Responsibilities:

Must know how to use amp probe, digital volt meter, oscilloscope and other test equipment.
Diagnose PLC (SLC500, PLC5, NUMA LOGIC, ControlLogix 5000, CompactLogix) and relay logic electrical problems.
Working knowledge of Allen Bradley, Icom software programs, hydraulic and pneumatic systems desirable.
Familiar with AutoCad and capable of drawing schematics.
Standard control system wiring practices and control sensing devices such as proximity sensors, photo eyes, etc.

JOB SUMMARY
As an Automation Engineer at CPP, you will be responsible for designing, programming, maintaining, and troubleshooting PLC control systems in an aerospace investment casting manufacturing environment. A strong background in ladder logic programming is required, and experience with robotics (specifically Fanuc and Kawasaki) and ignition programming is highly beneficial but not mandatory. The ideal candidate will contribute to the efficient operation, optimization, and continuous improvement of automated manufacturing systems. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to enhance process efficiency, improve quality, and reduce costs, ensuring that CPP continues to meet the demanding standards of the aerospace market.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
Design, develop, implement, and maintain automation systems to improve efficiency and consistency in the investment casting process.
Program, configure, troubleshoot, and improve robotic systems, PLCs, and other automated equipment to ensure efficient and reliable operations.
Diagnose and resolve issues related to PLC-controlled systems, sensors, motors, actuators, and other automated machinery.
Identify and implement improvements to automation systems to enhance efficiency, reduce downtime, and optimize production processes. Work closely with production teams to implement upgrades and process enhancements.
Collaborate with engineering, production, and maintenance teams to ensure seamless integration of automated systems.
Develop and maintain documentation, including system designs, programming files, and operating procedures.
Provide training and technical support to maintenance teams and operators on PLC programming, control system troubleshooting, and automation systems as needed.
Stay current with advancements in automation technologies and apply innovative solutions to CPP processes.
Support root cause analysis and continuous improvement initiatives to resolve production challenges.
Provides manufacturing engineering information by answering questions and requests.
Completes design and development projects by training and guiding technicians.
Responsible for adherence to all safety policies, practices and procedures.
Robotics Support (Beneficial not required): Assist with the programming, integration, and troubleshooting of robotic systems (Fanuc and Kawasaki). Ensure seamless interaction between robots and PLC-controlled systems to optimize production.
Ignition Programming (Beneficial not required): Support the development and troubleshooting of ignition systems used in casting operations. Provide programming expertise to maintain ignition systems.
Ability to work flexible hours as needed.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education: Bachelor's degree in Automation Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
Experience: 3+ years of experience in automation engineering, preferably in investment casting or a similar manufacturing environment
PLC Programming: Strong experience in PLC programming with an emphasis on ladder logic. Hands-on experience with Allen-Bradley or similar PLC platforms is required.
Automation Systems Experience: Solid experience with automation systems, including sensors, actuators, motors, drives, and other equipment used in systems. Experience with SCADA systems and HMI programming.
Problem-Solving Skills: Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills with the ability to diagnose and resolve complex issues in automation systems, PLCs, and robotics.
Communication Skills: Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams and provide training to operators and maintenance personnel.
Safety Focus: Knowledge of safety regulations and best practices in manufacturing environments, especially related to electrical systems and automation.
Robotics Experience (Beneficial not required): Hands-on experience with Fanuc and Kawasaki robotic systems for integration, programming, and troubleshooting is highly beneficial.
Ignition Programming (Beneficial not required): Knowledge or experience with ignition systems, programming, and troubleshooting within aerospace or manufacturing environments is a plus.
WORKING ENVIRONMENT
Working Environment: Shop floor, office.
Physical Demands: Sitting or standing long periods of time, may be required to lift Metal castings up to 50 lbs; extended periods of time using a computer screen.
Required PPE: PPE varies throughout the plant, check with area Supervisor to ensure proper PPE is being used.
Travel Requirements: May be required to travel to other sites, as needed.
Safety Glasses: Needed in all areas of the plant.
Steel toe shoes: Needed in all areas of the plant.
