Job DescriptionDescription: The Philadelphia Outward Bound School Apprenticeship is an entry-level field position that provides hands-on training, mentorship, and real-world experience in outdoor education. Apprentices will follow a varied schedule designed to ensure a well-rounded experience, including at least two weeks in Challenge Course Programming, one week in Wilderness Expedition course delivery, and a minimum of three weeks focused on program logistics. The schedule is structured to develop the skills necessary for a Seasonal Instructor role, including facilitating wilderness expeditions, challenge course programs, logistics, and team-building experiences, all aligned with Outward Bound's mission. Our Apprenticeship is a 10- to 12-week program designed to provide Apprentices with the training and skills necessary to be an Instructor. Upon successful completion of the Apprenticeship, individuals will likely move into a Seasonal Instructor position. Because it takes time to develop and hone the skills needed to work in this field, we strongly suggest and ask for a two-year commitment from our Instructors. POBS is excited to invest in individuals who demonstrate commitment to our mission and, most importantly, to our students! Must obtain Criminal and Child Abuse clearances for Pennsylvania prior to employment. Able to work irregular hours as necessary including the ability to work weekends as assigned. Previous experience in outdoor recreation, education, leadership, or youth programs is preferred but not required. They utilize chemical manufacturing knowledge and experience to operate and troubleshoot the plant in a safe and efficient manner. Primary Responsibilities and Key Skills: Routine operation of basic control systems and devices to monitor levels, temperatures, pressures and flow rates, and transfer of products. Controlling, monitoring and adjustment of all control systems and manually operated equipment. Properly lifting hoses, bolt flanges and operate valves and similar equipment including the proper clearing and isolation of equipment. Following operating discipline, procedures, and practices to ensure a safe and efficient operation of assigned duties. Troubleshoot process, product quality, safety, and environmental problems, and identify equipment requiring maintenance. How to perform maintenance and project work safely and efficiently. Clearing and tagging equipment as required and issuing Safe Work Permits for maintenance and project work. Performing all duties with a high degree of dedication to safety and environmental stewardship. Instrument Electrical Technician Instrument Electrical Technicians install, maintain and repair the measuring and control instruments used in industrial processing. They work with a wide variety of pneumatic, electronic and microcomputer instruments used to measure and control variables such as pressure, flow, temperature, level, motion, force, and chemical composition to support the process plants. Primary Responsibilities and Key Skills Maintaining and repairing all types of instrument systems. Troubleshooting, diagnosing, and replacing defective components on instrumentation. Reading electrical, logic, and loop diagrams. Electronic troubleshooting and repair skills. Procedure use - this includes field use, review, revision, and development of procedures. Millwright/Mechanical Technician Millwright/Mechanical Technicians install, maintain, troubleshoot and repair process and mechanical equipment used in industrial processing. The mechanical equipment may include ANSI (American National Standards Institute) pumps, various types of compressors, blowers, fans, gearboxes, mixers and agitators. Primary Responsibilities and Key Skills Maintaining and repairing all types of mechanical equipment. Troubleshooting, diagnosing, and replacing defective equipment parts. Reading blueprints and design drawings. Mechanical troubleshooting and repair skills. Procedure use - this includes field use, review, revision, and development of procedures. Qualifications Educational Requirements A minimum of a High School Diploma or GED is required. Individuals who are currently enrolled in high school or college or have graduated or received a GED within the last two years will be required to provide official transcripts/GED scores prior to being invited to an onsite interview. Must have completed Algebra or Technical Math and Science coursework in High School, per graduation requirements. Completion of Chemistry and / or Physics coursework in High School is preferred. After an offer of employment, but prior to date of hire, must complete college entrance exams / assessments at the community college to be attended. Must not be required to take any remedial or transitional coursework. If already enrolled in the degree program related to the field you applied for or have credits that would transfer toward it, individual must have no less than 2 full semesters remaining toward the applicable degree. The Monell Science Apprenticeship Program (MSAP) is looking for highly motivated high school and undergraduate students in the greater Philadelphia area (including Camden) for an eight-week intensive paid internship that provides the opportunity to directly participate in basic research. Our mission is to mentor students in biomedical science and our program was named one of the top 25 pre-college summer programs for learning science by Best College Reviews. We have a special interest in providing this opportunity to students who are from groups typically under-represented in the sciences, including veterans, women, individuals with disabilities, individuals from ethnic and racially marginalized groups, and from low-income households. Students with no prior experience conducting research are highly encouraged to apply. The Monell Center is a basic research institute furthering scientific discovery on the chemical senses (taste and smell). Each summer, we offer a group of approximately twenty students the unique opportunity to work alongside our scientists in a paid apprenticeship and to learn more about careers in research - a true apprenticeship experience! APPRENTICE TECHNICIAN We are seeking a motivated and reliable Apprentice Technician to join our dynamic team in the HVAC, Refrigeration, and Commercial Kitchen Equipment Repair industry. As an apprentice, you will gain hands-on experience, learn essential technical skills, and work alongside skilled professionals to become proficient in servicing, installing, and maintaining HVAC systems, refrigeration units, gas, steam, and electric. This individual must show growth within six months to one year before moving on to junior technician status. The Apprentice will be evaluated every three months and rotate between technicians to ensure diverse training.
