About Us
At AppLovin, we're powering the future of product discovery and engagement through cutting-edge machine learning. Recommender systems quietly shape the daily lives of billions of people - deciding what we watch, read, play, and buy. They don't just influence culture; they drive trillions of dollars in market value across ads, commerce, and streaming, fueling economic growth and job creation worldwide, and the space is still growing at double-digit rates annually.
The modern recommendation stack was established about a decade ago, but we believe the next era of models will look fundamentally different. We're assembling a research team dedicated to shaping that future.
The Opportunity
We're creating a world-class academic-industrial hybrid research group to advance recommender systems. Unlike academia, your work won't live only in papers - it will be deployed into real products, used by millions, and validated at scale. This is your chance to push the science forward and see your ideas transform how the world discovers content.
What You'll Do
* Drive foundational research to create new recommendation models and paradigms.
* Leverage rich live user data and large-scale compute to validate models rapidly.
* Collaborate closely with engineering and product teams to operationalize research.
* Publish findings and contribute to the broader ML and RecSys community.
Benefits of Research in Industry
* Rich real-time data: access to large-scale, diverse, and dynamic user interactions.
* Massive compute & infrastructure: GPU clusters, feature stores, deployment pipelines.
* Rapid experimentation: immediate feedback through A/B testing and online evaluation.
* Direct impact: see your models shape user experiences and business outcomes.
* Cross-disciplinary collaboration: partner with product, design, and engineering teams.
* Balanced path: combine scientific exploration with practical deployment.
Who You Are
We're looking for rising researchers with strong academic backgrounds and a desire to have real-world impact.
Minimum Qualifications
* PhD (or equivalent research experience) in CS, ML, Statistics, or related field.
* Strong background in deep learning.
* Proven track record of research excellence (publications, awards, impactful projects).
* Proficiency in Python and modern ML frameworks (PyTorch).
* Experience with large-scale data and experimentation.
Nice to Have
* Publications in top venues (NeurIPS, ICML, ICLR, KDD, RecSys, SIGIR, WWW).
* Experience with sequential modeling, representation learning, or causal inference.
* Knowledge of online experimentation and evaluation methodologies.
* Industry experience deploying ML in production systems.
What You'll Gain
* The opportunity to shape the next generation of recommendation science.
* A research culture that combines academic rigor with industrial scale.
* Access to world-class infrastructure and live experimentation loops.
* A collaborative environment that rewards both innovation and execution.

We are a group of research scientists and engineers building cutting edge technology at the intersection of machine learning and adtech. The core of our work is focused on:
Building ads delivery systems that deliver the most relevant products to users and drive business results.
Processing and handling tens of billions of rows of data per day, and processing one million requests per second.
Integrating tabular, text, image, and video data into a cohesive system to improve ads delivery.
Running large-scale A/B tests to measure results.
Why Applovin?
Our team has a consistent track record of driving business impact through technology - building one of the world's highest-performing ads recommendation systems and fueling Applovin's ~25x business growth over the last 2+ years. At Applovin, the feedback loop for Research Scientists is exceptionally fast. You can develop a new model, launch an A/B test, and ship it - all within days or weeks. What might take months or even years elsewhere happens here at the pace of your execution.
Even as we've scaled, our pace hasn't slowed - we continue to ship meaningful improvements that move the needle, and there's still enormous opportunity for the right candidate to make an immediate impact and further our business growth. Despite the size of our business, we operate with a remarkably efficient engineering team - fewer than 100 engineers power everything we build, which means every individual has outsized responsibility, autonomy, and influence.
If that kind of fast-paced, high-impact environment excites you, we're looking for teammates eager to solve hard problems and drive meaningful business results from day one.
About you:
A good candidate generally has:
Experience working with state of the art Machine Learning/Deep Learning models to solve hard problems.
Strong programming skills in Python and experience with Deep Learning frameworks (preferably PyTorch).
Strong mathematical skills, and the ability to understand and interpret data.
The drive to want to make an impact on the company you work for.
It's a bonus if you have:
Experience working with large datasets and distributed computing frameworks.
Strong C++ or Java programming ability in addition to Python.
Prior experience working with recommendation models specifically.

Overview:
We are looking for a Lead Product Designer to take full ownership of a new product initiative, managing the complete 0-to-1 design lifecycle. This person will be responsible for shaping the design vision, structuring and organizing the design workflow, and coordinating with cross-functional teams to bring the product from concept to launch.
This designer will operate as a solo designer in the early stages of the project. Therefore, they must be multidisciplinary - capable of balancing strong product design expertise with strategic thinking, light project management, and a hands-on approach across different design domains (brand, marketing, UX research, and visual communication).
This role requires a designer who can represent the design discipline at a project level, maintaining a high bar for visual quality and user experience, while effectively communicating with PMs, engineers, and executives. The ideal candidate is confident yet humble, understanding that while they'll lead the design workstream, they remain part of a broader organizational design culture.
Key Responsibilities:
Drive end-to-end design initiatives, from problem definition and discovery to final product delivery.
Plan, prioritize, and structure design tasks and activities in collaboration with PMs and other stakeholders.
Contribute to product strategy through visual storytelling, prototyping, and user-centric thinking.
Being able to cover marketing, brand, and research functions to ensure consistency and coherence across touchpoints.
Represent the design discipline in cross-functional discussions, ensuring design excellence throughout the process.
Maintain hands-on involvement in both conceptual and executional phases.
Required Experience:
Proven experience leading 0-to-1 product launches, ideally as the main or solo designer on early-stage projects or successful startups.
Strong project management mindset, able to plan, prioritize, and communicate effectively without overlapping with PM responsibilities.
Experience working on B2B or consumer-facing platforms with a multimedia or social
component.
Background in or exposure to companies with strong visual and interactive standards.
Demonstrated ability to combine strategic thinking with high-quality visual design execution.
Excellent visual and interaction design skills.
Strong conceptual and analytical thinking, with the ability to connect design work to measurable impact.
Excellent communication and collaboration skills - able to represent design across multiple disciplines.
Ability to work autonomously while keeping alignment with broader company goals.
Hands-on attitude with comfort across UX, visual, motion, and brand design.
Previous experience mentoring or guiding other designers is a plus.
Location:
Preferred: United States (any major hub).
The candidate must be open to medium-to-long term relocation to Singapore and subsequent travel as needed.
