George Bloss Jr. settled in Atwater in 1844, at the age of 10 with his parents and sister, they were originally from the Connecticut area.
George S. Bloss, Sr. passed away in April 1930.
The school was closed in 1942 because treatment for tuberculosis had significantly changed and there were less children in the hospital.
In 1948, George Jr and Christine Bloss provided a second grant to build seven private rooms and a sun porch onto the hospital.
In 1957, the Bloss family with the assistance of a local attorney, Joseph Lebeda, saw fit to start a movement to turn the hospital into a District Hospital for the people of Atwater-Winton and the surrounding areas.
In 1968, volunteers from a local church formed one of the first early intervention programs in Los Angeles County, working with neighborhood families to maximize their young children's development and to provide support and networking opportunities.
In 1971, Christine Bloss passed away, which created the “George S. Bloss and Christine T. Bloss Trust”. The trust left specific instruction that the net income earned from the trust would be distributed annually.
In 1996, as a result of a Public Benefit Transfer, Castle Air Force Base Hospital was transferred to Bloss Memorial Healthcare District.
In 2009, Bloss Memorial Healthcare District partnered with US Dental Surgery Center, Inc in Stockton, for the operation of Children’s Dental Surgery Center.
In 2018 Bloss Memorial Healthcare District sold its interest in both the Central California Dental Surgery Center in Atwater and the Children’s Dental Surgery Center in Stockton.
