Job Summary:
The X-Ray Technologist (Tech) performs radiographic procedures to assist in the diagnosis of disease and injuries. The X-Ray Tech works effectively with patients and families and maintains a collaborative relationship with other clinic personnel.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Prepare examination room, equipment, and instruments per patient needs
Identify correct patient and verify the order, explain procedure to the patient
Position patient correctly for radiological procedures
Operate x-ray/fluoro/c-arm machine according to established procedures to ensure patient safety and comfort, shield patient from radiation as needed
Constant adherence to radiation safety
Answer patient questions as they relate to the procedure
Operate within radiologic standards of care
Document patient care records in accordance with outlined policies and procedures
Review each examination for technical accuracy, present the completed examination to physician, and communicate pertinent data to persons responsible for the care of the patient following the procedure
Assumes responsibility for assigned area; controls inventory of supplies for assigned area and cleans and disinfects exam rooms and equipment as needed

* Independently conduct complex 3D and 2D magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scans of the head, spine, extremities, and body, ensuring precise image acquisition for diagnostic purposes.
* Instructs patients by explaining procedures methods, safety precautions, and risks, position them accurately, start intravenous lines (IV) as needed, and produce required images for examinations.
* Establishes and oversees the maintenance of a quality control program in the MRI Section and participates in the in-service educational program
* Independently performs complex computerized axial tomographic scanning of heads or bodies.
* Responsible for all major and minor equipment held in the MRI Section
* Participates with the decision, when invited, on major equipment purchasing to maintain the most advanced standards to provide proper patient care.
* Identity's image artifacts to enhance quality, collaborate with radiologists to tailor imaging protocols for both standard and complex cases, and promptly notify physicians of significant findings during exams.

Basic Requirement for Diagnostic Radiologic Technologist (MRI):
Radiology Certification: Public Law 97-35 requires that persons who administer radiologic procedures meet the credentialing standards in 42 CFR Part 75. Essentially, they must (1) have successfully completed an educational program that meets or exceeds the standards described in that regulation and is accredited by an organization recognized by the Department of Education, and (2) be certified as radiographers in their field. The following meet these requirements:
(1) Persons employed by the Federal Government as radiologic personnel prior to the effective date of the regulation (January 13, 1986) who show evidence of current or fully satisfactory performance or certification of such from a licensed practitioner such as a doctor of medicine, osteopathy, dentistry, podiatry, or chiropractic who prescribes radiologic procedures to others.
(2) Persons first employed by the Federal Government as radiologic personnel after the effective date of the regulation who (a) received training from institutions in a State or foreign jurisdiction that did not accredit training in that particular field at the time of graduation, or (b) practiced in a State or foreign jurisdiction that did not license that particular field or did not allow special eligibility to take a licensure examination for those who did not graduate from an accredited educational program, provided such persons show evidence of training, experience, and competence, as determined by OPM or the employing agency.
In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below:
Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes performing independent magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) on patients for diagnostic purposes; conducting magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) training to staff members; and maintaining organized records of imaging data. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-07).
Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.

Shift: Mon.-Fri. 7:00am-3:30pm Goal This is a technical position to operate diagnostic ultrasound equipment and perform ultrasound procedures on various anatomical internal organs, peripheral vessels, fluid accumulations, masses and developing fetuses. To report preliminary findings, measurements and diagnoses to the Radiologist. To record scanned ultrasound images and transfer to PACS for interpretation after checking image quality. Position Responsibilities:
* Demonstrate the ability to perform quality and timely routine diagnostic ultrasound studies and render accurate written summaries.

* Complete and close out all procedures in the computer system daily.
* Participate in on-call schedule as department needs. Must respond to initial call back within 30 minutes and arrive at hospital within 45 minutes
* Demonstrate the ability to assist the radiologist in arthrograms, myelograms, lumbar punctures, and any other invasive procedures.
* Demonstrate the ability to assess film quality and make corrections when necessary.

Basic Requirement for a Diagnostic Radiologic Technologist :
Radiology Certification: Public Law 97-35 requires that persons who administer radiologic procedures meet the credentialing standards in 42 CFR Part 75. Essentially, they must (1) have successfully completed an educational program that meets or exceeds the standards described in that regulation, and is accredited by an organization recognized by the Department of Education, and (2) be certified as radiographers in their field. The following meet these requirements:
(1) Persons employed by the Federal Government as radiologic personnel prior to the effective date of the regulation (January 13, 1986) who show evidence of current or fully satisfactory performance or certification of such from a licensed practitioner such as a doctor of medicine, osteopathy, dentistry, podiatry, or chiropractic who prescribes radiologic procedures to others.
(2) Persons first employed by the Federal Government as radiologic personnel after the effective date of the regulation who (a) received training from institutions in a State or foreign jurisdiction that did not accredit training in that particular field at the time of graduation, or (b) practiced in a State or foreign jurisdiction that did not license that particular field or did not allow special eligibility to take a licensure examination for those who did not graduate from an accredited educational program, provided that such persons show evidence of training, experience, and competence as determined by OPM or the employing agency.
In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below:
Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes performing mammography radiographic examinations and performing quality assurance procedures. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-06).

Education: One full year of graduate level education in a field directly related to the work of the position, such as Diagnostic Radiology/ Mammography
OR
Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) by 18. Add the two percentages.

Goal
This is a technical position to operate diagnostic ultrasound equipment and perform ultrasound procedures on various anatomical internal organs, peripheral vessels, fluid accumulations, masses and developing fetuses. To report preliminary findings, measurements and diagnoses to the Radiologist. To record scanned ultrasound images and transfer to PACS for interpretation after checking image quality. In addition to scanning, the duties include chart review, maintaining data logs as required. Sonographers are expected to provide clinical information pertinent to the exams performed for the Radiologist.
Position Responsibilities:
Demonstrate the ability to perform quality and timely routine diagnostic ultrasound studies and render accurate written summaries.
Demonstrate the ability to perform quality vascular studies.
Participate in the care of the equipment by proper usage and storage of the probes, and maintaining the cleanliness of equipment.
Complete and close out all procedures in the computer system daily.
Participate in on-call schedule as department needs. Must respond to initial call back within 30 minutes and arrive at hospital within 45 minutes
Demonstrate the ability to assist the radiologist in arthrograms, myelograms, lumbar punctures, and any other invasive procedures.
Demonstrate the ability to assess film quality and make corrections when necessary.
Provides support and perform duties in any department as deemed necessary
Experience: Six months of formal training that includes hands on clinical applications
Education: Graduate of an approved school for Diagnostic Ultrasound with a minimum of 6 months formal training in Ultrasound preferred.

Required:
Must have or be eligible for Registry in Abdomen and OB ultrasound.
Registry required within 2 years.
BLS certification required
Preferred:
Vascular registry preferred.
Proficient in all areas of diagnostic ultrasound. ARDMS preferred.
