POSITION SUMMARY
Performs a variety of laboratory tests on blood, tissue and body fluids using both automated and manual methods. Ensures accurate, timely reporting of lab test results in order to assist medical staff in patient care. Serves as a technical resource and performs section supervisory functions.
Education:
Required: Bachelor's Degree from an approved college or university and/or graduate of an accredited school of medical technology, or equivalent such as military training as defined by 42 CFR 493.1489, or have qualified at the Medical Technologist level by achieving a satisfactory grade on a HHS examination or equivalent prior to 2/28/92 42 CFR 493.1491. The above meets required criteria as defined by CLIA regulations for High Complexity testing (42 CFR 493.1489 and 42 CFR 493.1491).

PRIMARY ACCOUNTABILITES
1. Performs clinical laboratory testing of various complexities, in a timely and efficient
manner using various laboratory equipment, devices or via manual method. The MLS
will be assigned on the following bench: clinical chemistry, toxicology, transfusion
services, urinalysis, hemostasis, hematology, microbiology, immunology, point of care,
and or as assigned by lab leadership; performs lab analyses on body fluids such as
urine, blood, and all other body fluids.
2. Complies with all Health First, HF Laboratory policies and procedures, along with all
pertinent federal and state accreditation agency requirements.
3. Performs quality control on various laboratory tests ensuring its accuracy and
validity. Assists lab supervisor in performing validation of new tests, equipment, or
methodology.
4. Performs regular & periodic equipment maintenance on various lab analyzers. Performs
calibration and troubleshooting on testing systems and instruments to ensure adherence
to established standards of accuracy.
5. Shows commitment to meet departmental goals & to continuously improve performance
improvement metrics.
6. Ability to perform basic computer skills pertinent to job performance. Shows
competency in use various electronic medical record (EMR) applications used for patient
records & results as established by laboratory procedures.

Position Concept
The Lab Specialist is primarily responsible for assisting instructors to ensure aviation students have a safe, clean and orderly laboratory environment leading to the successful completion of class outcomes. Additional responsibilities include supporting Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) compliance of the EFSC Aviation Maintenance Technician School (AMTS) facility, equipment, tools, supplies, instructional aids, and a type certificated aircraft.
Minimum Qualifications
The following minimum qualifications for this position must be met before any applicant will be considered:

* Associate degree from a regionally accredited institution or completion of an applicable PSAV certificate (Trades) or apprenticeship program preferred.
