This is general law enforcement and public safety work in the protection of life and property and in the execution of orders issued through the authority of the City of Doral Police Department.
An employee in this classification may perform varied assignments in motorized patrol, traffic control and enforcement, accident investigation, preliminary and follow-up investigation at crime scenes, serving writs in criminal proceedings, and assisting in public safety education programs. Work involves an element of personal danger and high levels of physical, emotional, and mental stress to deal with people in various situations.

The role of Police Officer receives assignments from the superior officers who review work methods and results through reports, inspections, and discussions. Police Officers generally works one shift per 24-hour period, but will be subject to recall to on-duty status as the department warrants. In addition, Police Officers are required to respond to any emergency and/or criminal situation that they observe while off duty and function as a Police Officer until relieved by regular on-duty units.
This position requires to act without direct supervision and exercise independent judgment in meeting emergencies; situations often arise where the Police Officer will have the responsibility for making decisions regarding the use of deadly force in protecting citizens and themselves without the opportunity for prior supervisory advice or assistance.
Essential Functions:
* Patrols the City of Doral area in a radio equipped car or motorcycle to preserve law and order.

* Participates in underwater search and recovery missions, mobile crime laboratory investigations, undercover surveillance, civil defense exercises, rescue operations, marine patrol, and vice raids.
* Directs traffic at local schools as needed.

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND TRAINING
* For Certified Police Officers:
Employed in a full-time sworn classification by (or separated within preceding 24 months from) another police agency, possession of a Basic Recruit Certificate of Compliance from the State of Florida or its equivalent, completed probation with a Florida law enforcement agency, and one year of police experience; OR
* For those currently enrolled in Florida Basic Recruit Training (Police Academy): Applications will now be accepted, however in order for candidate to be hired, they must meet the minimum requirements of a Police Officer prior to receiving a start date, which include passing the Basic Abilities Test, Florida Basic Recruit Training Program and have achieved a passing score on the State Officer Certification Exam;

Introductory Period
An introductory period for an employee is twelve (12) months for entrance, rehire, and promotional appointments. In the event the employee accepts a promotional opportunity position within the City before an initial introductory period is satisfactorily completed, the initial introductory period starts over at the time the employee begins working in the new position.
The introductory period is considered a continuation of the employment selection process. It provides the City an opportunity to observe and evaluate the capacity of the employee, which includes the employee's ability to satisfactorily perform the essential functions of his or her job; and to observe and evaluate the employee's work habits and conduct, including attendance and the employee's relationship with coworkers and superiors.

Bereavement Leave
Upon approval of the Department Head, a full?time employee may, upon request, be granted up to three (3) working days of leave with pay in the unfortunate event of a death in his or her immediate family, or up to five (5) working days of leave with pay to attend the funeral or memorial services of an immediate family member outside the State of Florida. The employee's immediate family shall be defined as the employee's spouse, father, mother, step-parents, natural, step and adopted children, brother, sister, father-in-law, mother-in-law, grandparents, brother-in-law and sister-in-law, grandparents-in-law, registered domestic partner, and child of a registered domestic partner.
The bereavement leave must be taken consecutively, and the employee must attend the funeral of the deceased family member to be eligible for bereavement leave. The City reserves the right to request all pertinent information including deceased relative's name, relationship of the employee to the deceased, the name and address of the funeral home, and the date of the funeral. Documentation such as a death certificate, or other documentation on the deceased may be required for approval of the leave.
Voting Leave
Employees are encouraged to exercise their right to vote outside of their scheduled working hours. As such, all full-time employees as defined herein may be granted up to one hour of leave during polling hours in order to vote in federal, state or local elections, both primary and general elections. This time off shall be granted if it does not increase staffing cost or decrease departmental efficiency.
Employees must request time off for voting in writing or via e-mail at least five (5) business days in advance to the Department Head or designee. The request for leave must clearly state that the employee needs leave in order to vote.

Interprets and implements policies and standard operating procedures concerning the Victim Advocate Program.
Exercises independent judgment to determine the most effective course of action to achieve program outcomes.
Interprets and disseminates information on victims' rights as required by Florida Statutes.
Conducts program orientations, assessments, and treatment planning for crime victims and residents.
Provides or coordinates services based on individual assessments; conducts hospital and home visits, accompanied by a police detective when required for safety or emergencies.
Maintains comprehensive and documented assessments, ensuring services are administered appropriately.
Facilitates crisis intervention, individual, group, and family counseling.
Informs victims and residents of legal requirements and implications concerning treatment and case progress; coordinates with local, county, and community agencies.
Attends training sessions, workshops, and inter-agency conferences to strengthen service coordination; participates in staff conferences for case review and consultation.
Maintains files, records, and case documentation in accordance with regulatory policies and departmental procedures; prepares casework, medical, and legal documentation.
Secures assistance and cooperation from social service agencies and community resources to address victims' and residents' needs.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Knowledge of services and resources available to crime victims and their families. Knowledge of social work practices, court procedures, and methods for assisting individuals in crisis. Knowledge of departmental policies, procedures, regulations, organization, and workflow.
Ability to operate personal computers and standard office equipment; proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Internet resources, and public databases. Ability to research and compile information from multiple sources; compose clear correspondence, reports, and case documentation. Strong verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to provide training and public presentations. Ability to treat victims and survivors of violent crimes with dignity, fairness, compassion, and confidentiality. Ability to maintain detailed case management systems, track cases from inception to closure, and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements. Ability to analyze and prioritize information, exercise independent judgment, and adapt methods to meet program objectives. Ability to assist victims and their families in navigating the criminal justice system. Ability to safely operate a motor vehicle.
Education & Experience Requirements:Bachelor's degree from an accredited university supplemented with a minimum of three (3) years professional experience in crisis counseling services or a victim advocate; voluntary or by employment. Must possess the State of Florida, Office of the Attorney General Victim Services Practitioner Designation; OR obtain within one (1) year of hire as a condition of continued employment. Must possess and maintain throughout employment a valid Florida driver's license with a satisfactory driving history. Fluency in a second language (Spanish or Haitian Creole preferred) desirable. Must be available to work varied hours, shifts, and on-call 24/7 as required. Applicants qualifying for employment will be subject to a polygraph examination and an extensive background screening.
