Primary Responsibilities Include:
Design safe operating facilities for new and existing customers according to Xcel Energy construction standards and interpret administrative instructions for consistent and cost-effective designs. Provide distribution design project management for most areas of design, limited only to the most complex. Responsible for the generation of additional company revenue through contacts with new business or existing customers.
Manage projects from initial customer contact through post project analysis. Establish and manage the construction work plan to meet the customers' schedule and design requirements as well as financial and budgetary requirements.
Obtain permits and easements for facilities in accordance with city ordinances, state, federal, and county agencies. Execute contracts and agreements in compliance with administrative instructions and regulatory requirements.
Represent the Company with government officials, contractors, city agencies, vendors, architects, and engineers to provide services to customers.
Job Requirements:
High School Diploma or GED. Min. of Assoc. Degree in one of the following fields of study: drafting, design, automation, electronics, mechatronics, engineering, GIS, other related fields of study. In lieu of an Assoc. Degree: a combination of education and experience in design/drafting, construction, project management, or electronics providing equivalent experience and knowledge. Minimum 2 years' experience as a Designer I or equivalent experience.
Proficient in one or more of the following: GIS, design software, work management programs, and related systems or related systems required. Knowledge of construction standards, materials, and technical codes.
Proficient in Windows operating system and Microsoft Office applications (Outlook, Excel, Word, Access, etc.).
Self-starter, able to work with minimal supervision. A Driver's License may be required.

A Brief Summary of This Position:
This is an individual contributor position in the Lighting and Transportation division. The incumbent reads and interprets customer order information. This position processes drafting requests for production and customer submittal drawings, consistent with Valmont standard practices, in the moderate range of complexity, and prepares the necessary drawings and other data for the teams, other departments and the manufacturing facilities, as well as interfaces, with direction from the site Engineering Manager, directly with other company departments on customer order and manufacturing problems. Customer contact may be required to aid the design/order process.
The Drafting Department is responsible for processing drawings for customers and the manufacturing facilities while maintaining the company objectives for quality and lead-time. This Individual Contributor role must interact with people in all departments in order to maintain amiable and profitable relationships in inter-departmental communication.
The incumbent will, with required supervision, read and interpret customer specifications, plans, and other order information to determine the format required to complete customer orders. He/she will be responsible for reporting any inconsistent, conflicting, or missing customer information to the reviewing Engineer.
This position is important to the results of the department and the division. He/she may identify, recommend, and help develop revisions to standard product designs, drafting procedures, and systems to improve the department and the division.
Essential Functions:
* This position reports to the site Engineering Manager and has no direct or indirect reports
* This role requires limited to no travel
* Analyze all information necessary to complete drawings for an individual order accurately and efficiently
* Support the department backlog by monitoring individual drafting order schedules, providing updates to the computerized backlog, and meeting "Promises Kept" in accordance with departmental priorities
* Maintain required drafting productivity output in accordance with departmental priorities
* Maintain required drawing accuracy in accordance with departmental priorities
* Maintain a cooperative and professional attitude in dealing with all departments of the company
* Maintain and update an accurate filing system of customer requirements
* Maintain an awareness of current Drafting policies and procedures
* Maintain an awareness of current manufacturing capabilities and limitations
* Handle special assignments as requested by the Engineering Manager.
* Provide technical or drafting support to any department, for any project that will enhance product or company interest
* Maintain appropriate professional competencies, certifications, licenses, etc., necessary to perform job duties
* Develop tapering profiles for production equipment using established software tools
* Develop 3D models of parts to be used for programming of CNC equipment
Required Qualifications of Every Candidate:
* High School diploma and 2+ years of work/educational experience in drafting
* Technical skills in computer-aided drafting and a basic understanding of mathematics are normally acquired through an Associate of Applied Science degree and/or related experience (includes Algebra, Geometry, and Trigonometry)
* A solid background in using AutoCAD
* Previous PC experience a must, including intermediate level knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and Outlook) and Autodesk (AutoCAD and Inventor)
* Demonstrated ability to read and interpret customer specifications, plans, and other order information to determine the format required to complete customer orders
* Ability to identify any inconsistent, conflicting or missing customer information and determine the correct course of action to resolve the issues with some assistance from the Engineering team
