Who You Are Required Qualifications Bachelor's Degree in Civil or Environmental or Chemical Engineering, with a focus in Water Treatment or closely related discipline. Engineer in Training Certification. 7+ years of relevant post education experience in a design or consulting engineering firm working on industrial and mining water treatment projects. Strong engineering skills in process development and detailed design projects. Ability to work both collaboratively and independently Self-starter with strong written and verbal skills Manage engineering teams on small and large complex projects Proficient in the use of Microsoft Excel, Outlook, and Word along with graphics software necessary for the conceptual design of Industrial wastewater systems. Effective interpersonal and communication skills when interacting with others, expressing intricate ideas effectively and professionally to an engineering and non-engineering audience. Highly capable self-leadership and interpersonal communication skills with the ability to effectively, persuasively, and tactfully interact with clients, regulators, project managers, and employees at all levels of the organization. Proficiency with technical writing, office automation and communication software, technology, math principles, predictive models, and tools. Developed critical thinking and problem-solving skills required to apply technical knowledge to reach conclusions from testing results, data collation, statistical analysis and arriving at the most effective, economical, and logical solution. Ability to work independently and provide guidance and leadership to junior team or project members, with strict adherence to QA/QC. Demonstrated effectiveness at coordinating and assertively directing subcontractors and others to consistently complete tasks safely and efficiently. Your Opportunity As a Senior Mining Cost Estimator at Stantec, you will be responsible for developing, managing, and coordinating large multi-discipline mining cost estimates and construction schedules. Provides high level technical assistance and guidance for multi-site/phase due diligence, design, development, building, testing, and inspecting of smart building projects in the public and private sector. Your Impact * Provide guidance with collecting, compiling, and analyzing data from the physical work site, surveys, blueprints, schematics, data, technical drawings, flow diagrams, computer-generated reports, and other matrices for project development, design, and installation. * Apply high-level building technology techniques and processes to identify improvements for various project work including concept development, preliminary design, final design, procurement, integration, installation, and operation. * Perform professional building technology work and conduct research and inspections of proposed and existing site conditions, equipment, resources, layout, usage, and systems to determine conformance with applicable rules, standards, codes, and installation or operating permits. * Develop construction and installation plans, specifications, and cost estimates; preparing phasing plans and updating technology layout plans that require coordination with owners, other disciplines, sub-consultants, and clients. * Involved from project inception to completion in the management of building technology design, installation, and integration projects, including renovation, new builds, operating specifications, materials and equipment, phasing, and installation plans. * Develop and incorporate advanced technologies, monitoring devices, building materials, modeling techniques, design requirements, load calculations, and operating strategies to account for the proper installation and functioning of equipment and systems; implementing future-ready solutions with smart building technology design standards. * Verify site characteristics and provide technical assistance on various design, installation, and integration issues relating to creating state of the art smart buildings using a converged network approach, AV/telecommunications, and intelligent systems that make predictive and automated decisions that impact building capabilities, safety, and security. * Oversee and monitor cross-functional teams to execute project work on mid-level and/or multiple concurrent projects, including budgets, tracking hours and expenses, task completion, cost and quantities of materials/equipment/labor, technical calculations, permit applications, schematics, construction, compliance documentation, and regulatory and technical analysis memos. * Coordinate, review and approve installation design plans, ensuring data integrity and work is compliant with all applicable codes, ordinances, and regulations. * Prepare data and visualizations such as tables, charts, reports, sketches, calculations, cross-sections, technical drawings, spreadsheets, and other 2D/3D illustrations for the interpretation or presentation of more complex data, findings, or analyses. * Prepare comprehensive technical reports and presentations that explain research, concepts, and recommendations to prevent, control, restore, or address design and/or installation issues or opportunities. * Analyze, evaluate, and interpret data obtained during site assessments, offering input with developing action plans for moderate- to high-level risk installation, equipment operations, and/or mitigation activities. * Prepare and implement site Health and Safety Plans (HASPs). * Interact with any applicable regulatory agencies, subcontractors, and clients in a confident and professional manner. * Collaborate with professionals, other engineers, inspectors, project control, and technicians on public and privately-funded improvement and development projects, as well as proposal and business development opportunities. * Remain current in latest building technology techniques and practices. * Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct, and adhere to WSP's Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures. * Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs. Who You Are Required Qualifications * Possess a four-year degree (B.S. in engineering is preferred) or equivalent combination of technical degree and related work experience designing technology systems for buildings. * 7 to 10 years of relevant post education experience in an AV and Telecommunications discipline with prior smart building technology design experience. * Proficient with building technology principles, practices, process, design/build, and the application to project work-related issues. * Extensive knowledge of smart building design. * Experience with building planning, design, and installation management; including active involvement in a variety of renovation and new design projects. * Well-defined specific knowledge of relevant building technology installation and/or construction laws, codes, regulations, compliance practices, and record-keeping requirements. * Well-developed ability to make technical computations and calculations involving the application of building technology principles, understanding plans and specifications, and making factual comparisons to the appropriate standards or regulations. * Ability to plan and conduct inspections and investigations on various aspects of the installation and design of equipment, facilities, and systems. * Highly effective interpersonal and communication skills when interacting with others, expressing ideas effectively and professionally to a technical and non-technical audience. * Demonstrated high-level of self-leadership with attention to detail, multi-tasking, and prioritization of responsibilities in a dynamic work environment. * Works independently with minimal oversight and provides guidance and leadership to junior team or project members, with strict adherence to QA/QC. * Highly proficient with technical writing, office automation, load calculations, discipline-specific design software (i.e., Revit, AutoCAD, CAM), technology, math principles, predictive models, spreadsheets, and tools. * Well-developed critical thinking and problem-solving skills required to apply technical knowledge to reach conclusions from testing results, data collation, load calculations, computations, statistical analysis and arriving at the most effective, economical, and logical solution. * Demonstrated effectiveness at coordinating and assertively directing subcontractors and others to consistently complete tasks safely and efficiently. * Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP's health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies. * Ability to work schedules conducive to project-specific requirements that may extend beyond the typical workweek. * Occasional travel may be required depending on project-specific requirements. Job Summary: Responsible for land development, residential, industrial, retail, mixed-use, healthcare, educational and recreational design technical tasks including, but not limited to: conceptual site layout; utility design; roadway design; site grading design; soil erosion and sedimentation control design; floodplain studies; providing permitting and entitlement support; preparation of engineer's opinions of probable cost; assistance with preparation of proposals; and construction support.
