Job Title: Coach/Bus Operator Apprentice Status: Represented - ATU 998 FLSA Status: Non-Exempt Department: Transportation Wage: $25.74 per hour Milwaukee County Transit System is seeking to hire Apprentices for the Coach/Bus Operator position. This is a State approved, one-year registered apprenticeship program, where you will receive classroom and hands-on training from experienced mentors. During the training period, Apprentices will obtain their CDL and learn all aspects of safely operating a passenger bus all while providing an essential service to the communities of Milwaukee County. As an Apprentice, you will learn to drive in a safe, efficient, and courteous manner while adhering to a pre-determined route and schedule. Other responsibilities include: Monitoring farebox to ascertain correct fare has been deposited, dispensing and collecting transfers. Filing a defect card daily, noting mechanical and body defects on vehicle. Reporting to dispatcher via radio any route detours, or whenever passengers might require assistance of police, medical or other services. Recording farebox readings and special passenger counts as required. Maintaining daily worksheet and completing accident/incident reports when necessary. Other duties as assigned or required. This position is subject to a Collective Bargaining Agreement. Qualifications: Must be at least 21 years of age and be able to obtain a valid class B Illinois Driver's License. Must have a good work history and a record of safe driving (5 years). Must successfully pass a training and route familiarization program. Essential Duties & Responsibilities Coordinates repairs of equipment. Communicate with customer to determine needs. Coordinate work with driver pool. Communicate with direct supervisor issues that may occur. Assist in scheduling. Drives truck to destination to meet customer requirements. Drive in a safe and efficient manner under all circumstances. Have knowledge of and compliance with company policy and all federal, state, local laws and regulations governing the operation of company equipment Inspects truck for defects before and after trips and submits report indicating truck condition.
