Here are the ten hottest job markets in South Carolina.

These cities represent the top ten locations for job seekers in South Carolina. Scroll down for a more detailed explanation of how we arrived at these rankings. Is your city not in the top 10? Keep reading to find out where it stands on the complete list.

How We Determined the Best Job Markets in South Carolina

We utilized the latest data from the Census American Community Survey to analyze metropolitan areas across South Carolina, focusing only on cities with a civilian workforce of over 5,000.

While the unemployment rate is a significant indicator of the local job market, it is just one facet of a more complex picture. Thus, we conducted a comprehensive analysis to pinpoint the best job markets in South Carolina.

Each metro area was evaluated on a scale from 1 to 34 across four key categories:

  • Unemployment Rate
  • Change in Unemployment Rate
  • Household Income Change
  • Current Average Household Income

A lower score in each category signifies a stronger job market. For instance, the James Island area boasted the lowest unemployment rate at 1.8%, securing its top position in that category. The scores from all four categories were averaged to generate our final rankings. The overall list ranks the 34 metro areas from 1 to 34; once more, lower scores reflect more favorable job markets.
