JOB SUMMARY The faculty in the School of Physical Therapy is responsible for educating entry-level physical therapy professionals pursing a Doctor of Physical Therapy degree. The faculty engages in scholarly activities contributing to the school's agenda and advancing the profession. The faculty provides service to the school, university, and professional communities. In all areas, the faculty contributes to the advancement of ACHE's mission. (Rank will be determined by qualifications and experience). ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES Support the mission, vision and goals of the College and School of Physical Therapy. Teach courses as assigned in the faculty member's area of expertise. Maintain and develop teaching effectiveness in accordance with school's standards. Adhere to accreditation standards. Provide advisement with students in accordance with school's standards. Contribute to program and curriculum development and assessment appropriate for rank criteria. Meet administrative deadlines such as those for submitting course syllabi, student course evaluations, grades, and program evaluation data. Develop and maintain a scholarship agenda in accordance with schools and accreditation standards. Actively engage in service to the School, College, Community and/ or Profession. Participate actively in assignments necessary to advance the service and/or outreach missions of the school. Demonstrate collegial relationships with colleagues, supervisors, support staff, and students. Demonstrate the highest standard of professionalism and ethical behavior in all aspects of personal and professional actions and performance. Maintain and uphold a professional development plan that advances the College and School and is consistent with accreditation requirements and rank criteria. Requirements QUALIFICATIONS AND CREDENTIALS Education and Experience Minimum Qualifications Post-professional doctoral degree awarded by an institution that is accredited by a USDE-recognized regional accrediting body. Demonstrated contemporary expertise in an area of teaching responsibility and knowledge of content delivery method (e.g. documentation of continuing professional development, relevant experience, faculty development plan reflecting acquisition of new content, incorporation of feedback from course evaluations). Demonstrated (or potential to demonstrate) ongoing scholarly achievement and research expertise. Expertise necessary to ensure appropriate curriculum design, content delivery, and program evaluation. Preferred Education and Experience Terminal academic degree (PhD, EdD, DSc) highly desirable. Licensed as a physical therapist or eligible for license by the Arkansas State Board of Physical Therapy. Professional Doctoral degree and advanced clinical certification such as OCS, NCS, PCS, SCS or FAAOMPT also highly desired. Two years prior teaching experience at the graduate level. Demonstrated leadership and productivity in the areas of clinical or professional service, scholarly activity, and/or physical therapy education. Required knowledge, skills, and abilities Demonstrate a breadth and depth of knowledge in an area(s) of physical therapy education, practice, and/or research appropriate for rank. Demonstrate knowledge and skill in the delivery of physical therapy education in the classroom/laboratory and in practice settings for students. Demonstrate knowledge of varied educational delivery formats. Demonstrate ability to mentor students. Demonstrate leadership, organizational, and time management skills. Display professionalism for the university in all communication and interaction. Ability to maintain confidentiality and privacy. Ability to prioritize and organize numerous and varied assignments. About The Position The Foundational Science Educator, Pathology is a full-time, non-tenure position. This individual will work as part of an interdisciplinary team to ensure students receive broad-based training experience. Foundational sciences are interwoven throughout all four years of the curriculum. The ideal candidate will have a history of teaching excellence in medical education and work well with colleagues across the respective and relevant phases. This position will collaborate with other clinical and basic science faculty for the development of clinical cases to emphasize basic science foundational concepts and will participate in the development and review of formative and summative assessment items. The ideal Pathology candidate should have experience in multiple disciplines with clinical relevance including: Pathology Histopathology Pathophysiology Cellular Biology Faculty and staff members will contribute to the development and rollout of the ARCHES curriculum, which is built on evidence-based approaches to teaching and learning. It includes the following six core elements which will be interwoven throughout the four-year curriculum: Art of Healing Research Clinical Health Systems Science Embracing Whole Health Science of Medicine . Essential Duties and Responsibilities Develop Curriculum - oversee the development and integration of all content tied to the pathology and the relevant pathology elements, including the development of clinically relevant narratives and various assessment tools including, but not limited to, NBME-style multiple-choice questions and assessment of student performance in active learning sessions. Teach / Instruct / Facilitate - actively engage in student instruction, developing and delivering content using active learning methodologies. Collaborate with faculty colleagues to create, deliver, and pre-record flipped classroom content. Facilitate small and large group active learning; serve as facilitator for small group discussion such as in case-based learning, and other small group sessions. Assess / Evaluate - create learning objectives related to respective foundational sciences and map them to the curriculum. Use appropriate metrics and assessment methods to ensure that students meet those objectives. Work collaboratively with faculty and staff for continuous quality improvement of courses, sessions, activities, and assessments. Participate in professional development programs to enhance teaching, educational and other skills needed to execute their responsibilities. Actively participate in leadership and group membership within the medical school (e.g., Curriculum Committee, Admissions Committee, etc.). Other duties as assigned. Qualifications and Requirements Doctoral degree (MD, DO, PhD, MD/PhD, ScD, MBBS, or equivalent) with specific ACGME residency training in pathology, required. Greater than two (2) years of experience in an accredited undergraduate medical education or post graduate level education programs with concentration in pathology or closely related field, required. Demonstrated experience and expertise in medical education, including curriculum development, formulating and editing assessment tools, and delivery in the field of pathology, required. Proficiency in medical pathology, preferred. Clinical pathology experience, preferred. Experience designing, delivering, and evaluating integrated foundational science courses, preferred. Familiarity with an array of educational technologies and active learning methodologies, preferred. Experience with different assessment methods, preferred. The Dental Assisting Program Director will oversee the administration, curriculum development, accreditation compliance, and day-to-day operations of the Dental Assisting program at Northwest Arkansas Community College. The Director will ensure the program meets academic and professional standards, fosters student success, and prepares graduates for a rewarding career in dental assisting. Essential Duties: Program Leadership and Management: Develop, implement, and evaluate program curriculum to ensure compliance with the standards set by the Commission on Dental Accreditation (CODA) and other relevant accrediting bodies. Lead the program through accreditation processes, including self-studies, site visits, and continuous improvement. Manage program budget, resources, and scheduling to support program objectives. Collaborate with college administration, faculty, and advisory committees to align program goals with institutional priorities. Teaching and Student Support: Teach courses in the Dental Assisting program, as needed, ensuring high-quality instruction and student engagement. Advise and mentor students regarding academic progress, career planning, and licensure requirements. Facilitate student learning experiences, including laboratory sessions and clinical rotations. Develop course curriculum, course handouts, lectures, labs, and presentations. Participate in program level learning assessment. Participation includes helping articulate learning outcomes, choosing and administering measures, evaluating student performance, and suggesting changes to improve student learning. Work with other faculty and administrators in developing program curriculum, standards, and policies, including reviewing and participating in textbook selection process where appropriate. Schedule, supervise, debrief, and evaluate students in clinical, internship, observation, field experience, and similar settings as appropriate for the course or program. Be available to students via email, phone, or personal conferences. The method of contact and hours of availability should be clearly communicated to supervisors and to students through the course syllabus each semester. Assign grades and maintain course/student records in accordance with FERPA regulations and submit grades and records by established deadlines. Meet all classes and other scheduled responsibilities such as office hours and meetings at the designated times. A faculty member should inform the supervisor if he or she is unable to meet a class on time. Keep a flexible weekly schedule that best facilitates student learning and access. Any changes in the scheduled class times or locations should have prior approval by the faculty's supervisor. Examples of the various ways faculty keep flexible schedules to accommodate student learning from week to week could include: Late night or early morning preparation of lab materials or activities. Organizing, rehearsing, and hosting musical or dramatic performances or other events. Arranging and conducting on-site clinical or internship experiences. Planning and supervising field trips. Keeping weekend and/or late night online office hours or online discussions. Conducting special review sessions outside of scheduled class times. Accommodating student make-up work Spending extended periods grading exams or assignments to allow prompt feedback to students. Participate in faculty evaluation process. Remain current in academic or program discipline, including attending professional conferences, and maintaining licensure, certification, or continuing education requirements where appropriate. Community and Industry Engagement: Maintain relationships with local dental practices, professional organizations, and community stakeholders to ensure program relevance and to secure clinical placement opportunities. Represent the program and college at local, state, and national meetings related to dental education. Compliance and Reporting: Ensure program compliance with state, federal, and institutional policies and regulations. Prepare and submit required reports, such as accreditation updates, program outcomes, and licensure pass rates. Monitor and maintain program records, including student achievements and employer satisfaction surveys. College Activities: Participate in college professional development activities. Help students achieve their educational goals through formal and/or informal advising. Qualifications: Minimum Qualifications: A Ph.D. in Sociology, Criminology, Criminal Justice or a closely related social science discipline from an accredited institution of higher education Evidence of the ability to contribute to departmental programmatic needs in criminology Evidence of an active research agenda and scholarly productivity in criminology Demonstrated potential of developing an externally funded program of research Evidence of the ability to contribute to the teaching and mentoring missions of the department Preferred Qualifications: Expertise in one or more of the following: the etiology of crime, neighborhoods and crime, geospatial and temporal data analytics, and/or data visualization techniques A record of research achievement as evidenced by publications in peer-reviewed outlets, with an emphasis on those in the departmental strength area of criminology A record of contributing to, pursuing, or securing external funding for research Demonstrated ability to develop effective undergraduate and/or graduate courses Experience mentoring undergraduate and/or graduate students. Evidence of the ability to contribute to one or more of the other departmental strength areas of community, inequality/stratification, and health Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities (KSAs): Strong communication and interpersonal skills Additional Information: About the Department The Department is a dynamic, productive, collegial, and student success-oriented unit in Fulbright College of Arts and Sciences. The Department offers undergraduate degrees in Sociology and Criminology, and an M.A. in Sociology, and affiliation with three research units: the Center for Social Research, Community and Family Institute, and the Terrorism Research Center.
