Job Duties -Pipetting -Sample Preparation -Media Preparation • Assist in filling and packaging of products, which may include automated instruments. • Proper and detailed labeling of products. • Work with Scientists and Technicians to perform routine laboratory tasks and maintenance. • Assist in washing, cleaning, and maintenance of reusable materials and/or instruments. • Perform periodic inventory on packaging materials and/or replacement parts. • Learn, perform proper handling of, and waste collection of Acids and Bases and other biohazards. • Contributes towards accurate production records, maintenance logs, inspections, temperature records, water systems, • Supports and complies with onsite safety program and notifies supervisor of any safety hazards. • Supports the development, maintenance, and continual improvement of the Quality Management System. • Other duties as assigned, including cross functionally across our small site.

The lab researches the biology of aging, with a focus on the effects of maternal age on offspring health and lifespan. We use rotifers as a model system for our work. Qualifications:
Applicants should possess a Ph.D. in molecular biology, cell biology, biochemistry, genetics, bioinformatics, or a related field. The Medical Laboratory Scientist II, in their role as General Supervisor as defined by CLIA, may be delegated the responsibility of the day-to-day supervision or oversight of the laboratory operations and personnel performing testing and reporting results. Under the general supervision of the Laboratory Manager and Clinical Supervisors, the Medical Laboratory Scientist II is responsible for supervision of assigned workstations including Quality Control (QC) review, training, competency assessment of staff, and inventory management. The testing personnel are responsible for specimen processing, test performance, and for reporting test results. Each individual performs only those tests that are authorized by the laboratory director and require a degree of skill commensurate with the individual's education, training or experience, and technical abilities.

As outlined by CLIA, after successful completion of orientation, training and competency assessment on all instruments/methods applicable to their role:
Follow the laboratory's procedures for specimen handling and processing, test analyses, reporting and maintaining records of patient test results.
Maintain records that demonstrate that proficiency testing samples are tested in the same manner as patient samples.
Adhere to the laboratory's quality control policies, document all quality control activities, instrument and procedural calibrations, and maintenance performed.
Follow the laboratory's established corrective action policies and procedures whenever test systems are not within the laboratory's established acceptable levels of performance.
Be capable of identifying problems that may adversely affect test performance or reporting of test results and either must correct the problems or immediately notify the general supervisor, technical consultant, technical supervisor, clinical consultant, or director.
Document all corrective actions taken when test systems deviate from the laboratory's established performance specifications.

Essential Functions (Key Roles & Responsibilities)
Testing personnel are responsible for specimen processing, test performance and for reporting test results.
1. Performs qualitative and quantitative tests and procedures using instruments and/or manual methods according to laboratory policies and procedures.
2. Operates all instruments/analyzers according to laboratory policies and procedures. Performs routine maintenance, function checks or calibrations on equipment according to policies and documents. Recognizes instrument malfunctions, documents problems as may be required, performs troubleshooting and repair according to established guidelines.
3. Performs quality control for all reagents and instruments according to policies and documents results. Takes action for all out of range QC results and documents corrective action steps if applicable.
4. Responsible for the accuracy, interpretation, and reporting of test results according to laboratory policies. Identifies aberrant patient test results and takes appropriate action; seeks assistance in resolution as needed. Documents all corrective action steps.
5. Participates in QA/QI activities as required. Participates in Proficiency Testing program including the handling and analysis of Proficiency Testing samples. Documents errors using hospital Safety Reporting System; informs supervisor/manager when safety reports are entered.
6. Plans, organizes, and prioritizes work duties to accomplish daily tasks and objectives. Supports and assists coworkers as needed to ensure the best possible patient care; able to work independently while functioning as a team member.
7. Performs other duties as required that may include inventory management, processing samples, call back of critical test results, and clerical duties.

Pre-clinical group developing next generation antibody and CAR T cell immunotherapies for cancer is looking for an exceptionally motivated individual with past in vivo experience. The Smith Lab group is focused CAR T cell immunotherapy for cancer and protein engineering/synthetic biology; taking projects from conception to transgene design /genetic engineering, through reduction to practice, and into in vivo studies, and ultimately to the clinic. >10 clinical trials have launched stemming from the Smith team's pre-clinical work. The candidate will make substantial contributions to the leadership of our in vivo work among other contributions. This will include coordinating and advising other senior staff in the lab in terms of design and timelines for in vivo experimentation, planning, execution, and data analysis. The candidate is expected to partner with others in the lab to lead many of the ongoing and future in vivo efforts including hands on tail vein injections and other procedures, as well as liaisoning/coordinating with the DFCI Animal Research Facility and technicians to ensure efficient, robust, accurate, ethical, and thoughtful in vivo work of the group.
We expect a strong background in some of the laboratory methods required to perform this primary in vivo responsibilities, leadership responsibilities, and additional cell culture lab bench work. We provide training to expand the scientist's took box in terms of CAR T cell and cancer immunotherapy workflows. Additional opportunities for growth are attending lectures and journal clubs held here at DFCI and participating in academic and industry collaborations. The work is highly translational and there is a clear path to moving to the clinic candidates based on this work. A Day in the Life:
Support Managed Services operations by coordinating staff and workloads to meet productivity goals. Provide site coverage, assist in training new and current team members, and lead internal/client meetings.
Coordinate lab equipment repair, maintenance, and calibration, including database management and vendor coordination. Proactively address equipment issues and handle asset tagging and tracking per client protocols.
Collaborate closely with onsite teams and other departments (Facilities, EHS, Supply Chain, etc.) to prioritize and resolve maintenance needs, plan lab infrastructure projects, and lead preventive maintenance and contamination control.
Ensure professional relationships with internal teams, external vendors, and building occupants. Escort service vendors and provide necessary site-specific training.

Education:
High school diploma or equivalent required.

Experience:
Preferred; Minimum of 2 years of work experience in a manufacturing, operations, production, or lab setting or related field preferred

Summary
The Medical Laboratory Scientist II, in their role as Testing Personnel as defined by CLIA, may perform waived and non-waived testing. Under general supervision, carries out all policies and performs all tests in accordance with the department's standard operating procedures. Works independently in an efficient and organized manner to assure accurate results and records. The work requires a professional level of knowledge to read and interpret accurately test results used by providers in the diagnosis and treatment of diseases.
The Medical Laboratory Scientist II, in their role as General Supervisor as defined by CLIA, may be delegated the responsibility of the day-to-day supervision or oversight of the laboratory operations and personnel performing testing and reporting results. Under the general supervision of the Laboratory Manager and Clinical Supervisors, the Medical Laboratory Scientist II is responsible for supervision of assigned workstations including Quality Control (QC) review, training, competency assessment of staff, and inventory management. The testing personnel are responsible for specimen processing, test performance, and for reporting test results. Each individual performs only those tests that are authorized by the laboratory director and require a degree of skill commensurate with the individual's education, training or experience, and technical abilities.

As outlined by CLIA, after successful completion of orientation, training and competency assessment on all instruments/methods applicable to their role:
Follow the laboratory's procedures for specimen handling and processing, test analyses, reporting and maintaining records of patient test results.
Maintain records that demonstrate that proficiency testing samples are tested in the same manner as patient samples.
Adhere to the laboratory's quality control policies, document all quality control activities, instrument and procedural calibrations, and maintenance performed.
Follow the laboratory's established corrective action policies and procedures whenever test systems are not within the laboratory's established acceptable levels of performance.
Be capable of identifying problems that may adversely affect test performance or reporting of test results and either must correct the problems or immediately notify the general supervisor, technical consultant, technical supervisor, clinical consultant, or director.
Document all corrective actions taken when test systems deviate from the laboratory's established performance specifications.
