Your Impact People & Performance Leadership + Responsible to assist in the management, growth and development of the Civil Engineering Transportation team. + Provide leadership, partnering closely with the Local Business Leader and Senior Management Team. + Focus on meeting Key Performance Indicators and contribute to the overall success of the West Region. + Mentor staff to support their growth and professional development. + Recruit for new key positions and retain current staff Business Development + Support our clients and the industry through innovative thought and advancement of transformative transportation projects. + Collaborate with other local offices and in-house national transportation delivery experts to provide clients with innovative and future-focused solutions. + Support transportation business development efforts, strategy development, client engagement and pursuits in California. + Assist in the process of procuring contracts with preferred contractors for transportation projects. + Engage with clients to develop new business leads and project pursuits. + Develop strategic alliances and project partners to secure new work. + Represent the firm in the market through involvement in client and industry events and associations. Project/Program Management + Lead the delivery of roadway projects and project teams for Caltrans and other local agencies in the Southern California District as an active member of the transportation team. + Lead the delivery of transportation, rail and transit projects and project teams for agencies in the Northern California District as an active member of the transportation team. + Lead key projects as Contract Manager, Project Manager, Sr Lead or other roles as appropriate. + Participate in contract negotiations. + Guide staff and assist in project management responsibilities, including oversight of project financial performance, adherence to project management and quality control plans, and adequacy of risk management plans. + Provide leadership and oversight to ensure quality project deliverables, including PS&E documents, engineering reports, project memorandums, etc. + Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs. + Occasional travel may be required depending on project-specific requirements. Who You Are **Required Qualifications** + Bachelor's degree in Engineering or closely related discipline. + Engineer license required (California preferred). + Advanced proficiency with Caltrans Design Development process, Highway Design and Construction practices. + 12+ years of relevant post-education experience in the civil engineering and infrastructure design. + 10+ years of total experience in Caltrans related projects. + Ability to lead and grow the civil engineering business. + Experience as a project manager, deputy project manager, construction management or task lead on projects. + Ability to work independently and provides guidance and leadership to mid-level to senior level team or project members, with strict adherence to QA/QC. + Strong management/leadership skills. + Proficiency with technical writing, Microsoft Office suite. + Established client relationships and industry contacts. + Ability to effectively manage multiple tasks and projects + Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills and ability to work within a team environment, as well as writing proposals and project-related documents like project scopes of work and reports. + Occasional travel may be required depending on project-specific requirements. **Preferred Qualifications** + Master's of Science in Civil Engineering or related field from an accredited program. + Experience working with California Department of Transportation (Caltrans). + Local agency roadway and intersection planning and design experience. + Project Management Professional (PMP) certification. + Familiarity with discipline-specific design software (i.e., MicroStation, InRoads/OpenRoads, AutoCAD, Civil 3D), technology, spreadsheets, and tools. Your Opportunity Stantec is seeking a consulting biologist with at least 15 years of experience to join our southern California Ecosystems Group by operating out of our Santa Barbara, California office. As a Principal-level Biologist with Stantec, you will work in a highly dynamic team environment with other biologists/ecologists/water resource specialists, and wider multidisciplinary team. This will be a leadership role providing direction and mentorship for junior team members, project management, and responsibility for driving business development. This position will primarily entail office work but may include limited opportunities for field work. In this position, you will be responsible for the contribution and management of multi-disciplinary project teams across multiple sectors, including, but not limited to, renewable energy, and electric and gas transmission and distribution projects, as well as natural resource planning and management projects. As a Principal Biologist, you will oversee and provide expertise in field biology, regulatory strategy, CEQA/NEPA analysis, and permitting strategy. Specific background and expertise should consist of excellent botanical, wetland, or wildlife technical expertise, expertise with regulatory permitting, and proven success in project and client management. This position requires extensive coordination with clients, resource agencies, and environmental and technical staff. The ideal San Diego, CA candidate will also have the following qualifications: Experience working on utility-related biological compliance projects, particularly with San Diego Gas & Electric (SDG&E), is highly desirable. Experience managing complex projects and/or programs in southern California as a Project Manager for multidisciplinary teams. Familiarity with SDG&E's environmental permitting processes, biological monitoring protocols, and utility corridor operations is considered a strong asset. Candidates with prior consulting or coordination experience involving SDG&E projects are encouraged to apply. Special consideration will be given to applicants who have supported SDG&E's Habitat Conservation Planning and mitigation strategies, or CPUC-regulated initiatives. Your Opportunity The Senior Paleontologist will work as part of a dynamic team that is based in Southern California but includes staff members across the United States. Stantec Paleontology is one of the largest paleontological mitigation programs in the country, holding numerous statewide Bureau of Land Management and project-specific United States Forest Service and National Park Service paleontological permits. Our team includes over 30 paleontologists, including field technicians and directors, fossil preparators, and principal investigators. Stantec supports a wide range of paleontology projects, from multi-state transmission and pipeline projects to road improvements, solar fields, private development, and more. We offer support through all stages of permitting and development, including preconstruction surveys and assessments, construction mitigation programs, and fossil treatment. Our Monrovia, California and Denver, Colorado offices include fossil preparation workspaces, with museum-quality preparation equipment. Within this team, the Senior Paleontologist will direct compliance projects for state, federal, and commercial clients and is responsible for overseeing project development, direction, coordination, and quality control, under the guidance of the Principal Paleontologist. Additionally, the Senior Paleontologist will train staff, oversee field directors, produce quality reports, manage multiple projects and budgets, author proposals and participate in marketing, as required. Your Key Responsibilities - Preparation and review of paleontological technical reports, CEQA/NEPA documents, impact mitigation plans, and annual permit reports. - Preparation of cost proposals including budgets and scopes of work. - Project management: implementation of projects from kickoff to completion, including client and agency coordination, project scheduling, coordination of support staff, and budget management. Implementation of resource impact mitigation measures including monitoring and fossil collection projects of all types and sizes. - Participation in and logistical planning for field projects from inception to completion across the western US. - Supervision and training of field crews, management and QA/QC of field data, and coordination with land management agencies and clients. - Detailed and accurate field data collection (including ability to collect data using table computers and - Trimble GPS units) with an emphasis on stratigraphic documentation of project sites and fossil localities therein. - Participation in and supervision of existing data analyses including museum and agency record searches, geologic map reviews, and literature-based research. - Assistance with marketing and business development efforts. - Adherence to ethical business practices, professional standards, laws and regulations, and best practices in mitigation paleontology. Qualifications Your Capabilities and Credentials - Demonstrated professional experience and competency with paleontological resource mitigation procedures and techniques. - Meet federal qualifications as a paleontological permittee (43 Code of Federal Regulations Part 49.110) - Working knowledge of how paleontological resources and their associated data are used in conducting and publishing professional paleontological research. - Knowledge of federal, state, and local laws and procedures that apply to all aspects of mitigation paleontology. - Candidates must be motivated team members, possess exceptional written and verbal communication skills, and are ready to make a commitment to professional excellence. - Field experience in sedimentary geology and paleontology. - Fossil preparation and museum curation experience. - Project management experience. - Ability to work independently and as an integral part of a team. - Must have good driving record and a valid driver's license.
