Key Responsibilities

Lake Superior Consulting is currently seeking to fill a key position as an Electrical Engineer IV at our home office in Duluth, MN, or one of our offices in Omaha, NE, Houston, TX, or Pittsburgh, PA.
This position is responsible for executing the electrical engineering portion of multi-disciplinary projects in the industrial energy sector. Duties include coordinating with multi-discipline design teams and managing workflow through all stages of design including drawing development and construction document phases to complete the projects on schedule. The Electrical Engineer will be responsible for the successful delivery of each project through management of internal staff, external contractors, financial control, and management of change.
Responsibilities:
Lead moderate to large sized projects and make decisions and recommendations on technical or complex issues
Exercise considerable judgment and initiative in interpreting policy in the planning and implementation of major work assignments
Work with the project team to create all design documents and drawings, including Power and Controls drawings and associated documentation.
Specification development for the procurement, installation and testing of electrical equipment.
Significant design and design review responsibilities, engineering calculations, studies, detailed design, report writing, field investigations and direction of lower level engineers and/or designers
Apply engineering application software to complete engineering tasks such as site modeling and analysis
Communicate and coordinate project activities with project management, customer representatives, and other stakeholders.
Manages changes in project scope, identifies potential risks, and works with supervisors to develop contingency plans.
Frequently interact with clients, vendors and contractors
Requirements:
BS in Electrical Engineering discipline.
5+ years of related experience.
PE license preferred
Industrial electrical control system and/or power system design experience strongly desired
Experience in the design of complex control systems, PLC design, SCADA, instrumentation, control cabinet layouts, control narratives, cause & effect, and network architectures are desired
Experience in design of complex high, medium, and low voltage power systems, electrical equipment upgrades, arc flash hazards analysis, switchgear, motor control centers, drives, service entrance, emergency power and power distribution equipment is desired
Direct experience related to industrial facilities
Experience in use of CadWorx Electrical and AutoDesk programs is desired
Knowledge in the application of the National Electrical Code, NFPA 70E, API, and AGA recommended practices
Knowledge and understanding of electrical area classification (hazardous areas)
Field experience supporting projects that are in construction a plus
Broad electrical background, including experience in control systems and/or motor control centers is a plus

Lake Superior Consulting offers a competitive compensation package. The actual starting salary will be determined based on a variety of factors, including your skills, experience, and office/market location. The anticipated salary/hourly range for this position is $95,000-$132,800 per year.

RESPONSIBILITIES

PROFESSIONAL REQUIREMENTS
Specialized Experience: Experience with DC Power. Traction/Overhead Catenary/Third Rail power systems and/or movable bridge electrical systems is highly desirable.
Expertise in Airfield Lighting: Leverage experience in aviation lighting, including power distribution, NAVAIDS, AV lighting systems, vaults, airfield signage, PAPI's, REILS, BAK's, approach lighting systems, etc.
Technical Leadership: Lead and oversee development of design documentation, calculations, and construction drawings as the technical professional on the project design team. Direct, manage, and review the work of Junior and Staff Electrical Engineers and Designers to ensure high-quality design completion.
Engineering Calculations: Perform and check engineering calculations such as lighting calculations, airfield lighting (PAPI, aiming point, approach lighting), heat dissipation, and voltage drop calculations.
Design Documentation: Lead development and review airfield layout drawings (lighting, signs, marking, ducts, pits, and cabling), installation detail drawings tailored to specific project requirements, electrical wiring schematics, quantities, specifications, cost, and hour estimates.
Project Coordination: Initiate and lead coordination efforts with other disciplines, owners, firms, and technical staff to ensure accuracy and technical proficiency of project submissions.
Quality Assurance: Implement and adhere to QA/QC procedures on all deliverables to maintain our standards.
Team Collaboration: Work effectively within established budgets and schedules while efficiently collaborating with a remote team.
Compliance Evaluation: Evaluate electrical components to ensure they meet all federal, state, and local codes and specifications.
Staff Development: Mentor and train junior staff to foster professional growth.
Software Proficiency: Desirable but not required to demonstrate working knowledge of drafting software such as MicroStation, AutoCAD, and Revit.

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS
Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering
Licensed Professional Engineer
Minimum of 10 years of related experience
Experience with engineering software (SKM; Visual Lighting; AGI32; software isn't required but desirable)
Effective visual/verbal communication skills are essential
Candidate should possess a proficient understanding of inter-relationships among design/engineering disciplines, clients, and constructors
COMPENSATION
The approximate compensation range for this position is $104,977 to $181,854. This compensation range is a good faith estimate for the position at the time of posting. Actual compensation is dependent upon factors such as education, qualifications, experience, skillset, and physical work location.
