If selected, you will receive training in law enforcement concepts by attending a sponsored POST Academy to prepare for an assignment in our detention facility. After certification in the academy, this position will focus on enforcing laws, rules and regulations and following the procedures of the Arapahoe County Sheriff's Office Detention Facility. This will include areas such as booking, prisoner care, security and transportation. This is an appointed position that works at the pleasure of the Sheriff. After successful completion of the POST Academy, you must successfully complete a one year assignment in the Detention Facility before being eligible to assess for patrol.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

JOB-RELATED CONTACTS:
Contacts with any individual of the public, an inmate or arrestee, supervisors, and co-workers occurs on a daily basis. Gives and receives a variety of non-routine information requiring direction and extensive knowledge of State statutes, agency procedures and functions.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Work is performed in circumstances involving hazards such as crimes, accidents, fires, and disturbances which may be threatening to life or cause bodily harm. Work environment becomes extremely stressful during peak activity periods demanding full attention and coordination of numerous tasks simultaneously required. Personal contact with any individual of the public, an inmate, or arrestee occurs on a daily basis. This position requires physical contact of touching, controlling, sitting by, as well as the examining of an individual's extremities, and body cavities. Hand-to-hand exchanges and face-to-face verbal communications between the member and the public is required on a constant basis. This position may require immediate response to medical emergencies where blood, body fluids, or other medical hazards may be present. The member may or may not have time to take precautionary and protective measures. May be assigned to work schedules requiring work on rotating shifts, weekends, and holidays.

401(a) DEFINED BENEFIT RETIREMENT PLAN:
Arapahoe County Sheriff's Office employees participate in a mandatory defined benefit program designed to help employees establish a source of income for retirement years. Through the Plan, eligible employees set aside 9.00% of their salary on a pretax basis of which the County matches at 9.75%. The County also contributes 6.2% to Social Security.

EXPECTED DURATION OF THE APPLICATION PROCESS:

WORK SCHEDULES:

DUTY ASSIGNMENTS:

INITIAL STATUS PERIOD OF EMPLOYMENT:

The Victim Compensation Specialist acts as an advocate for victims by performing a variety of limited investigative and clerical functions to assist with the processing of victim compensation applications.
**DUTIES:**
+ Solicits, organizes, and reviews information pertaining to Victim Compensation for the effective disposition of claims applications; retrieves information from Action on case status and charges; determines eligibility of victim compensation claims; enforces board policies and procedures; assures compliance of claims with statute regulations; verifies accuracy of bills and calculates claims reviewed by the Victim Comp Board.
+ Performs clerical functions necessary to expedite the Victim Compensation process; routine telephone and/or personal contact with crime victims and service providers to provide accurate and up-to-date information, to answer questions regarding the criminal justice system, or to refer to other agencies if appropriate; organizes and opens new claims, closes files upon case completion; prepares restitution requests for repayment to the Fund, enforces subrogation agreements between victim and board; composes correspondence regarding compensation status and additional information requests, and mails out checks awarded to victims.
+ Acts as an advocate for victims to minimize the negative impact of the Criminal Justice System and to educate them with court processes, (e.g. administrative hearings and restitution hearings). May testify at court restitution hearings to represent Victim Compensation to receive restitution. Sets agenda for Victim Compensation Board meetings; summarizes and presents victim claim reports to the board members at monthly meetings.
+ Oversees the entire invoicing process, to include; reviews, verifies, and processes invoices submitted by victim services providers to ensure accuracy, enters invoice details into the financial system and maintain up-to-date records, reconciles invoice discrepancies and resolve issues, maintains comprehensive documentation of all invoice transactions and correspondence and ensures that all invoicing practices adhere to organizational policies, legal requirements, and funding regulations.
**Victim Compensation / VALE Board Specialist**
**Victim Compensation and VALE Program Management:**
+ Review, screen, and process Victim Compensation applications, including obtaining necessary documentation, verifying information, and preparing concise summaries for review.
+ Maintain accurate and up-to-date records in Open Caseware, including data entry, file management, and closure of cases.
+ Liaise with law enforcement, service providers, and other stakeholders to gather information, verify claims, and ensure proper billing and payment processing.

The Emergency Services Unit (ESU) is part of the Operations Division of the Boulder County Sheriff's Office under the Special Operations section. ESU addresses the Sheriff's statutory responsibilities outside the typical law enforcement arena. Those areas include Search and Rescue, Hazmat, and other emergency services field work. The on-call requirement for the ESU position is the most demanding aspect of the job. **GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF JOB:**
Performs unskilled and semi-skilled highway and other road and street maintenance duties either manually or through a variety of hand tools and equipment. Performs flagging duties. Performs snow shift assignments during the winter season. Work is performed in a high-performing, team-oriented environment with a commitment to quality results.
**DUTIES:**
+ Performs manual labor duties requiring the use of hand tools such as shovels, picks, rakes, chain saws, axes, hand saws, power drills, post hole diggers, up to a 90-pound jack hammer, cutting weeds, push mowers, weed eaters, side of roadways trash pickup, etc.
+ Performs the duties of a certified flagger within construction zones to control pedestrian and vehicle traffic by flagging and/or properly placing barricades. Assists with traffic control set up and removal at the start and end of each shift.
+ Plows or removes snow from streets and other public thoroughfares, loads deicing material into trucks, and spreads deicing material onto the roadway with tandem axle truck. Works on an on-call basis for winter storm duty and other emergency conditions. Shiftwork for snowstorms and other emergency events may require 12-hour shifts or longer based on the severity of the storm/event.
+ May operate equipment such as skid steer, asphalt patch roller, forklift, plate tamper, asphalt slab saw, hand mower, woodchipper, thermal applicator for durable paint markings, and follow/chase truck for long line roadway painting.
+ After receiving appropriate training and obtaining CDL class "B" driver's license, operates tandem axle dump truck with snowplow, asphalt patch truck, hauls materials (gravel, asphalt, concrete, chips, etc.) in tandem axle dump truck.
+ Trains or operates under direct supervision on the proper use of Road Maintenance Technician II equipment such as highway mower, mini excavator, large asphalt roller, street sweeper, small front end loader, class "A" CDL vehicles, semi tractor trailer, semi tanker trailer, asphalt paver screed, skid steer attachments (mill, broom, stump grinder), soil compactor, paint gun operation for long line roadway painting, and sign making printer, cutter, and computer software. Occasionally performs these duties as an on-the-job developmental/training opportunity and when operational needs dictate.
+ Performs preparation and patching of damaged roadways with various asphalt materials. This work includes shoveling, raking, and compacting of the asphalt. May clean storm drains or perform other drainage/construction maintenance activities as necessary.
+ Properly maintains all assigned equipment. Performs daily pre- and post-equipment inspections to ensure that proper fluid levels, air pressure, and the overall safety and cleanliness of equipment is maintained at all times. Conducts CDL inspections on required vehicles according to Federal standards.

* Physical Demands: This position works in an office setting and is also regularly onsite at BCHA properties. **GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF JOB:**
Performs skilled mechanical and technical work and preventive maintenance of light, medium-duty and heavy trucks, earth moving equipment, construction equipment, agricultural tractors, snowplows, dump trucks, variable message boards, mowers, paint truck and anything else required by County personnel.
**DUTIES:**
+ Use electrical diagnostic and mechanically calibrated equipment to make adjustments and repairs to fuel, ignition, and emission systems to bring them within manufacturer's specifications.
+ Prepare interim records of work performed and parts used on all equipment repaired. Use County computer system to prepare records of work performed and parts used on all County equipment repaired.
+ Mount, balance, repair, and replace tires ranging from automotive to heavy equipment tires.
+ Operate gas or arc welding equipment, a variety of hand and small power tools, a metal press and/or a metal lathe to repair and/or fabricate parts and tools necessary to maintain County vehicles.
+ Perform both minor and major preventative maintenance
+ Make safety inspections on any/all County road equipment.
+ Performs diagnosis and repairs in the field.
**REQUIREMENTS:**
Skills, Abilities, and Competencies:
+ Knowledge of the techniques and procedures related to the repair and maintenance of gasoline and diesel engines and the tools and equipment required for that repair.
+ Skill in recognizing and reporting faulty and abnormally functioning diesel and gasoline-powered equipment, hydraulic systems, tires, tubes, and wheels.
+ Knowledge of and ability to use computerized inventory and fleet management software.
+ In-depth knowledge of safety hazards and necessary safety precautions sufficient to be able to establish a safe work environment for self and others.

Education and Experience:
+ High School Diploma or GED equivalent is required. Vocational courses in automotive or heavy truck mechanics highly desirable
+ A minimum of three (3) years' experience in truck or heavy equipment repair
+ A combination of education and experience may be considered
Pre-Employment Additional Requirements:
+ Must successfully pass pre-employment testing, which includes an acceptable motor vehicle record (MVR) check, background check, drug screen, and physical capabilities test.
+ Must possess a valid Class "R" Driver's License upon appointment
Post-Employment Requirements:
+ The position is deemed essential, and incumbents must be available for winter storm and other emergency events and available to work on an on-call on a rotation basis which requires evening, holidays and weekends.
+ Work locations and facilities are subject to change based on business needs.
+ Must complete and maintain five ASE certifications throughout employment. ASE Air Conditioning Certification, ASE Suspension & Steering Certification, ASE Electrical/ Electronic Systems Certification, and ASE T4 Medium/ Heavy Truck Brake Certification must be obtained within six (6) months of appointment. A fifth ASE certification must be obtained within one (1) year of appointment.
+ Heavy Equipment Mechanics only - Possession of a valid Class "A" Commercial Driver's License or the ability to obtain one within twelve (24) months of appointment. HAZMAT endorsement is highly desirable.
**WORK ENVIRONMENT:**
Position may require work to be performed in the field as well as the shop, thus exposing incumbents to all weather conditions, fumes, smoke, and high noise levels and potentially dangerous working conditions.
