Job Summary
Under the supervision of a registered nurse and in collaboration with other members of a multidisciplinary team provides treatment to patients with mental illness.
1. Provides one-to-one interaction with patients.
2. Assists in educational sessions, facilitates task oriented sessions; e.g. Community Meeting.
3. Assists with the patient intake, admission and discharge processes including but not limited to collection of objective data and patients unit orientation.
4. Performs patient, body and property searches, and secures patient property.
5. Participates in patient care conferences and treatment-planning meetings as requested. Observe patients at risk for dangerous behavior (suicidal, self mutilation or aggression towards others). Performs and documents patient and environmental rounds.
6. Obtains vital signs, performs specimen collection (e.g. blood draws, urine collection), diagnostic testing, (e.g. ECG, breathalyzer) and assists with physical examinations as needed.
7. Assists patients with activities of daily living e.g. eating, dressing, bathing and laundry.
8. Monitors and documents patient observations, 1:1 interactions, intervention/actions taken, and the patients response to interventions provided by the Mental Health Technician.
9. Completes court petitions, accompanies patients to court and testifies to substantiate the need for court ordered treatment. Communicates status of court activity to professional staff.
10. Assists professional staff with restraint and seclusion as needed.
11. Performs routine clerical functions e.g. answering phones, and computer input and retrieval of information, ordering and stocking unit equipment and supplies, generating and distributing reports, updating unit census and other informational boards.
12. Ensures that patient care equipment is clean and in good working order.
13. Promotes guest relations. Anticipates and responds to needs of others. Provides assistance in a quick and courteous manner.
14. Treats others with care and respect while maintaining privacy, confidentiality and dignity.
15. Maintains a professional appearance and a clean, safe environment. 16. Performs other related duties as assigned by management.
1. One year of college study in behavioral health or equivalent combination of education and experience in an adult mental health setting AND one year of related clinical experience working with mentally ill patients; OR Associates degree in psychology, social work or a human service discipline.
2. Successful completion of annual recipient rights training, physical management in-service and demonstration, maintains active CPR certification.

Assist rehab staff in implementation of behavior protocols that are developed by the BCBA.
Assist in novel data collection, making observations and documenting client behaviors and trends.
Provide relevant corrective reinforcement and praise, for both clients and staff as appropriate. Feedback for staff would be specifically related to their implementation of Behavior Protocols.
Model appropriate, professional, and compassionate behavior for both staff and clients.
BTs would be involved in increasing the staff's engagement with the clients. They will assist management with:
ensuring client engagement schedules are being followed including therapy attendance.
conduct daily observations on engagement and provide immediate feedback/praise when necessary.
teach and model staff when dealing with more difficult clients.
assist in more specific community access goals and interact directly with clients in the community when they are resistant or are otherwise underperforming in meeting their goals.
BTs would be responsible for responding to crisis situations during their shift and often responsible for managing and assessing the interventions of staff (e.g., QBS protocol).
While BTs will primarily be working with BCBAs, they will also be expected to work well within the multidisciplinary team. They will also need to communicate and work collaboratively with the Residential Unit Coordinators, Residential Supervisors, Program Coordinators, and clinicians of various disciplines (e.g., Occupational Therapists, Psychotherapists, Speech Therapists, Recreation Therapists, Health Educators, Dietician, Physical Therapists, etc.) depending on the client's programming.
BTs would work with clients on community transportation goals (e.g. cabbing, busing, and walking with them) and would help clients in developing their own social networks in the community. They would be available to provide pre-teaching, goal setting, and to provide feedback with the goal to significantly improve social skill sets and eventually increase their social networks outside of Eisenhower Center.
They would input Incident Reports for their units. Estimated 8-10 hours per week would be spent on data entry.
BTs would handle client incentives and assist in troubleshooting issues with incentive protocols.
BTs would work varied hours, highlighting their presence during B-shifts and weekends. There are a mix of BT schedules as the idea is to have coverage on the campus so that a BT is available if needed to assist managing crisis situations or difficult client behaviors.

Additional Requirements: CPR certification and Handle With Care (HWC) within 30 days of employment. Completion of additional mental health training within 30 days of employment. Must be at least 18 years of age. May be required to work flexible hours and overtime.

Zepf Center also offers primary care medical services to our patients to contribute to their continuum of care. Zepf Center is a trauma-informed agency and environment for both patients and staff.
We are currently seeking a full-time Mental Health Technician to try to stabilize the person and get him or her back into the community quickly. CSU stands for Crisis Stabilization Unit. Crisis Stabilization Units (CSU) are small inpatient facilities of less than 16 beds for people in a mental health crisis whose needs cannot be met safely in residential service settings. CSUs may be designed to admit on a voluntary or involuntary basis when the person needs a safe, secure environment less restrictive than a hospital. CSUs try to stabilize the person and get them back into the community quickly. This position will be for a CSU for individuals 18 years of age or older.
Hours: Three, 12-hour shifts; 8:00AM-8:00PM with rotating weekends and holidays
Essential Duties of this position include but are not limited to:
In collaboration with the Mental Health Professional/Health Officer, gathers collateral data at the scene and over the phone to help resolve crisis within the community.
Provides outreach service including crisis intervention;
Accompanies clinician health officers in pre-hospital screening with clients in the community.
Works with patient's primary psychiatrist/provider, case manager and/or counselor.
Facilitates the care of clients in consultation with the Mental Health Professional/Health Officer, patient's primary case manager, counselor or medical provider.
Makes phone calls and coordinates services.
Provides one-on-one assistance to clients and significant others or families, monitors behavior and mental status of clients at the crisis scene, and documents appropriate services in client charts.
Answers the Hotline, gathers collateral information and provides information and referrals to community services.
Run the intake board and coordinate outreach runs between emergency services, outreach, CACSU, CSU and Helpline
Transports clients to and from community sites as needed.
Works flexibly with other team members.
Attends agency and unit meetings, completes reports (e.g. contact sheets, shift reports, crisis alerts, etc.), and performing all necessary chart and telephone documentation in EHR in a timely manner.
Accurately document service provision and billing information to assure reimbursement.
Ensures competence and annual certification in the following areas: CPR and First Aid, and Crisis Intervention.
Ability to cross train in other crisis units, including CSU and Urgent Care.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Requirements
Working conditions: This position is in a 24-hour unit. Employee must be able to work scheduled weekends and perform emergency overtime if necessary pursuant to contract guidelines.
Must be eligible to be a qualified mental health specialist by Ohio Medicaid.
Bachelor's degree in a related field OR at least three years' work experience in mental health
Must possess a valid Ohio driver's license. Must be eligible to drive company vehicles and be eligible for coverage as defined by the agency commercial insurance carrier. Those who drive personal vehicles during business must be able to furnish proof of active auto insurance.
