoring junior staff
+ Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint software
+ Occasional travel may be required depending on project-specific requirements
**Who You Are**
**Required Qualifications**
+ Minimum Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering
+ Professional Engineer registration in North Carolina, or ability to obtain within one year
+ 7-10 years of professional engineering experience
+ Valid state driver's license. Must successfully complete and pass WSP's Motor Vehicle screening
+ Must be willing to travel to project sites and business meetings, as required
+ Project management experience and team leadership skills
+ Proficient in Microsoft Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and Civil design software tools
+ Proficient with making technical computations and calculations involving the application of engineering principles, understanding plans and specifications and making factual comparisons to the appropriate regulations.
+ Works independently and provides guidance and leadership to junior-level team or project members, with strict adherence to QA/QC.
+ Excellent leadership and interpersonal verbal and written communication skills with the ability to effectively, persuasively, and tactfully interact with employees at all levels of the organization.
+ Tactical lateral thinking and strong analytical skills with attention to detail and prioritization of responsibilities in a pressure work environment.
+ Ability to elicit cooperation from a wide variety of sources, including senior management, clients, regulators, and company-wide staff, including those with whom no formal hierarchical relationship exits.
+ Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP's health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.
+ Strong ability to quickly adapt to change and demonstrate flexibility to a variety of schedules and hours to meet business needs.

+ Master's Degree in Civil Engineering or related discipline.
